Oh Noes the quality is spiraling downward:O

Personally I wouldn't really say the quality is going downhill, although I can't shake the feeling things are becoming different.

I'm not as excited anymore about these new episodes as I was in previous seasons. The best episodes for me so far this season were Wonderbolt Academy and Sleepless in Ponyville. I didn't really enjoy episodes like "Crystal Empire", "Too many Pinkie Pies" and "Magic Duel". (Haven't watched the latest episode yet)

At first I thought I was growing out of the series, but I'm still enjoying my favorite episodes of previous seasons a lot. I'm going to watch a few of them each saturday to fill the gap until the next episode.

I do agree some things feel different, but I can't really describe why.

Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I think this season has already beaten season 1 and 2, and it's not even done! This season has been giving me episodes that I've been waiting a while for, and other episodes that I've been able to rewatch more than the other seasons. On top of that Season 3's weakest episodes still manages to reach "Good" territory, while the last two's weakest ranged from "mediocre" to "awful"

Sometimes I feel like this fanbase is so worried about the show's fate that they're trying to make things sound worse than they really are

While I wouldn't go as far as to say the episodes' quality has declined, most episodes have something in them that could've been done better.

Too Many Pinkie Pies: Watching paint dry...too risky. Does anybody have a better idea that's safer while still being funny?

One Bad Apple: Babs became a good guy too easily. It would've been an interesting friendship building experience if all four of them took a mud bath together.

Wonderbolts Academy: Lightning Dust isn't at fault if the Wonderbolt training ground is restricted airspace. And if it's not restricted airspace, LD should be smart enough not to try something like a tornado.  But RD acted to stop the falling ponies while LD stood by and did nothing.

Apple Family Reunion: One of the visiting ponies should have suggested building a new barn as their last activity together. Having AJ say it makes her look selfish.

Spike at Your Service: Spike should've said that he recently learned about the dragon's code of honor.  He can do library type chores competently but AJ would still be uncomfortable accepting slave labor from him. Spike learns to scare the timberwolves away with his fire breath.

I think people just have a tendency to worry about the things they love going down hill. It's part of being a nerd (and I don't mean that in a bad way). The more passionate you are about something the more bitter disappointment can be (i.e. Star Wars prequels). Consequently bronies cant help but to hold the show to the excellent standard it has set for itself. Personally, I definitely do not think season 3 has gone down hill. It's still good, but with that said it has yet to ... capture me like the other two seasons. There haven't been any episodes that I would consider amongst a list of my favorite episodes. The Crystal Empire and One Bad Apple have probably been my favorites of this season, but there are a number of past episodes that I like more. And even though we're only 9 episodes into the season there have already been 3 episodes that I didn't care for. Well, maybe more like 2 1/2. There is only one episode in season 1 that I don't like, Feeling Pinkie Keen. There were 2 episodes in season 2 that I don't care for, Dragon Quest and The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000. In season 3 there have already been 2 episodes I didn't care for, The Wolderbolt's Academy and Spike At Your Service, and to a lesser extent Too Many Pinkie Pies. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the remaining episodes really wow me. If they don't then this will probably be my least favorite season, but its still good on average though. All shows have certain seasons that are stronger than others and the weaker one's are not even always at the end of a series' run.

Season three hasn't provided any terrible episodes yet, even my least favorite has significant redeeming qualities. That said, season three has provided many mediocre episodes, enough so that I'm inclined to believe the show's quality is gradually declining. There is no downward spiral but there is cause for concern.

I've been a fan of Doctor Who since childhood, and with Moffat's total loss of sanity and comprehension over the past few years I can tell you a thing or two about downward spirals in shows - but I've got nothing on this one.

FiM seems fine and nothing  indicates to me that it's going downhill, such as increasingly common out of place, unfunny, or uncute things. The overall themes of friendship and good character are intact. The characters are intact. The storytelling that consists of a lot of short lessions with a few larger, more dramatic stories is intact. Haven't liked the songs too much this season, but that's about it.
