It's been a long time since I've played DMC. I played 1, 3, and 4. Skipped over 2 due to everyone saying that it is the worst of the series and not to play it. I have played the DMC reboot demo and the game play is pretty fun. They took elements from the other games for the fighting mechanics. I just don't care for Dante's new look. I think it could be a decent game. From what I can tell from watching videos and playing the demo, the reboot takes place before the other games. Which I guess is obvious since its a reboot.

Of course, since its been so long since I've played DMC, I can't really remember much about them except that they are good games and should not be missed.

I'll have to keep that in mind. Is it like DMC3 and 4 where the final mission is just the final boss fight? If so I wouldn't waste Gold Orbs on the first form at all if I can help it.

My least favorite fight in DMC3 is either the one with Lady's father after he transforms into that thing or the two sword brothers. I ALWAYS die to the sword bros like crazy. Hopefully now that I've played 3, 4 and then 1 and 2 when I get back to 3 it'll be a tad easier. I played the Special Edition of 3 so I didn't have to restart the missions every time I died but I think I could do that now.

The final boss to 3 is a cake compared to Mundus. Mundus has two forms in the first mission you fight him in, and in the first form you can only launch fireballs at him. No sword, no grenade launcher. His second form is a little easier. Finally, in his third fight he's pretty much pathetic. If you die in the third battle with him, then you must suck badly.

It's an interesting point of debate that many people are saying that DmC may be a reboot or it may be an origin story (again) but no solid evidence one way or the other. Although Nim has read the DMC manga and I have not and says that's the actual origin story but I would not put it past Capcom, who as I said is looking over Ninja Theory's shoulder throughout the entire development process so it's not going to stray too far from the original concepts, to try to retcon any origins story they have and say "oh but it actually happened this way" with DmC. Stuff like that happens in comic books all the time, why not in games too? :P

There's even some inconsistency between DMC1 and 3, the original origin story since it took place before the events of DMC1. I can't remember exactly what it is but last night I came across something that was supposedly explained in DMC3 so retconning isn't totally out of the question for this series.

Considering I've had little trouble with the rest of the game even if I do have some trouble with Mundus' first two forms I won't with the final form. I've always heard he was piss easy but that's also coming from a friend who played the entire game on Easy Automatic.

Speaking of Easy Automatic I hate it. In DMC4 I actually found the game HARDER with Automatic turned on so I turned it off and whipped that came into shape.

Here's something interesting: It's been said that the events of DmC might twist into the original and canon storyline. It's speculated that everything in that world is a simulation created by Mundus, and Mundus is using the new Dante in the simulation(new Dante was a demon created by Mundus) to test him, to see if he could beat the real Dante. It's said that in the end, simulation Dante will wreck the simulation and break out.

While I find it silly, it could be true and I'm quite well looking forward to seeing what the end of DmC will be like. It'll put all of our theories to rest, whether it's not canon, if it's a prequel, or it's really some big twist.

I hadn't heard that theory before but that definitely sounds very interesting. Man, I'm getting super hyped for this game now that I'm talking about it. Demo pleased me, the actual game will too. Though I think I should try to beat DMC1 and maybe 2 before I get into it.

Oh, another thing, this is from the wiki page for the new game. "Announced in late 2010 during the Tokyo Game Show,[8] the game is set in an alternate reality in the Devil May Cry series.". Being an alternate reality, it probably won't EVER connect with the original storyline.

True, also potentially supporting the simulation theory. Still, we're talking about dimension-crossing demons so it's entirely possible they'll make some twist plot point that connects it with the main games.

In the new game it's said that new Dante and Vergil as sons of a demon and an angel. It's been constantly said in the original games that Eva was a human, not an Angel. This I think makes it obvious enough that they aren't the same people. But I do comprehend that new Dante and new Vergil might find their way into the real world, and I'm sure that one way or another real Dante might just either kick his ass, or end up teaming up with him.

Which goes back to the retcon theory. DMC3 changed a few things that made it inconsistent with DMC1 at certain points so I wouldn't be surprised if it changed.

Bah, all this speculation and I'm playing devil's advocate for something that has no real evidence. Boy am I stupid.

I wouldn't say stupid, just a little uninformed. I know a lot of about the story and the canon. I always read about that when i play games. For all we know, you could be right. We won't know until the end of the game is released. I think it'd be cool if the simulation theory was real though.

I like to believe in things that are unconfirmed, even if they ultimately end up being untrue. Causes a sense of wonder about a game that makes me enjoy it even more.

I really do need to check out the manga and anime though so I can get the full story. Plus I don't believe anything anyone says, even the developers, about story unless it's put into a game because until it's been made solid by a game (or other media device) it can change in whatever way the developers want.

The anime doesn't follow the canon story like the manga does. It just takes place between 1 and 4, as a filler I guess. But I agree, a sense of wonder is always nice. While I don't agree with Capcom's choices, I still respect the company greatly.

Well it's still canon as long as it's taking place in the same universe, even if it's never referenced or mentioned. Canon means it is true and relevant to the universe and plot of a series. Non-canon is when it's not considered to have happened at all within the series.

Yeah, I guess. So unless DmC Dante has a way of finding himself into the original story, then I guess for now he's non-canon. Canon in his own universe, but not in DMC.

Beat the first Devil May Cry yesterday. I honestly didn't expect to be able to do it but it was far easier than I imagined. I had the most trouble with the second form of Mundus and even that was a piece of cake with three Devil Stars.

I had the most trouble with his first form. The controls were inverted and it made it hard for me. I had much better time on land with my gun back.

I beat Normal mode on DMC3 yesterday and have started Hard mode. I don't know why you thought Cerberus was hard, because I pretty much beat Cerberus the fuck up on Hard. Didn't even lay a hit on me, too.

Consider that when I first fought Cerberus it was my first DMC game ever so I wasn't quite expecting the difficulty.

The inverted controls messed with me too. Normally I have to play with my camera inverted in games that allow that but I hate doing flight controls the way they did it unless it's Ace Combat. Once I got used to it it was really easy though considering the Devil Trigger in that fight obliterates his health and takes like a third of it off.

The absolute hardest part of the entire game for me though was the last Nightmare fight. Took me a while to realize I had to use Devil Trigger to hurt it and to figure out I could jump on top of him when he does that laser beam.

It's also been quite a while since I played DMC3 too so maybe when I replay it after I beat DMC2 (which by the way, I can see how it'd turn people off because of it's super wonky control scheme) I won't have any trouble with the sword brothers now that I have a ton more experience playing DMC. I've improved greatly in my general gaming skill since I played DMC3.

That dragon does obliterate his health, I know. But the DT takes forever to regen, so unless you came packing Devil Stars it might be tricky. I came packing Yellow orbs rather than Devil Stars.

And there's a reason why he's called Nightmare. He's one tough fucker to beat up, even before your last fight with him.

I honestly didn't have that much trouble. As long as you HIT him it goes up but that might also have been hard since you had trouble controlling Dante in the first place there. I saved my Devil Stars for the second form cuz I wanted to just finish him off as quickly as possible since I used my last (of four that I bought) Gold Orbs there.

Honestly Nightmare wasn't THAT hard the first two times though now that I've figured out how to fight him in fight 3 he should be easier from now on.

Perhaps next time you fight Mundus you should go for Devil Stars instead of Gold Orbs. It might make the fight incredibly easier though you still have to destroy the barrier before it'll hurt him, I think.

Yes, i do like Devil May Cry, a lot.
I recently started playing again DMC3 and finished it in Normal, moved up the fourth mission in Hard and my gamepad broke so i have to wait until i get a new one.
Oh, i'm emulating it, my PS2 is dead.
Also, i'm against the releasing of the new DMC, not even released and because of all the details we got we can know easily the game will be crap.

I've been a major fan of the DMC series since the very first game, and I've never been disappointed with the directions that each game seemed to take. Unique gameplay, stylish combat, a gripping story, and unbelievably cool characters blend together in DMC like nowhere else. I'm a little dismayed by the newest DMC game, mostly because it's so different from the others, but objectively, it's not a bad game, either. I think of it as a standalone title, and a prequel to the series, and hope for the storyline that ended in Devil May Cry 4 to pick up where it left off in the next game.

I've got an idea! No..... No, wait; it's just a concussion....

I've only ever played the 2nd one when it was out. And I loved it! Only recently when I was having a conversation whether to but the new one or not did it get mentioned to me that it was the worst :P lol, I was pretty young when I played it. I really don't like Dante's new look, he looks like he's from One Direction or something :P that's not the main reason why I liked DMC though. Hopefully they keep the difficulty up high? Are they? Because Ninja Gaiden's really easy and I hope they don't do that :/

I've always loved the sexy combat and the combos. Those little zoom ins when you meet a new enemy. I've never followed the story :P So I might actually get the older games... The thing that really got me into the game was the difficulty and how long it took me to complete.

I'm K with the new look now after seeing this http://youtu.be/kObPI4AFy50

wat a sexi voice.

All the settings look lovely as well

*looks at more trailers* wat a sexi game. Definitely buying. Should I try 1,3 and 4 or do you think I'll have the same experience if I play this new one first? Just wondering about story.

I say play the other 3 games before buying DmC. You won't have the same experience at all. This new DmC removed the lock-on button and changed just about all of the details of the health bar, and the DT bar. Hell, they even destroyed his DT appearance.

The order isn't particularly important though things in DMC4 may actually spoil some things in DMC1 (maybe something in DMC3 might spoil a boss in DMC1 as well but I don't recall if that's true or not)

Definitely should try them though. DMC2 is extremely different from 1, 3 and 4 anyway so it's not a  good way to get a feel for the series. The combat is shallower, they changed the layout of the controls and it's extremely linear compared to the others. (Though don't take my word on that last part since I'm only up to mission 7)

DmC is much more like the other three as it takes pretty much all of the combat mechanics of those and add a few more such as the ability to switch between angel and demon modes by pressing the shoulder buttons which allows for different combos. The angel weapon is faster but takes less damage while the demon one will lay the smack down on enemies so they can't get up. They also added a lot of grappling techniques. DMC4 added some grappling thanks to Nero's Devil Bringer but DmC expands on that and makes it far more complex. Try out the demo if you can, it's really freakin' sweet.

I say play the other 3 games before buying DmC. You won't have the same experience at all. This new DmC removed the lock-on button and changed just about all of the details of the health bar, and the DT bar. Hell, they even destroyed his DT appearance.

Actually DmC didn't remove the lock-on button. It's definitely there and the combat feels almost exactly the same but with more opportunity for great combos if you get really good at it between using the above mentioned grappling and switching between the demonic and angel weapons.

The new releasing game is a reboot, so it has NOTHING to do with the previous games.

You definitely won't get the same experience if you play this new one and then the old ones, the new one is much slower than the older games.

Play DMC3 and DMC1, in the order i said.

Try to get the secret ending in DMC3 if you can, it will help you with the story.
