Hirue was hit by the full force and was sent flying into the lobby and crashed into the floor. He didn't move at all after he hit the floor, nor did he breath. The creature literally did not know what had hit him, and he never would. Hirue was as dead as a any living thing could possibly be.

[Octavia's Bow 2,035]

"Nighty... I think... he's dead..." she says quietly, getting up. She seems almost fascinated, and slightly horrified at the same time. A single tear drops, but she feels a ton of feelings. Relief, sadness, guilt, she blames herself for the death because she forgot to bake brownies. "I'm sorry," she cries, "I forgot to bake brownies! I should've made them so the bad ponies didn't have to die! I'm sorry!"

Nightfall stood over the dead body. He breathed slowly, as only a trickle of blood leaked from his side. He wanted to know a bit more about who summoned him, but at least he was dead. He turned to the mares.

"Thank you for the help."

He hugged Sapphire, and motioned for Maven to join them.

"This is unexpected," Butajiri said as he stood in the abandoned asylum.

 

"What is it?" A second voice asked.

 

"Hirue, the one I sent to kill the captain, is dead."

 

"What! How could a pony kill a demon? Hirue must have been too weak to be counted among us! Let me kill him!"

 

"Do not underestimate them!" Butajiri ordered, "If Hirue was killed so easily, the killer must be someone of incredible spiritual energy..."

 

"Or it could have been a bear."

 

"Or a bear, yeah..."

Maven came closer, standing a little awkwardly next to the hugging couple. Sapphire's emotional outburst was expected; they knew eachother from some extra time at the station. The had agreed that if Nightfall decided he fell for both of them, they would respect his decision, and it left Maven confused. And now there was a new character; this Den pony.

 

Sapphire was crying in Nightfall's arms giving excuses for not making brownies; "The station was so busy, and then the phones stopped so Den wanted to go home, and he saw the foal he almost killed, and then he got a bad feeling, so we went back to the station, which was wired, but we got the pony and stuck him in his own trap and then came to see you, but you were under attacked, and then he died and I couldn't give him a brownie!" *Crying*

"Sapphire, now, please.. Brownies cannot solve every problem in Equestria. They solve most, especially yours, but I'm pretty sure this demon would not have wanted a brownie. He was bad to begin with, and therefore needed to be..."

He stopped. He didn't think continuing would help.

Nightfall stopped hugging Sapphire for a moment and tried dragging Maven into the hug.

"Come on, now, Maven, you helped. Together, the three of us, defeated the demon. So I can't let you escape without a thanks hug."

"No, I'm happy to say that the Inlet of Leaches is no more. Demons die just like ponies do." a familiar voice said. Jack stepped in from the front door, unannounced as always. "Congratulations, dimwit. You've made your first demon kill, and I hate to say that there's more where that came from."

Nightfall was distracted for a moment.

"Oh, hey. You. Thanks. That power helped. And yeah, figures. If one thing this big can get through, and the insects are everywhere, who knows how many more are roaming the city? And no, I'm not going to ask for your help to defeat them. You would only think I'm trying to get out easily."

"Hi. You look like a Jack. Can I call you Jack? I say you look like a Jack because I met a Jack on the streets. He wanted some bits for food so I gave him some. You don't look like him, now that I see you. Can I call you Jack anyway? Do you like brownies Jack? Nightfall, can I bake him some brownies? Pleeeeeeeeeeease?" *Begging eyes*

Nightfall was in a good mood. Something had clicked in his brain. He finally turned back to the other pony.

"I still don't have a name... But if it suits you, Jack does sound... Catchy."

"As big as him?" Jack asked puzzled, "the Vale doesn't care about size it's about strength. There are S class demons the size of insects and E class demons the size of shopping malls. Hirue had size, that is all he had. However, the Vale still holds strong. Even weaklings like him shouldn't get through. That means he was summoned. And... Yes, Jack is my name, how did you know."

"Yay!" Sapphire produced from the saddlebag she wore around a small, flat grill and a baggie of brownie batter and cherries. The smell of brownie/cookie filled the air. She giggled as she baked; It was her second most favorite thing to do.

 

 

"My problem is that whenever this colt shows up, it means something painful, stupid, or both is going to happen. And usually for some logical-sounding reason, which means I have to do it. And I hate taking orders," she grumbles.

He turned, now almost annoyed by his presence. He put a hoof on Maven's shoulder.

"Well, what do you want to do? I mean..."

"I am sorry if I come off as rude. Malificar do not have very active social lives." Jack said to Maven, "And I know you disapprove of what happened to Nightfall. You are wise to be protective. My name is Jackson, and I believe you are Maven, correct?" he extended a hoof for a friendly shake.

Sapphire jumped up when her brownies were done. There were 4, one for each of them, which she handed out. "I told you, you look like a Jack," she grins, eatting hers. "I think a real oven is better, but I couldn't fit it in my saddle bags, and it wouldn't work when disconnected to the wall. I wish I had magic..." she sighed.

 

Maven nodded, and took his hoof cautiously. Whe noted a firm hoof-shake. "Malficar, ponies with demons? And yes, this dofus gets in enough trouble, without help. Sometimes, I really wonder how he survived long enough to be captain," she said smiling and punching him playfully on the shoulder. The brownie had lifted her mood.

Jack was not fond of sweets. He ate simply to avoid being rude. He glanced at Hirue's misshaped body. "My favorite part is seeing what exciting story the media makes up to explain a demon corpse. This is not the first time a body like this has been seen by the public, yet so few believe."

"We could take the body and put it in a plastic container, drowning it in hydrochloric acid. Den and I saw it on Breaking Reins last night. Den said it was a re-run."

 

Maven was very suddenly uninterested in Den. Jack was confusing her, but her instincts rang 'Bad bad bad,' so probably not. Nightfall was taken; She sighed. She hadn't really thought about being lonely before.

"Maven, something is wrong. Either it's the demon's power in me, or something else, but I feel like you're... upset, disappointed, unsatisfied with something. Please... tell me what it is.."

Maven shrugged, "Nothing Nightfall, I'm just lonely. Most everypony else has family, or a special somepony. I think about it sometimes, is all. Now, don't we have a city to worry about? The whole reason you have a demon in your body?"

"Yes, but right now, while we have time, I want you to know you're... I feel like you are family to me, Maven. Sapphire, Den, and you are like the family I never had. Don't say things like that."

He pecked her on the cheek, blushed a bit while holding his serious face, then walked back to Sapphire and Jack.

Sapphire grinned at Nightfall, "Shall three ponies fit in the bed tonight? She asked playfully. "I think it's big enough for thee three of us. I don't think Jack'll fit though, we don't have a ton of room after Mav-" She shivered and Den took over. "We talked about this Sapphire," he sighed. "Sorry sir, her mouth doesn't have hinges."

 

Maven flushed at the mention of staying in a bed, heightening the blush from being called family. She sighed and looked at Jack expectantly.

Nightfall chuckled when Sapphire said what she said. He also just about rolled his eyes and blushed a bit more.

"No worries, Den. Sapphire is Sapphire. Let her be herself. I understand it. She's like somepony I heard of before... at least, from what I've heard about her."

He looked at Jack, expecting him to say something rude and blunt about either the issue Sapphire had just brought up and love when Nightfall should be killing demons, or telling him he's a dimwit, the smartest dimwit Jack had met, and that he needed to kill some more demons.

Jack looked back at Hirue's corpse. "I've seen that kind of demon before. They have almost no spiritual awareness, wich explains why he underestimated you so greatly. But I don't think it could have found with its senses alone. Whoever summoned him must have given him aid. They do have an incredible sense of smell. Do you know of anyone who would be able to provide him with a sample of your sent, like a lock of hair or piece of clothes?"
