I've finally done it! (IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT)

I finally landed a job! WHOO!

Don't know when my start date is and it's technically a three month internship but I'm going to be a test case developer. (It's a programming thing) I don't know all the details yet but I was at lunch with a friend from my mom's church, someone who introduced me to the programming stuff in the first place and has offered to help me find a job when I was ready, and he said they needed someone to do some menial work.

He's basically giving me the position, no interview bullshit, and he even said that afterward they would likely try to help me find placement if in the end they don't need me to stay at that particular location. This on top of moving soon to get rid of the cockroaches things are starting to look up.

The catch is: I'm not done with the programming stuff, I've been somewhat lazy about it lately, but now with this new revelation I am pumped and ready to get it done. If I can just finish the course for Python in Codecademy and then do the courses in Learn Python The Hard Way I should be good to start. It's an internship so I'm being paid to learn more about the kind of career I'll be going into and it'll help me get experience since all I have is really basic knowledge of Python and no experience in how it's actually used.

I don't know the name of the company, I don't know how much I'll be paid either and I have to commute via train to Seattle (which I live like 30 miles from). Normally this would sound REALLY sketchy however I absolutely trust this person and I'll be getting the details when I get the offer letter. No need for warnings on how sketchy it sounds, I'm aware of it but I definitely do trust this person and would never expect him to lead me down an alleyway to get my ass shanked.

This is a fantastic opportunity, I can't wait to start. <3

Just found out the name of the company, it's called Loopfuse. I get the offer letter tonight at church.

it DOES sound kinda weird that you have to get to this place to get that job and find out how much money it'll give you and blablabla, but whatever. all the best for you in your new job. just take care, though. the last time i ended up trusting a guy i met outside i lost my wallet. so don't have anything too valuable on you when you meet him, just in case. safety pre-cautions and whatnot.

Oh I know the guy already, I had lunch with him just yesterday in fact. It's not that I trust him but have never met him, I have and I know it won't end badly. Plus I know the name of the company now.

It's comforting to see people with programming backgrounds finding work. I've never worked with Python before but I have a few friends who have and they say it's one of their favorite programming languages. I'll just stick to C++ and Visual Basic.

I want to learn C++ and possibly Visual Basic eventually but I've only just started programming so what I'm doing now is a good start methinks.

I know basic Javascript and HTML+CSS now on top of learning Python (need to get these courses done before I start) and I plan to learn as many as I can until I know which ones to delve deep into. Python I know is heavily used along with Javascript and HTML so I started with those.

Congrats on everything so far! Keep up the hard working getting spun up with Python, but don't stress out over having to lay down tracks ahead of the moving train. Most software developers find that for each job or project, they can expect to learn something new in a big way: maybe a new language, a new operating system or a new development method (like Scrum). Again, congratulations on making that leap into a job that will utilize your creative and technical skills.

You'll be fine, Java and HTML set up a good foundation for other programming languages. I don't know how much it will prepare you for Python, but it's better than going into the field blindfolded.

I actually have found that there's a lot in common between Javascript (note for those who don't know: Not to be confused with Java which is a totally different programming language) and Python, at least in the basics. The only hard part I've run into so far was the thing I'm learning Python from has me using Windows Powershell and activating Python via the Powershell was a job and a half but I got it working finally.

I'm told I should move to Linux if I wanna get far in the field though as most serious programmers use it over Windows.
