"Ok, now, seeing as we're going to head straight to the changeling kingdom with no side quests to track me down again..." Dox gave a little chuckle. "We need to get into pairs, one mare, one stallion in each. I say that me and Arrow are one, then Lost and Moonbeam. That would leave Nightfall and Chamois. We need to try and stick together, though."

Chamois stopped and looked up at Paradox, pulling a face.  You have got to be kidding me.  Chamois sighed quietly.  "Okay," she said, almost a bit too casually.  So, here I'm going on a adventure where I might get killed, I'm going to a changeling hive, and I'm also becoming...too...emotional...ish.   Chamois started towards Nightfall.  Nice desicion, Chamois.  Real nice.

 

Nightfall was startled by what Paradox had said. He must have seen them earlier. And when Chamois started moving towards him, he blushed, not sure if she would not pay attention to him or if she would. He tried to think positively, but that just led to hopes that Chamois would pay attention to him. He lowered his head as Chamois got a little closer.

"I'm really glad he did too. I... well, I guess it's best if I don't mention that yet. Not until I explain the rest, anyway. Look, are you sure everything is okay? Whatever's wrong, you can tell me."

Paradox nodded and walked side by side with Arrow. They slowly made their way to the exit of the garden, where Dox turned around and said, "Ok, everypony try and stay together. If we get separated, try and stick with your partner. Meet up at the edge of the forest if that happens, ok?" He then turned around again and exited the garden.

 

Arrow nodded and quickly ran up next to Paradox.

She quietly walked beside him, still feeling kinda bad she had made Shade run off. "Hey Dox...do you think Shade really will tell the other changelings about us ? I'm sorry for doing that...it was stupid of me."

We just need to get there, then we can deal with that little traitor once and for all..." He sighed a little. "I just wish she hadn't ran off, she would have been of great help to us..."

Like before...part of her worried that she would never see it again but she knew not to think that way so she pushed the thought from her mind and looked forwards. "You said that we need poison joke right ? I think there should be a patch of it somewhere arou-AH." She was cut off as she tripped on a large rock and fell face first into...you guessed it, Poison Joke.

"Is that it? You think you're holding us back? Moonbeam, you're not a burden, you've been really helpful. You were the one who figured out Shade was a changeling, you know the animals in the forest, you found us a path through. You've definitely helped us, and you're just as important to the group as anypony. Besides, at the very least, I like having you here; it keeps my spirits up because we get along so well and all, but also, it gives me... well, that ties into the thing I'll tell you about later. But the point is, you're a valuable member of the group and you're not holding us back."

That reassured her a little, but she still had her doubts. "Thanks, Lost Knowledge, that means a lot." At this point, she was really starting to get curious about Lost's secret that he would apparently share with her later.

 

"So, Lost Knowledge...um...why exactly can't you tell me about...whatever it is you want to tell me...until later?"

"So, how exactly do we plan to infiltrate the changeling hive?" she asked. "When we had Shade with us we could walk in under disguise, but I don't know what to do now."

He was worried that something horrible would happen to her because of the contact with the dreaded plants.

Arrow quickly crawled away from the plants and shook her head at Paradox. "I'm f-fine I just..." She looked down at her hooves and her eyes widened in surprise as a dark brown bark slowly made its way up her legs as if she was a tree.

After a moment it reached her shoulders and just kept spreading.

Paradox's eyes widened, too, and he took a step back. Wh-what do I do?! He attempted a magic barrier to try and stop it's progress, but it just kept moving. He didn't want to try and chip or break it off for fear of hurting Arrow. "Arrow, what should I do?!" He was extremely worried, but it seemed as though nothing could stop the bark from turning his marefriend into a wooden sculpture.

Arrow didn't speak as the bark spread over her head. Her mane and tail changed to what seemed to be thin twigs with leaves sprouting out here and there. After a moment...everything had stopped. She looked like a tree shaped like a pony, but luckily she could still move rather than being stuck in one position. "...buck." She said, looking down at her brown bark covered hooves.

Dox took a tentative step forward. He gently placed a hoof on her shoulder, saying, "Arrow, are... are you... alright?" He gently pulled her into a hug, noticing that instead of being rough, all of the bark covering her body was smooth, like somepony did it by hoof, sanding it down till it was like silk.

Arrow gulped, still staring down at her barky hooves. "I...y-yea." She said, her lip quivering ever so slightly...which looked rather strange considering her face was covered in bark. "I uh...found the poison joke." She said, looking up at Paradox. She was almost unrecognizable as the bark had covered her whole head, leaving two small indents where her eyes were, almost like a mask.

"I, uh... I can see that... quite clearly... although you did find it completely by accident. Or did you always want to be a tree (YAY)?" He asked, trying to lighten the mood. He knew it was a stupid thing that he just said, but he tried to get her to smile for him at least.

Somehow Lost had failed to notice until now that one of his companions appeared to be turning into a tree. He approached the now-wooden Arrow in surprise.

 

"What happened? I don't think I've ever seen something like this happen to anypony before. I don't think I've even heard of this."

Lost Knowledge's academic curiosity had been piqued, and now a volley of questions was inevitable.

 

"Really? I would have thought you were immune to plant toxins, being a dryad. No offense, but I must admit this is quite fascinating. Is it as hard as normal bark? Does it hamper your mobility at all? Is the bark covering your face interfering with your senses?"

Arrow's eyes widened slightly. "I would expect a dryad who's tree had been near poison joke...would probably be immune. But I have never really been around the stuff before...and, i'm...um...not really connected to...my tree......anymore." She said, looking down at her hooves, holding back tears. Even after all these years...Arrow still hadn't gotten over what had happened.

 

(OOC: For those of you who haven't read her back story. A few thousand years ago Arrow was separated from her tree by King Sombra and his evil crazy black magic...that's why she isn't bound to anything.)

Shade pased around the balcony thinking, she was getting some ideas on what to do, but she was also getting corrupted ideas, then she finally settled on one idea, she quickly made her way to the live stalk and absorbed the love out of 3 love kittens... Then she went to near by hill just outside the hive. She made a magic change orb appear and casted a spell at it. Then sends the orb strate to the everfree forest.

 

The orb appeared right infront of the ponies and dryad.

"Its...its alright." She said, looking up. "We need to keep going...we can fix this as soon as we get the chance but we are going to run out of daylight soon so we need to hu-" That's when the orb appeared. "Oh buck what now ?" She said, not really caring who heard. things were just getting crazier and crazier.

Paradox looked at Arrow sadly. Whatever had happened must have been terrible. He was getting ready to comfort her once again, but suddenly, a strange orb appeared in the midst of everypony. He backed away from it. "Stay away, everypony, it could be dangerous and probably is. Just leave it alone."
