Lightning Fluttershy 1,844 October 14, 2012 Share October 14, 2012 I've been watching since Felix lifted off. Still watching right now and I'm pretty excited and anxious for when the time comes for him to jump.
WildCard 1,037 October 14, 2012 Share October 14, 2012 To be honest, while I like the project, I don't like Felix at all. He may be an Austrian like me, but from what I've seen, he seems arrogant and not really sympathetic. I really wish someone else would jump Also I do think that the technical side of this project is way more important than the personal side. I don't think Felix is able to do a lot for the project, except from jumping and I think the RB engineers have planned it so the risk is kept to a minimum. In my opinion Baumgartner has made a lot of jumps that were more dangerous than this one. OC was made by Princess Ariona. PonyHag1 591 October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 Congratulations to him for sucessfully freefalling 24 miles from the edge of space. Imagine Rainbow Dash doing that with a global sonic rainboom when she breaks the sound barrier. 1 "Mr. The Dragon!" - Ms. Harshwhinny
Chigens and Kay 3,832 October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 (edited) ----- I merged your thread with a pre-existing one of the same subject. When thinking of a thread, please use the search function beforehand~ Yeah, I watched that guy jump out too. I was scared for him when he stopped breathing over the mic. To my relief, he was OK and it turned out to just be bad frequencies. :/ Edited October 15, 2012 by Chigens and Kay My signature broke
moneyshredderofdeath 414 October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 I didn't watch the event occur (I was asleep anyway) but I did read about it on BBC. Records like these are always fascinating to hear about... I also read that the height he jumped from should pave the way for scientific advances in high-altitude suits/parachutes which is a nice effect of his jump. Interestingly, 65 years ago on this day was when Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier. Yeager today was in a plane (though passenger rather than pilot) that broke the sound barrier commemorating this. 89 to boot!
I used to be a stranger 7,994 October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 Well done, but thankfully the Astronaut-preemptive Joe Kittenger still holds the record for longest free-fall, when he jumped from 102,000ft back in the 50s. Even still, this jump provides science to NASA because they've done very few experiments on humans falling from that height. This information is valuable for Re-entry scenarios and non-vehicle recovery systems from space. However 128,000 feet is still only a hair more than 1/10th of the way to where the International Space Station is.
