What was your reaction to Shining Armor?

I'm still unsure what to think. Like others said, they kind of threw him in at the last minute but hopefully they can make this work well.

I liked him, but I just couldn't get the image of Anakin (Clone Wars version) and Matt Lanter out of my head.

 

Something about the voice, or hair, or something.

First I was like "Hey, this dude looks pretty cool."

 

Then I heard his voice and I was like "Oh, it's this guy."

 

I do believe his voice actor has played other characters in other shows, most notably (to my knowledge), Gil from Johnny Test.

I didn't really care for him, though I was like "Twi has a brother!?" it was kind of annoying for him to just pop up.. but what do you expect from a little kid show?

Honestly, my first thought was somewhat the same TheLivingTombstone himself had. "(GASP) PLOT DEVICE!" XD. This was probably an attempt at making such plot device out of the freaking blue. In my opinion, it worked, given how most of us were left with our mouths open, and most of us seem to like him (although I can't speak for everyone, obviously).

 

Shining Armor...seriously? But then I thought, "Hey, almost every character on the name has a pun integrated...given that he is able to invoke the most powerful shield (AKA, the armor), knight in shining armor or not, was pretty corresponding to his name". Shining, he's white and a captain of the Royal Guard. Armor, he is the protector of the Canterlot and the Princesses. It makes total sense, pun or not (besides, could your really think up of a better name for him with his facts? I can't, to be honest). And in the end, he wasn't the knight in shining armor. No, that title corresponded to Cadance. And when you think about it, it's totally hilarious XD. After all, he wasn't the savior one might think he would become given his title and his name, rather, HE was the one that needed saving. And that's awesome when you think about it. Doesn't follow the absolute "Traditional" invincible shining knight in armor trend, you know?

 

Also, he was a nice character. He WAS pretty pissed like any soon-to-be-groom when they get their wedding rehearsal interrupted by your apparent insane little sister when she accuses your soon-to-be-wife she is evil. And the fact that he becomes totally drift apart with Twilight because of the job, seems something that many people in real life have to do (as the very own military bronies said in FOB Equestria, it's what every soldier has to do, and fears that may happen). If you were to ask me with all that knowledge in hand, I'd say they hit it off good with dear Shining. But really is a matter of opinion more than anything else with a character like him.

I thought he was ok, even though he had less character development than Big Macintosh. He seems like the kinda guy you barely know who's wedding you'd go to just to check up on him, which is basically exactly what happened if you take all the violence, singing, and changelings out of it(which were the best reasons to stay for the occasion, not SA ).

i like him because he is able to figure out what is going on around him immediately. i mean, as soon as cadence took queen chrysalis' spell off of him, he immediately knew that he had almost married a fake and that he needed to destroy her. i mean, WHAT THE FUCK!?

Like others here, I do think he was introduced a little too quickly, but that didn't really bother me. I actually kind of like him! His voice is awesome, his design is cool, and he's not totally perfect either (he scolds Twilight for her accusations about Cadence for one thing).

 

Although, speaking of his voice...I don't think I can ever look at Shining Armor (or Braeburn) the same way ever again, especially since I found out that years ago his voice actor did the voice of a CERTAIN psychotic, mentally unstable pyromaniac as pictured here:

It seemed like they tried too hard to make him a likeable character because he was rushed into the show, making me kind of dislike him :/.
