"Flame Dancer! You feel like heading over there with me again?" He turned to Flame Dancer, who looked like he wanted to sit inside the fire right about now, and there was a menacing smile that pierced Discharge's lips.

Flame jumped up quite quickly. It almost seemed the like fire followed him...as if her pulled it out of the fire pit, But after a second it stopped and went back to looking like a normal fire. Flame nodded and grabbed onto his spear. "This will be interesting." He muttered, Flicking his mane out of his eyes and spreading his wings.

Night Song finally stopped hovering and sat down, her wings now pretty sore. She reached into her saddlebags and pulled out a bright red apple. Oh geez, I wish I had levitation like those unicorns do... she thought as she looked around for something to jab through her apple with. She then heard Discharge's voice and looked up. She looked around, but didn't see any moving shapes or anything.

@,@, @,

Lost Knowledge lifted his hatchet into the air with his magic and assumed a fighting stance.

"Alright, unless somebody has a better plan, I say we wait until they get closer, then the two of you move in to attack, and I'll cover you from here with my magic. That sound good?"

A howl.

Maroon Sky had heard a lot of stories about the famed Timberwolves, from their illogical bodies to their famed tireless pursuit  when tracking wounded prey, not a single of them had pleasant ending. He certainly wasn't in a hurry to meet any of those weirdly constructed beasts of prey. He stood up and unlatched one of his stone clubs with his telekinesis. Lost knowledge and the others were quick to prepare themselves to take on the beasts. Maroon Sky admired their enthusiasm. He stepped back, closer to Quip. He was never a close-ranged fighter, but at least he could provide a literal cover fire.

Silently Maroon Sky started to chant some spells into his weapon, preparing it for things to come.

Discharge sat there quietly for a few seconds, as everypony else prepared to fight. He was thinking about the best way to actually fight off these beasts quickly.

Suddenly, he extended his right wing, unsheathed his kukri from underneath and turned to face everpony.

"Good idea Lost, we dont have much time. Night Song, you stay close to the carriage and provide archer support, Maroon, can you stay with them and provide close support if any get past? Flame, me and you will head up the front, get their attention on us." He then flared his wings, and with a nod of his head to Flame Dancer, he took flight and hovered above the group, waiting to dive the coming threat. The night was thick, and the number of TimberWolves was uncertain - but from previous experience with these things, he knew they didn't hunt in anything less than a pack of 5.

"You and I.*" Flame muttered, spreading his wings and following Discharge into the sky. He gripped his spear and waited for the wolves to leave the forest. *Here we go. Deep breath in, and out.* He thought, taking a deep breath in and exhaling out his nose. "When you're ready Discharge." He called.

Goldseek saw the timberwolves and smiled. About time something happened. He drew his blade and took battle stance, but it was obvious nopony else noticed him. It wasn't a problem to him. Soon he would be fighting again. Just like old times. But he wasn't staying behind. He charged forwards.

"Goldseek! Wait!" Discharge shouted down seeing the pony charging forwards.

"If you want in on the distraction, wait for us to make the first strike from the sky, you and Aqua take their flanks. Timberwolves aren't to be underestimated" He looked out to see the Timberwolf formation in the distance, they had picked up some speed now, and seemed to be aware of the ponies readiness - they where now sprinting straight for them.

@,

Night Song's head shot up at the mention of her name. She nodded to Discharge and trotted over to the carriages. She began to hover and she took out an arrow. She strung it to her bow, pulled back, and waited for Discharge's signal. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought it was going to burst. First time fighting something... hope I survive...

@,

Goldseek looked up, then saluted, galloping around the timberwolves, then waiting for a signal to attack. He felt good to be fighting again. He felt a little dishonoured by Discharge's comment on how the timberwolves weren't to be underestimated. He had dealt with worst then timberwolves. He didn't let it show, however.

Discharge's eyes narrowed, and his focus was purely on keeping everypony else safe.

He turned towards the two ponies at the carriage - "Any time now, you two fire, Flame and I will hit them head on."

He really hoped his plan would work...initial ranged attacks by the archers, a distraction from himself, and a flanking movement by Goldseek. This fight would hopefully be over before they knew it.

(OK, just so everyone is clear. If you've not looked at the combat spoiler tag in the OOC forum, you should do that now - to clear up what the system will be. I'm also going to be trusting each of you to fight without OPing yourselves. We will be using dice rolls, but I will trust you all to fight fairly and I will allow you to hit the hostiles without a dice roll on occasion, if you post it yourself - eg Discharge slammed his Kukri into the side of one of the Timberwolves, sending it limply to the ground, he then turned to face a second who had attempted to flank him - Besides, you all know what to do)

Alright, here goes nothing.

Lost Knowledge levitated his hatchet and flung it forward, sending it spinning (horizontally, as in the head and handle are at the same elevation) towards one of the timberwolves. Ideally it would hit the timberwolf in it's open mouth and cut through it's jaw, leaving it unable to bite.

(Well, we'll see how well this works...)

*Roll 6, Flip a head - Critical hit*

The hatchet lands squarely in the jaw of the Timberwolf with an audible thud. The force of the impact sent its head jolting to one side causing the wolf to lose balance and collapse in a heap, sending the wolf behind to trip over the sudden obstacle, landing on its head breaking it clean off. Not bad for a single throw.

3 Timberwolves currently remain, slightly slowed by the retaliation, but still approaching quickly.

(So yeah, I might not post my characters actions during the DM sections like this)

Well, here we go! Aim, shoot straight... Night Song pulled her arrow back to it's maximum draw and let go. There was a whistle as it shot past to hit the second Timberwolf, the light glinting off it's arrowhead. She had aimed for the neck, hoping it had a weak point of some kind.

*Roll 3, Flip a head* There aren't many things that can go badly with an arrow either :P

The arrow flies into the Timberwolf, missing the neck but landing in its shoulder. At first it looks to be a minor wound, but as the wolf takes a few more steps the injury becomes slightly more visible, and the wolf begins to limp. The last remaining wolf at the back of the group rounds in front of the injured partner, shielding it from further attacks with its own body.

Discharge was eyeing the battle keenly, when he suddenly realised they where getting too close. "Flame! We need to move, now!" he shouted, darting down to the ground to halt their advance. Brandishing his Kukri, he intended to decapitate the leader cleanly. It was a risky move and he was outnumbered, even with Flame Dancer by his side.

*Roll 1, flip a head* >.<

Discharge looked to be dead on target, but the Timberwolves had other ideas - they must've heard him shout.

The leader of the pack looked up, and upon seeing the Pegasus flying straight towards him, he dived to one side, causing Discharge to slam his Kukri into the ground. The final Timberwolf was quick to act on the stunned pony, and dived into his side, knocking him on his back and grazing his side with its claws.

Flame followed Discharge towards the ground and was about to attack one of the wolves until he noticed a timber wolf tackled Discharge, he quickly ran to where Discharge was being attacked and stabbed one end of his spear at the timber wolf's head.

@,

Seeing Discharge being attacked, Lost Knowledge had to think fast. Their leader still hadn't fully recovered from the crash earlier, and he could easily get seriously injured.

He charged forward, levitating the heaviest rock he could find and launching it at the timberwolf.

@,

At first, she was proud of herself for making that arrow damage the Timberwolf like that, but it all vanished the next minute. "Oh no, Discharge!" Night Song whispered to herself. Without a second thought, she took a another arrow out and drew it back to it's maximum length again and let it go. This time, she had aimed for the forehead of the one that had attacked Discharge.

@,

*Roll 4, flip a tail*

The Timberwolf is fast, and Flame Dancer running didn't help his aim too much, but it was fairly true to its target. The spear crunched into the back of the beast, causing it to howl in pain and collapse onto its front legs as it scrambled to get away.

@,

(I'm not doing too well, am I? xD)

*Roll 4, flip a tail* (hm?)

The rather large rock managed to strike the injured animal in its ribs, possibly breaking a few and knocking it onto one side. It was fairly badly wounded now, and would be easy to kill.

@@MagicalStarRain;

*Roll 4, flip a tail* - (seriously...what?)

As the wolf bellowed over on its side, the arrow wouldn't stand a chance at hitting its intended target. The wolf managed to claw a last effort of strength and stand up, ready to attack with its last breaths. The arrow thudded cleanly into its neck, causing it to fall limp and lifelessly to the ground next to Discharge.

"That was a little...too close" he gasped with a laugh as he rolled over, using his wings to push him onto his feet again. His Kukri was lodged a few feet away from him in the ground, but he couldn't risk grabbing it when there where two Timberwolves that had their eye on him. The loss of three of their pack didn't slow them down either, they where still coming strong.

Flame grinned and quickly moved on to one of the wolves that seemed to be looking at Discharge. He stabbed one end of his spear at its leg, causing it to yelp and stumble. He pulled his spear back and sent a powerful blow towards the timber wolfs head.

With his magic, Lost Knowledge lifted Discharge's kukri out of the ground and laid it at his (Discharge's) hooves.

"Be careful, you're still not at full strength after the crash."

He then hurled his machete at one of the remaining timberwolves, aiming the point straight at it's eye."

Maroon Sky struggled. He kept pulling magic from his horn and carefully spun them in the stone club. He tried to tune out the sound of combat around him, afraid that it would break his concentration. He cursed himself for not preparing the enchantment earlier.

When the enchantment finally done and the stone ungratefully started to radiate some serious heat, any solid object it would strike would instantly burst into flames. Maroon Sky opened his eyes. Two of the Timberwolves were already decapitated, one was crippled, and the remaining two were hot on Ardent. Without any delay Maroon Sky telekinetically launched his stone club to the remaining beasts.

@,

*Roll 6, Flip a tail*

The spear pierced straight into the back of the skull of the wolf, and the force was just shy of fatal. The wolf was clearly ready to die, as it loosely dazed around, tripping over its own feet.

@,

*Roll 1, Flip a head*

"I know, things aren't going to well for me are they?"

The machette hurled straight past the wolf and spun off harmlessly into the distance and out of sight, completely missing all intended and potential targets...

@@Starshine,

((OOC: lol spare a thought for me! I'm trying to keep up with it all))

*Roll 2, Flip a tail* :(

The club flew through the air harmlessly, landing a fair distance away on the ground on the other side of the battle. The heat was dangerously close to setting fire to the surrounding shrubbery, and if it wasn't moved quickly it would do.

Discharge picked up his Kukri, and this time with a little more thought he stepped in to the fight once more. His Kukri plunged into the neck of the injured Timberwolf, turning it into a pile of firewood. He then quickly spun around and threw the Kunai he kept under his left wing pouch, intending to strike the Timberwolf somewhere around the chest.

*Roll 2, Flip a head*

The Kunai flies directly over the Timberwolf harmlessly. But the attached rope became tangled in the branches of its back. Discharge lost his grip on the rope too, causing the Kunai to be lost until the wolf could be killed.

Maroon Sky sighed. Accuracy was never his strong point. He willed the enchantment to put out its own life. The enchantment silently complied, it quickly sucked in all the remaining flame, but the burnt grass and embers was still there. He would have to put it out after this. He couldn't help but to admire the resilience of this lone timberwolf. A cornered beast could be dangerous indeed. Maroon Sky unlatched his remaining stone club and immediately flung it to the last timberwolf. There was no time to enchant it, and by Celestia he hoped that at least this time it wouldn't miss.
