Den felt her wake up and set her down, "I'm, uhh, I'm sorry Cherry. I... Didn't really start the partner relationship well... I'm gunna go up stairs and try to help Nightfall now. I know he'd never ask anypony who didn't want to come to do something like this, so, uh, if you follow the signs to the exit, you should be able to wait outside, or something. Otherwise, you know, we'll be upstairs." He jogged up the steps.

 

Maven rolled her eyes; Mr. Selfconfident had decided to charge in again. She began to play a battle-song for Nightfall.

"No it's my fault anyway, but I'm coming this time. I-I have no more excuses..." Cherry Blossom replied as she tried to get up back on her hooves. The pain was unbearable, but she tried her best to fight against it. Though it was to much for her and she collapsed back on the ground.

Den herd this and came back downstairs. "Where does it hurt?" He asks, concerned. Did I accidentally break something? How stupid can I get man this is a lot of stupid in one day. I mean, seriously; a demon threatens your family, you get a partner and hurt her, there's a demon portal upstairs... He sighs.

"It hurts a lot in this area of the wing," Implied Cherry Blossom as she pointed to the wing socket. "It's starting to hurt a lot, but I have on question that I really want to ask you. Why didi you choose this job to join the Police force?" She asked Den as she tried to get herself comfortable from the pain.

He began to feel her wing area, "This is going to hurt, but I have to feel through youyr bruises to see if I accidently broke something earlier." Then he answered her question, while feeling her wing, "When I was a foal, my mother was murdered. She was bringing home some food for my then family of six and a felon decided to mug her. He got 5 years, minimum penalty. He played the sympathy card," he began, his voice as cold as flint, "A few years later, one of my brothers caught a bug. The doctors tryed their hardest, but they couldn't get rid of it. The bug passed on to my father, and he later died. So I decided to take care of my two brothers. My older brother, he couldn't handle it. He moved away, and the last I heard of him, he was geting smashed at a bar in Applelousa. My younger brother works a stable job at a factory. We still live together. I guess it was just my protective nature," he finished. "Nothing broken, but those bruises extend to your shoulder. You can lean on me if you'd like. I got something I need to tell you before the fighting starts anyway."

"Oh my goodness, but you're life was so horrid like that? I'm so sorry Den, I'm just so sorry." Cherry Blossom replied as she started tearing up on such a sad life. She leaned on the stallion; she had preferred it better than the cold floor of the asylum. She then turned back to his face and replied again, "Sure Den, I'd be more than happy to answer any of your questions."

He smiled faintly, "It wasn't so bad. We learned to live on. I do have a few questions, but this isn't one of them. I'm not always... me. I know that sounds crazy, but a while back, in service to the police force, Nightfall got injured. This was like, my second day. I came to visit him in the hospital and an evil doctor came in. He had 3 small foals attached to some... backpack-like mind control device. He ordered them to kill me and take Nightfall in for testing. I was forced... to do some things I'm still trying to get over. The backpacks were attached to major blood vessles in their backs. They managed to- to disobey orders and immobilize themselves; they told me to kill them. So I smashed their backpacks. Two of them died instantly; the third is in a hospital. It drove me insane, and some... magic created a different me. So if you here a female voice, see a femal version of me, and I have a different cutie mark... you know the story. Her name is Sapphire."

"Well I've been experiencing something similar to that, but physical changes don't happen to me just as you." Cherry Blossom replied, but she had said it in a not so shy tone. "Oh Sour Blossom, you're really the only friend I ever had forever," She thought to herself.

"Mmm... So what should I look for then?" he asked, slowly leading her up the stairs. Way to go, Den. You're story just keeps getting better and better. Why don't you tell her something else? How about the time you got into a fistfight over your mother when a foal had disrespected her name? You beat him sensless... Den, stop this. It's self distructive and not helping you. Brownies are in the saddle bag's left side. I won't stop pestering you untill you eat one. He sighed and took a brownie out, carefully, and ate it.

Butajiri jumped into the air and hovered with his wings. He held his sword to where the gruesome fleshy head carving faced Nightfall and Wits. "Chorus of Ten Thousand Skulls!" The name was misleading, just as many spectral skulls were summoned as the last time he had used the chorus of a thousand skulls. However, they were each ten times their normal size. They spread out and attacked Maven, Nightfall, and Wits.

Maven switched songs to the demon slayer song. The skulls fractured, and the skulls closest to Maven shattered. She grimaced; it took more energy than before. She began to chase the skulls around with the song, wishing she had real magic and not some scientist's experimental variety.

"Well I think I remember one physical change, but I think I may have gotten her personality in a long period of loneliness . My eyes would turn red and I would call myself 'Sour Blossom'." "Really? My second is very cheery, very friendly, and very insane. She also lacks a lot of comon sense. So, I told you my big secret, you got one?" They reached a landing and he let her rest for a bit; it had to be painful to move at this point. Maybe... I wonder why she isn't scared of me?

Butajiri swung the Banshee Shriek in circles, creating the horrible sound of the Call Of The Reaper. It seemed to strengthen the skulls and make them presue their targets faster. "Good luck staying alive!" Butajiri boasted, "You're fighting a B class now!"

 

A green claw stuck itself out of the portal and grabbed at the air.

Maven sighed; she hadn't wanted to do this. She set down the hulking cello case and, shile playing her flute to repell the skulls a little bit, switched to her cello. This made her song more powerful, as she was switching to her favorite instrument, and had the most experince with it. Now the skulls nearest to her began to show fracture marks. The longer they stayed near her, the bigger the fracture, and one tried to bite her cello. It imploded.

He again chased down Butajiri, using his wings as boosters. A couple of good strikes was all he needed. Maybe he could even knock his sword out of his hooves. Maybe he could wield it, since he had a demon in him. If he could get close enough.

(It was a theory he was thinking about... Also, I don't really wanna die... it's just the way I'm setting this up...)

 

Pain. The only thing Nightfall thought he had felt in this world, and would if he would survive this (which he thought he didn't.) He had lost his parents, and been sliced up by swords and shot with guns. He had fallen to the ground and been chomped upon by skulls.

He looked up from the floor. His belly had a slice on it, and it looked a bit deep. The skulls were surrounding him. He looked at his friends.

"And I have failed..."

Maven saw Nightfall go down and something snapped. (This... think of it like an MP bomb in the form of her song...) Her eyes glowed green and the song exploded from her strings. The skulls around Nightfall, and the rest of the skulls in the room blew up into powder. She relocated and played a healing song next to Nightfall.

"So don't you have a question to ask me or something? I mean if you wouldn't mind tell me that is." Cherry Blossom was fluttering with butterflies on the inside. She had never had this many conversations in just one day. She was just happy that she wasn't being teased at, just like when she was a filly in Cloudsdale.

"Uhh, yah. Why do you wanna be a cop?" he picks her up again, "And slowly. We don't want to do damadge to your shoulder. One step at a time." Can I meet her? Please please pleeeease? Not yet Sapphire! Celestia, you're impatiant. Don't you think she has enough to deal with right now? Okaaaaaay, Mr. Grumpy Pants! Fine!

Butajiri seemed to be unphased by his attack being stopped. "Your songs are begining to bore me. But dont worry. The game isnt over yet!" He screamed. He struck the Banshee Shriek on the ground. "Cage Of Hell!" He and Maven were suddenly surrounded by a huge cage that had the same faces as the skulls. They were separated from Nightfall and Wits. "Maybe I did forget to mention that I can also turn the souls of the damned into the shape of an unbreakable wall. It's going to be a hell of a cage fight... TO THE DEATH!" He charged at her with a furry of blows.

"It's just that... Well I've been scared my whole life and I want to put an end to it. I also want to protect everypony." Cherry Blossom replied as she kept thinking about this career. It seemed that she had nothing better to do with her life anyway, but surely she would try her hardest.

Her eyes opened wide, "My song was only half finished!" she exclaimed. She switched songs to a tune about a a knight who protected his family and a green sheild apeered around her. It shocked Bukajiri when he touched it. Her eyes were still glowing green.

 

Den nodded, "Good reasons, but those could just as easily be aplied to nursing, or firefighting. Not that I'm complaining. Here we are," he says when they get to the top. "That door leads to the cafeteria. Last chance to wait outside. I can pick you up when we get done."

"Well if you intervene the cause, then nopony would end up in a hospital." Cherry Blossom said to him as she continued to follow. "I might as well follow you, since we're partners now." she added as she kept moving alongside him. "I've actually never been this happy before talking to other ponies."
