jeanne 5 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 Caution TMI. Please stop here if you don't wanna know. -------------------- Ok I'm not a real outdoorsy person. Some girl friends invited me to go hiking with some next weekend in the forest and I really want to join them! We're gonna hike both days. I've talked with them about plans & what to bring and stuff, but I'm too shy to ask them in person about going potty. There aren't any bathrooms along the trail. So please help me out. Cuz you gotta drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and that means I'll have to pee!! Where's the best places to go pee? Would you go beside a tree or on some grass or a rock?? Do you take t.p.? And after using it, do you just toss it behind a bush??
Sugarcube 213 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 Look out.for posion ivy and oak and familiarize yourself with any plants that are known to cause skin agititation, you don't want to be taking your potty breaks near those Outdoor peeing isn't the most fun a girl will ever have but if you remember to just be careful you'll be fine. Best places to go are behind trees and safely identified plants. As for the tp situation you can't just leave it out there if you use some, that is littering and it is disrupting the ecosystem, that one bit of tp could do some damage to small animal. If you decide to use tp you are going.to have to be responsible for properly disposing of.it like the rest of your trash, you wouldjt leave food wrappers on the trail would you? If it is comfortable to do so ask your friends how they generally manage the bathroom issue, or you can google online to see. Honestly the people I know who are hiking enthusiasts generally just use safely identified leaves or grass for their wipiing business 2 I may have been born yesterday sir, but I stayed up all night - El-P
I used to be a stranger 7,993 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 It shouldn't really be a problem unless the hike goes for more than two hours without a designated rest area. But even so if it makes you worry, then by definition it is a logistical problem that needs to be considered. It doesn't matter if you're shy about it, it could become a major problem if left unaddressed. Talk to them about it.

Bunches 81 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 as for peeing, do it anywhere, but do not sit on a plant. also try not to pee directing onto a small plant as it will probably kill it. don't wander too far off of your trail just "to not be seen". you don't want to get lost. best place is have your friends close by, and just pee on the side of the trail, near a tree. do not bring TP. just do a little shake, and deal with it. shower when you get back to wherever you are staying. atleast that is how we deal with it when we go hiking. but to be honest, you probably wont have an issue with peeing. there may be a rest area. pee before you leave. but you should probably just ask your friends what they normally do. they know the trail already, so they'll have a definite answer for you, and then you can stop worrying about it. have fun! this sounds like a really cool opportunity, especially if you've never done anything like this before. take pictures! 2 "I read somewhere that 77 per cent of all the mentally ill live in poverty. Actually, I'm more intrigued by the 23 per cent who are apparently doing quite well for themselves." -Jerry Garcia Say hi to me on Gaia, username: SkrinkleAndSkrod

Zygen 6,066 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Well I'm not a girl, but I was in boyscouts and we had a few times where we had to pee outside. The best places to go are obviously going to be trees and behind bushes. I wouldn't suggest trying to pee on plants or anything on purpose, because chances are you might kill it. Just try to find the most secluded tree or bush you can,(Depending on how populated your hiking spot is will change how secluded it might need to be and how important it is to have some lookouts.) but try not to get to far off the path. You may want to have you friends just stand and wait, don't feel shy about it though because by the end of the trip considering its 2 full days your going to have to feel comfortable around them. You may all end up stoping at the same place and stuff to make things easier. I don't know anything again about technique considering I'm a guy. Obviously since your going to have to squat I guess you might wanna try to have a tree or something to balance on and try not to soak anything.(Sorry I can't offer much more and Idk how valid that advice is) And you can't really bring toilet paper since that won't be good if an animal mistakes it for food and eats it. I would just recommend learning to recognize poison oak, Poison sumac, and poison ivy. And make sure those aren't anywhere near the places you chose. (My grandfather had trouble last time he forgot about that..) And if you really need to wipe then use some type of leave that isn't one of those poisonous plants. Hopefully you won't have to deal with poopin, since thats a bit of a different story. Most of the time people I know who go hiking bring a little shovel of some type to dig holes for that. Should be similar to peeing outside. And I guess that's all I can think of right now. Remember don't be shy about it because trust me your going to need to be atleast somewhat comfortable about it by the time the hike comes around. Especially if there really is no bathrooms. Overall it shouldn't be a big deal, other then having to get use to answering natures call differently. It should be a very nice relaxing time, nature is really great and it gives you a nice sense of freedom. I'd still be in boyscouts, but my troop died down alot and I had alot of other things to do so i no longer am in it. Anyways don't worry and have fun! Its a great opportunity to try all kinds of things! Getting a chance to live as a country type girl for a little bit will be a great experience! (Might be a good experience for me to actually go into a true city like place for once to..) Anyways good luck! Hopefully my advice was helpful even if I'm a guy so I don't know how much of it apply, and sorry if its lengthy! Y'all have fun! Just relax and enjoy it! It won't be nearly as bad as you think it will be I bet! If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I'll try and answer! 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Evilshy 5,090 October 30, 2012 Share October 30, 2012 Wear a skirt. Don't wear panties. When you feel the urge, walk off the trail, spread your legs and pee like a dude (i.e. standing up and wherever the hell you want). Problem solved Signature now 99% less edgy! PlunderSteed 1,252 October 31, 2012 Share October 31, 2012 Wear a skirt. Don't wear panties. When you feel the urge, walk off the trail, spread your legs and pee like a dude (i.e. standing up and wherever the hell you want). Problem solved Although entertaining, I'm not sure how practical this would be. One thing to consider would be how "hard core" the other hikers are. For reference, I've run a couple of marathons and it was not at all uncommon for a female athlete to simply move about 20 feet off the path and do her business. Shake it and move on. Big whoop. Another time, I was conducting "outdoor training" with a couple of young ladies who thought pee time was gossip time, and I had to tell them to "shut the fuck up while you piss, or you'll get us all captured and tortured/executed". Now, that might not be the kind of atmosphere you're operating in, but just consider it a frame of reference along the same continuum.
