Wits shrugged. "We've got a hyperfast gunskilled vigilante and my partner who is a shapeshifting self-multiplying wolfpony. Nopony really knows that we are gone, we'll be back before tomorrow. What's the worst the could happen?"

 

Out of nowhere, 26 ponies coalesced in front of the police station. Each was dressed in a functional formidable fit suit. At their head was a pony with a vicious orange color and glaring red mane. His expression was utter determination, and he pulled out a knife and threw it. It pierced the door of station ever so lightly when it began beeping. The other members looked mildly puzzled, until the knife exploded and blew the door off the hinges.

With a deathly look of glee, the ponies pulled out guns and started firing on the wolves surrounding the station, beginning the grisly work to come.

Wits followed behind Nightfall, prepping his gun and discussing tactics.

 

"I think this guys aura is going to be too difficult to manipulate in combat. I think I should take a support role, healing, defending, helping where I can and countering his spells while you guys take a more active combat role. I don't know how the tar works perfectly yet. If something should change, I might have to go more active. But above all, we keep Patches and Cherry Blossom safe. They are civilians, prior experience and skill notwithstanding."

"Quite agreed, Wits. And Sapphire, please... If you are worried about the station, like Wits said, Speedy and Magneus are back there. They'll be fine."

"... I hope. I have a bad feeling about leaving the station..."

 

Speedy heard the noise, and got out to the main entrance quickly. Seeing the potential massacre beginning, she herself opened fire with her massive gun, moving from side to side as to both become a potential target so the wolves could regroup and attack and as to not get hit.

"Is there a problem?" Jack asked Nightfall. "You said it yourself, the station will be fine. We're the ones who are in danger now. If you're going to worry about something worry about the task at hand and keep your mind out of other things."

The ponies scattered at the gunfire, making it impossible to focus the guns on anyone for more than a couple of seconds, degrouping and regrouping in an expert fashion. One got hit and went down, but another quickly pulled him out of the fray. Of them all, though, Sunburn was the best, swooping in and out, taking scarily good shots at Speedy whenever her guard was too down and fending off wolves with expert knifework. The group slowly made its way forward, thwarting any attempt to stop their advance.

"Is there a problem?" Jack asked Nightfall. "You said it yourself, the station will be fine. We're the ones who are in danger now. If you're going to worry about something worry about the task at hand and keep your mind out of other things."

 

(Going to the station. For future reference, italics state my characters' thoughts.)

 

"I know, I know. Everything there will be fine. And I'm sure we'll be fine. We have a metamagic studying detective, a pony who knows a lot about some enemies, a kid who is willing to help, his adopted mother who is ready to fight, a mare who can turn into a sword, a colt who will take hits for anypony, and a mare who's songs work wonders."

 

(I haven't forgotten about you taking the hit for me, Den. )

Speedy almost got hit at least once. She herself tried holding her ground. She knew she couldn't let these ponies into the station, or she would be fired or taken hostage or something horrible... She grabbed a nearby knife while was off to one side hiding from the gunfire. She took it and threw it at one pony as she shot at another.

(Okay, since we've been walking to the mine. It's fair to say that we got there by now.)

 

Karasu, who was still waiting outside of the mine, saw the eight approach. He was able to sense them before they were close enough for his eyes to pick up.

 

"You're wrong!" he shouted, "You're on the wrong side, and you know it!"

"Excuse me!" Wits called in a logical and calm manner. "You claim to correct injuries that you saw by creating more injuries! This is an entire rational decision, and I would suggest you surrender now before we have to kick your flank!" He charged a bullet, aimed his rifle, and trained it on Karasu.

"You don't know anything!" Karasu shouted, "You think that what I saw was an injury? Injuries are unnatural. Injuries can be fixed! But we can't! That's what we saw that day. It wasn't a freak accident or random act of evil! It was the very thing that is in our nature, tugging at our souls for a chance to be free! You and I are no better than those monsters! The only difference is that you hide it! But nothing can be hidden forever! We have all done unforgivable things. Torture. Murder. Lynching. And we do it because it's what we were made to do! We created a word for our natural reaction to a group of ponies whose don't agree with, and we called it war! And your police force and the Royal guard were all made to cover the truth, lock up the ones who show their true nature. That isn't a solution! There is only one way to cure a failed race: Extinction! We are the bringers of the very relief this planet needs. We will end murder and violence and the seven! This is your choice: Try to stop us and fail or help us and feel salvation!"

and black. When he looked back up, he had dark blue eyes. He looked exactly like Nightfall. "Well," He said, "Your body feels stronger than it looks."

Karasu looked down to the ground. His coat changed from grey to navy blue. Wings sprouted from his back. His mane became short

and black. When he looked back up, he had dark blue eyes. He looked exactly like Nightfall. "Well," He said, "Your body feels stronger than it looks."

 

"Jack wasn't kidding... This guy is good!"

"Quit with the games, and stand with your hooves up! No spells either!"

Nightfall pulled out a pair of hoof cuffs he always kept in his saddlebag. However, he was pretty sure K would not cooperate in some way, resulting in a massive bloody battle.

"You think that appearance is the only thing I can copy?" Karasu asked rhetorically. "I can copy everything! Your energy, your strength, your memories. I could copy your personality if I wanted to! But that isn't even the best part!" He widened his stance and fired a blast of energy directly into the sky, but he was using stolen energy from Nightfall! "What's yours is mine... and what's mine is mine."

[Nightfall 3,950]

"You think that appearance is the only thing I can copy?" Karasu asked rhetorically. "I can copy everything! Your energy, your strength, your memories. I could copy your personality if I wanted to! But that isn't even the best part!" He widened his stance and fired a blast of energy directly into the sky, but he was using stolen energy from Nightfall! "What's yours is mine... and what's mine is mine."

 

Nightfall's right leg collapsed. He caught himself on his knee fast enough, but his energy levels had dropped quite a bit.

"No, he's too good. And he's singled me out. At least me whole team here can work together if I- No, he wouldn't like me deciding to give up. I can't..."

"Good move. But you're an idiot for trying it."

"Is that so?" Karasu said confidently. "What do you have that I don't have? How could you possibly win?" He was just as tired as Nightfall, but twice as confident. "As soon as I've drained you, I'll just move to the next of your friends. Remember that you brought this upon yourselves with your constant need to possess that which others have! Envy, that is our sin!"

"Nightfall, stand back," Wits said. "If we're fighting you, you aren't the best pony for the task." He glanced around at the companions. "Let me take this one. One on one."

 

He cast a quick spell, and a magic circle went around him, protecting him and empowering him, giving his spells a sense of stability they couldn't have had without it.

 

"Come at me, filly."

"I don't need to conserve energy because it isn't mine! You'll tire out before I do!" Karasu yelled with zeal. He was ready to end this quickly. Widening his stance, he fired a bright blue, overcharged beam at Wits with his stolen energy from Nightfall. "EAT MY ENERGY!"

Wits did not shout back. Such mindless yelling would be a waste of concentration. Instead, he simply diverted the flow, making swirl around the magic circle and then draining it into himself.

 

He stood firm once more, not a single change in his stance.

"I'm waiting." Was his response.

[Nightfall 3,950]

"Is that so?" Karasu said confidently. "What do you have that I don't have? How could you possibly win?" He was just as tired as Nightfall, but twice as confident. "As soon as I've drained you, I'll just move to the next of your friends. Remember that you brought this upon yourselves with your constant need to possess that which others have! Envy, that is our sin!"

 

"Nightfall, stand back," Wits said. "If we're fighting you, you aren't the best pony for the task." He glanced around at the companions. "Let me take this one. One on one."

"And if you don't hurry up, I'll take things into my own hooves. You best watch it, K. I swear to Celestia, you'll be dead if anything happens to anypony here."

Den sighed, and stepped in front of Nightfall, "So, let me get this straight, you ENVY Nightfall? The pony who goes around the office as if he never has enough coffee? Sure he has admirable characteristics, but I think this is silly. Sir, permission to test a hypothesis. I guarantee you will get hurt," he said to Nightfall.

Wits nodded. "Quite right," he diverted the energy he had drained back into Nightfall and charged up a fireball. It glowed with a strange, bright yellow burning, and then surged forward at high velocity and lashed out at Karasu, splitting into three fireballs and reconverging at the last stretch.

"You think you can fight your own nature? You stupid worm!" Envy asked slightly amused. He began blasting another stream of Nightfall's energy at Wits and created a shield to block the fire.

 

(If this keeps up, Nightfall is going to be completely drained, and you guys have five more fights and one more BIG fight to go.)

The surge of power made Nightfall feel better, but right after, the power was lost again as K drained some more.

"Thanks, Wits. Keep my energy coming back to me. And Den, I'm going to need to know your hypothesis... Buck that, go ahead and do it. We don't have time."

[Octavia's Bow 2,035]

He nodded, "If your vision goes black, well, stay away from anything bright or beautiful," he said, directly after which he punched Nightfall in the face. "Soul-links are either connected to the life, emotions, or consciousness of a pony," he explained, before Maven could kill him.

Wits looked at the nature of the shield, but finding it difficult to do so at the same time as diverting the energy.

 

"Hey guys," he said. "If you could draw his attacks, it would be most appreciated!"

 

He fired off a couple of fireballs, similar to the first, but smaller and lacking the split at the end. They twisted and curved in wicked patterns as they went.

"Very cute, little boy, but hurting Nightfall won't hurt me. The only connection we have is in our energy. We're getting nowhere with this. Let me try something a little less fair!" EnvyTurned away from Wits and began firing strait into the air so that Wits couldn't give it back to Nightfall. The only thing he was trying to do now was drain them one at a time.
