Many fan projects do not make it through production. As has been said in other threads, they often make it far just to have them pulled by the companies that own the copyright.

However, one very amazing and impressive project, Black Mesa

(Get it at Blackmesasource.com) has made it all the way through, since September of last year. Since Valve owns the copyright for Half-Life, do you KNOW what this means? It means that officially, Valve is the best company ever

Other companies have been known to allow fan work, and I love these companies (I <3 Bungie and Bethesda, seriously, you kick ass, so do you ID software), in supporting and even officially adopting fan made content.

Yeah! As you can tell, I love Bethesda too. And since last September!? And they haven't done anything!? Wow...well Hasbo didn't do anything about FiM at first so...wait, did they go out and say they approved of it?

Valve literally approves of it. Black Mesa is set to release on Valve's own game hoster (Steam) as well as where it's released now  so I'd say that's definitely approval.

Yes, and yes. I love when companies support and even promote fan made content. If only Hasbro could do the same thing. I definitely wish more companies would follow in Valve's footsteps and take fan made content as a means of promotion into consideration.

Yep, Valve is releasing due to it's approval on Steam Greenlight there. Since it was approved a while ago, (when games are approved they are brought to Valve's attention) they definitely approve of it.

Also, check out the trailer on the Steam Greenlight, if that doesn't make you see how amazing the project is, I don't know what will.

If only Hasbro was that cool. However, Hasbro is NOT that cool.

Valve is my favorite company ever. They made my two favorite PC games: Portal and TF2. I mean, who DOSEN'T like them?!

And they actually allowed fan work. Even though they can't count to three they're still awesome.

Damn, that is definitely the way ALL companies should go! I wish Hasbro was more like this, it would avoided all of the sh!t that's going on now.

Half-Life is Valve's best work IMO. It's so immersive. I heard they are developing Source 2 and a game to showcase it. I just hope that it's Half-Life 3.

Never tried Half Life. I'm gonna watch a walkthrough now, I heard it's good. Now, because the best poster on the forums has suggested it to me I shall try it.

Cool, if you want, play Black Mesa. It's free and it's a complete recreation with modern graphics and everything, Black Mesa won Best mod of 2012.

I like that too. Valve's official tools for this, like Source: Filmmaker are just over all great and I'm glad that they're around.

Also on the subject of Valve, this live-action Half-life machinima is pretty awesome!
