Hello I am Christain and brony and I enjoy way more stuff that I'm not supposed to...

God wants us to be happy. As long as you aren't hurting someone, I can't see why He'd be against you enjoying something.

Not really sure how to respond to that. I'm glad you at least aren't actively against homosexuals.

But just as a Christian of similarly Libertarian bent, I don't see how either calls us to be against homosexuality.

A lot of the time, people take what the Bible says the wrong way, and think that it's their duty to hate homosexuals. In all honesty, it never says anything like this in the Bible. If you think "What would Jesus do?", you wouldn't think of him making fun a someone that is homosexual.

Not sure how much of that is true but sure why not...

The same man/Lord who treated an outcast prostitute with sympathy and understanding, after all.

A lot of people forget this though. Ironically, there aren't very many Christians that follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. That's why everyone calls us hypocrites, because so many Christians preach about love when so many of them are full of hate.

He did, but he also said that not everything is good for us.

Right, like murder, theft, and self-harm. I'm not sure what @@Panne, is specifically referring to, but as long as it doesn't involve hurting himself or another, I wouldn't say enjoying it is a sin.

Sans any subliminal messaging, of course.

That's nothing but an unfounded rumor. Just as much as I could find the exact date of the end of the world by some numnerology with the Bible.

Plus many rock bands actually have songs with lyrics about opposing evil, not supporting it. Not subliminal either, blatantly. See "Paladin" by Feedom Call and basically all of Dragonforce's songs.

Does porn count as self harm...

I would say only if you become obsessed with it. At the exclusion of all else. To the point that you can't make a genuine human connection. Then it simply becomes gluttony.

Just as drinking isn't wrong by itself, but being an alcoholic is.

Well, I've listened to Dragonforce, etc. many times, and I never became a cultist or anything, so you may have some credence there.

If anything, my "subliminal messaging" comment was mostly dark humor.

I have an honest question.

Is it wrong if a Christian is social and happy with everyone else, but ignores someone in depression? I'm just curious as to whether or not you guys think God likes that :(

Well, my initial thinking would be that Christians are to be a comfort to those who mourn or are suffering, as much as one is able. And upon do a quick search of Holy Scripture, God says through the pen of the Apostle Paul:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. ( 2 Corinthians 1:3-7  ESV italics mine)

So based upon that right, which I found rather quickly; I would consider it part of what Christians are supposed to do, since God comforts us. This would seem to be the clear teaching expressed here.

And as an aside; I must once again give thanks to Christ for dying on the cross for wretches like me, as I have discussed something I fail at quite regularly.

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

So if a Christian ignores someone in depression would that be considered a bad thing?

So is gluttony.

Yes there is a blurry line between the two though. Sabotaging a relationship just so you can sleep with the party you're attracted to? That's lust because your desire for sex with them was more important than their actual happiness.

Simply indulging in pornography to the point that it consumes you is the same as any pleasure of the flesh, including food. Which would fall under gluttony.

They're both bad, just different kinds of bad.

I have a couple of questions:

How many of you here view homosexuality as a sin?

What exactly is wrong about a man showing genuine love towards another man?

When the Bible mentions homosexuality, it always seems to describe it within the context of fortification and sexual impurity. In addition, the King James Version makes no mention of homosexuality (the word is not even explicitly used). It still says that a man shall not lie with another man as he does with a woman, but only in the book of Leviticus. When the book of Leviticus was written the old covenant still governed the believers' way of life. There are about 600 rules laid out in the book that we don't ever give second thoughts about—except the one specifically referring to homosexuals apparently. It seems there is this constant association of gays and lustful fornication in various interpretations of the Bible throughout the common church. I don't think it is right to portray homosexuals as such. I've had a number of friends from the LBGT community and they didn't seen to fit the sexually disgusting stereotypes that the local churches have labeled them with.

So what are your thoughts? I would appreciate hearing your thoughts and opinions on this matter :)

Dude, there are people who listen to "Bodies" or "The Animal I have become" and don't go out on killing sprees.  :P

Flirting with dark subject matter doesn't make one not Christian. It's only when you allow the dark material to become more than just harmless entertainment that you're in the wrong. Even then, is that the fault of the tempter or the one who chose to make what was fun into an unhealthy attitude?

But with pornography you're obviously enjoying what you see if you actively search for it and it may give you the same feelings as actual intercourse which would qualify as adultery and fornication. Not to mention most people who indulge in that "do things" while they look which makes it even worse.

I've read quite a number of verses where it mentions that love is between a man and a woman. I wonder why you of all people is suddenly questioning this ^_^

In Mass last week, the Priest said that we are all called upon to do good, and not just be good. Not just choose not to do bad, but to go that extra mile and help those in need.
