Forum Privacy

Recently I have noticed a lot of attacks from haters and attackers attacking bronys and they are watching topics on this forum to see how we are reacting or to help coordinate attacks and hacks. I think the forum should be changed so you can only read anything on it if you create an account and once you create an account you have to introduce your self before you can view any other posts apart from the welcoming plaza. If nothing else it will help a lot of people (my self included) feel more secure about their privacy and could also help deter some of the would be haters.

please at least put a poll out on this request,

thanks

The forums have an adequate amount of staffers to moderate any harmful accounts or topics/posts if they should appear. I can't speak for the technical side of the site though.

The problem is anybody on the web can just see everything on this forum and its working in the favor of the haters

Sorry to say, but that's not going to happen. Speaking solely from my own perspective, I flat-out refuse to go through the trouble of joining any community that requires me to make an account before I am able to view that community's content. My opinion is that a good community should not hide its contents away behind closed doors.

Not only that, but locking our content away would have an absolutely destructive effect on our incoming traffic. We get a ridiculous amount of inbound traffic from Google and the like, leading people directly to any one of the thousands of threads we've got here. Hiding everything away would destroy that completely.

Nothing we do will ever prevent people with malicious intent from joining this forum for the sole sake and purpose of causing trouble. While it is true that we can take steps to hinder their progress, the very vast majority of our new registrations are completely and utterly legit - there is no reason to inconvenience and annoy all of our new members for the sake of slowing down a couple trolls.

That said, as far as I'm concerned... let them come. We'll deal with them easily enough - it takes less than five minutes to ban their account and remove every single post and thread they've created during their brief stay here. We have sufficient staff that dealing with a few morons isn't going to break our collective backs.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that any measure we take to prevent trolls from getting on to the board will ultimately be a wasted effort. People that truly desire to cause problems will cause problems regardless of what safeguards we may attempt to put into place.

The forums' security is only as good as its vigilant members who take the time to report what they see.

Unless the troll is highly visible and out in plain site, then it's pretty easy to weed out lol.

Really, but if a troll or hater came by and did their troll/hater thing, they got more than a thousand bronies that will beat them to the ground. We are our own protection, just as long as others help in and post against the haters.

Honestly, 'beating them into the ground' isn't terribly helpful when it comes to trolls. If you respond to them you're doing nothing more than giving them exactly what they're looking for. The best way to handle things is to report them and move on - we'll take care of the rest. ;)

As Zoop said, making guests register before being able to view any of the forums content would be detrimental to the intake of new users. And the staff here are very good at their jobs, so trolls shouldn't ever prove to big a problem, just make sure to report them whenever you do see one.

If you are scared of getting attacked on the internet don't go on the internet. That's basic.

I love you! <3

Not scared of getting attacked in fact at no point did i mention fear what i did say is I am mildly concerned about privacy

If you are scared about privacy, then don't post anything on the Internet that you don't want anything to see.

I know that you want to feel like you can say anything you want to your Internet brony friends, but the truth is that this is a public forum. I make it a point not to say stuff on here that could be used against me IRL. That is one of those basic rules of the Internet. You have to watch what you say IRL too - why should the Internet take that rule away?
