gaming This MMO made me so freaking mad

So I recently remembered this silly but really fun MMO that I last played years ago. It's called puzzle pirates. At first look it looks like a crappy kids MMO, But after playing for a while it turns into a great game with so many unique qualities. So I when to go play it again and I realize the changed something in the game. I went to buy stuff for my house and I find out in order to buy anything you have to pay both in game money and real money or have a 10 USD a month membership. That is the single worst game mechanic I have ever seen! I was so pissed! Really I'm fine with putting inconveniences to make you want to buy there real money currency. But really, you can't buy ANYTHING! I really liked that game too :( .

This is why I don't play MMO's. I'll be honest, I used to play Runescape a lot, and in order to do anything fun or interesting, you have to get a membership.

I can understand that. Having a payment needed after so long of not needing one is stupidly bogus.

Though, I personally don't have a problem with memberships. It is a horrible thing when they add them in out of no where for things, but in the case of something like Runescape (already known about from the get go) I find no problem with them.

Damn Pay2win games, they make all of us mad.

Let me recommend you a F2P game, it's called S4 League, i'm sure you heard about it.

Like any other F2P, you can pay real-life money to get cool items, but you can get these items too without paying for them, you have to use in-game money instead, maybe not with the same effects but it still works.

Real-life money exclusive items are mostly looks or bonuses for different gamemodes, but nothing unfair.

If you want to get a specific weapon/cloth for your character with a specific bonus in it, you have a mode in the shop that you can bet money, and random items with random effects will appear, you will get one randomly. Take note, effects that you can get by paying with real life money ALSO appear in the betting mode, so you can get even better stuff than a "premium" user with luck.

The game is not a MMO, it's an online shoot'em'up like GunZ, in my opinion better than GunZ because of all the gamemodes and weapon/cloth availabilities and it has a much more smooth and faster gameplay.

I generally stopped caring about MMO's, since most of the free-to-play ones are usually pay-to-win (e.g. Combat Arms,) supreme freemium (e.g. RuneScape, Dofus,) bad WoW clones (almost every fantasy-themed 3D MMORPG,) bad Counter-Strike clones (almost every MMOFPS,) etc...

The only MMO I play these days is Final Fantasy XI, which I'm sure is probably going to die as soon as FFXIV: A Realm Reborn comes out.

It's been awhile since I played it, but Vindictus was a pretty solid F2P mmo with no real P2W element. Knowing Nexon though, that has likely changed. There is also Star Trek Online which is quite fun and you can easily get cash shop currency through short farming sessions daily, though all the equipment is only earn-able through actually playing the game, and the cash shop is mostly cosmetic save for the highest level ships which I should add are not needed to be competitive even in PVP.
