Explaining being a brony.

Out of curiousity, how did you explain being a brony to your friends and parents, if you have.

If not, I completely understand, I still haven't told my parents. As for my friends, I've told them in some private conversations, although it was once brought up in front of an entire class by one of my friends, I assume for the reason of trying to embarass me or something.

So what's your story?

Well it kinda turned out to be a big deal with my family. My mom and my 2nd oldest brother didn't take too kindly to it. My mom said that it wasn't normal for a 21 year old male to be watching a girls cartoon and my brother at the time said to me, "I can accept you for who you are but I cannot accept that you watch a cartoon show" (I almost burst out laughing at that). Surprisingly my dad was alright with it and he didn't even care. I showed both my mom and dad the pbs video about bronies and my dad understood it (he's a bit of trekkie) and my mom still didn't know what to make of it. Most of my brothers (except my 2nd oldest) accept it and don't make a big deal about it. I love my parents very much but it can be frustrating with my mom as she likes to stay in her own little bubble when it comes to stuff that we tend to disagree on.

Everyone i tell seems to be relatively cool with it. especially my parents. They didn't really make a big deal of it, but my mother doesn't entirely find it 'normal' for someone to watch it.

Explaining why I like a show that was made primarily for little girls essentially boils down to three words:

"Watch the show."

Totally agree with this.

I dont understand how someone can formulate a logical opinion on something without actually having

any personal experience on the matter

I haven't actually. They clearly know since I haven't made any effort to hide it but we've never actually had a conversation about it. I suppose if the subject comes up I'll say I heard that the show had a lot of adult fans and was really good, so I watched a few episodes and liked it a lot. That's pretty much it, it's a high quality show

I have four people I know that I'd love someone to say that to them. Save for one of them, all of then refuse to watch the show because it's "for little girls" (because that's a valid reason somehow). Ignorance these days.

I haven't technically told anyone really. I told one of my good friends and he told his younger brother (who i'm also friends with), they have both asked me "wtf?" when they first saw my Steam picture and I told them. They only brought it up that 1 time and haven't said anything about it otherwise. I live with my grandparents so even if i told them i would get 1 of 2 responses...

1. "What are you talking about? what type of show are you trying to explain?"

or

2. If they did have an idea of what I was telling them about they might think of the older generations, not Friendship is Magic.

I know my grandparents have probably seen the little things like my random pictures or a game mod or the wallpaper on my tablet, but haven't said a word about it. That's all i've told and honestly, i'd rather keep it that way, at least for right now.

I consider myself quite lucky, for the most part. But I did it in an indirect way. I showed my dad one cool brony song that I thought he would like. Turns out he did, he asked me where did I get it, I told him it's inspired in MLP: FIM; he asked "Really?" I told him yeah, said that the show is now a new one, that I have been watching the show and I really enjoy it, told many of the things bronies are famous of, maybe even mentioning famous bronies or rumored to be bronies, and he said "Wow...interesting" and that was the end of that. They now know I watch the show, and I from time to time keep showing my dad some songs. Since my mom was around she found out too, and it was almost as if I was speaking to both in a few moments. My sister knows too and she was cool with it, my cousin from another country (who I wub) knows and she too is now a brony, and a friend of mine that is currently on vacation in USA knows too, I converted him into a brony. No one else knows so far. It wasn't really hard when explaining all the cool stuff, or rather, start from something that was made by bronies that you think others might like, like brony songs.
