Can't change avatar

Size has to be 150x150. Also, If it's a really long looping GIF, the site may not want to host it. Try uploading it to a different site (tinypic or something) and using the URL function.

The size has to be 150x150? Oh snap...

Anyways, try uploading straight from your PC then (unless you did that already). If that doesn't work, I can't imagine what's wrong.

Same thing happened here. I don't think my image size was right.

Now, instead of a failure, it takes forever to upload.

One other alternative is to use Gravatar, that will also use it on any WordPress blogs that ask for an e-mail address.

Maybe the file size is too big.

Only other thing I can think of is file size. It seems like its unlimited, since I can't find anything anywhere about a limit, but check to see what it is. In Windows, right-click the file, then click properties. On the "General" tab, check the "size on Disk." Mine is at 44 Kb.

The directions seem really generic and cruddy, "Once uploaded, you can adjust the cropped image.Recommend an image 200px or larger" Almost nothing of use in the change avatar window.

I keep getting an error that just says it failed to be changed.

This site's really strict with the image dimensions. I had to sit through 20 minutes of "failed to upload image" for my avatar to show up, lol.

The exact limits are 150x150 and up to 100 KB, unless you are a donor, which grants you slightly larger limits. But any image within those limits should work flawlessly. I've changed the text shown on the avatar editor accordingly - I agree that IP.Board's default text there is pretty crummy, and the "200px or larger" part isn't a very good recommendation.

The limits still apply if you do this, as IP.Board will copy the image from the URL to my server.

I see too much people with problems like this.

I just upload pictures that look like squares, and the resolution my picture is 327x342, doesn't apply to the limits.

Unless it's animated, i've never uploaded an animated picture to this site. I hope that helped.

is the 150 x 150 the exact , minimum or maximum ?

So, its the maximum you can do.

Anything under 150x150 will work just as well. When you resize the picture though, make sure you scale it properly, or else it will look distorted and strange.

Images larger than 150x150 but under 100 KB in size will be resized to fit the dimensions limit, so these don't always fail. But anything over 100 KB is guaranteed to fail.
