(OOC: Thank you for reaffirming that you were, in fact, drunk. Sorry for being gone awhile. I'm here now.)

Shooting Star's spirits lifted a little bit when Slide Grease came through the door and started feeling her forehead to check for warmth. Silly pony, she thought. 'I don't express my feelings...sure. You're just a big softie.'

But then, maybe that was because she was tired. She hadn't moved for about an hour. She couldn't feel her hind hooves anymore.

"I'm okay, Slide," she yawned. Then frowned. "Don't worry about me, though, worry about Windy Runner. He got hurt pretty bad! There was this..." She swallowed; telling another pony how Windy Runner had gotten hurt was still something that put a rock in her withers, but...big filly, Shoots. "After I ran away he went to look for me, but I went too far, and he got hurt. There was this branch stuck in his barrel. It was...pretty bad. Nurse Redheart says he's still asleep, and she won't let anypony..."

"HELLO? SOMEPONY? ANYPONY?!"

Shoots leapt to all fours. "WellIfHe'sAwakeICan'tWakeHimUpSoWeCanSeeHimRight?" Waiting for nopony to approve her she blasted into the hospital wing like a comet, leaving the doors wide open. She didn't stop until she caught side of Windy Runner, covered in bandages and tubes, and sighed halfway to a sob.

"Oh, married? That's interesting. I've never heard of a married couple being in the circus before.", Rockshire replied, seeing that Slide Grease had abandoned them both. Now, they were alone... By themselves.

"So, uh...", she tried to think of an idea, but mainly just shuffled her hooves against the carpet.

@@Umbreon@,

((Aaaaaand... An interruption emerges in the shape of Cascade.))

As much as she enjoyed sitting there alone with her hooves in the water, Cascade had done far too much of exactly that recently. Here, at home in the mountains, out on those tropical islands...

Cascade almost leapt to her hooves, and trotted back inside, feeling awkward. Her hooves were glistening. Well, they were still wet, but they seemed to have a slight, scintillating aura about them because of it. She wiped them off extra carefully on the carpet just inside the back door, and then trotted towards the front door, having decided to talk to these two new ponies, rather than the only others in the room, one of which was Ocean, who knew of her wings.

Anyhoo... One of them was a orange-haired mare, and the other, a fiery pegasus colt. She peered at him with a curious innocence.

"So is that nurse gonna show up or should I just wait...? I knew it was a stupid idea to try yelling for somepony... Wait, are those hoofsteps? Somepony IS coming! What a great idea to yell! Wow, that nurse is coming really fast. Maybe I should apologize when she comes in for worrying her so much over..." And then Shooting Star barged into the room, and Windy's higher thought process petered out and died with surprising speed.

"She's even more pretty in  the light than she was in the dark" Was the first thought that Windy had as he saw Shoots standing in the doorway.

"Shoots! Are you ok? Is anything wrong with you? How long has passed? What's going on? I'm so confused! Can you please tell me what happened?" Taking a moment to compose himself, he added in a much calmer and lighter tone,  "And good morning Shoots, you look lovely today. Won't you come in?"

Flame smiled slightly...she was rather cute when she was nervous. "There are actually quite a few married couples in the circus...I met a few who do something on roller blades...there is somepony who does something called the Russian Bar...he is one of the ponies who holds the bar while the other's bounce on top of it...anyway, he's married and I think his wife and kid travel around with him." He said, only just noticing another mare slowly make her way over towards them...but before he could speak another mare trotted over from the couch.

Ocean watched Cascade walk in from outside...presumably the pool.

She looked at the mare who had sat down next to her and stood up. "Excuse me." She said, walking over to Ocean.

She tapped her on the shoulder. "Forgive my interruption...but...Cascade. Could I just...quickly...talk to you ?" She asked.

@@Windy Scamper,

Shoots giggled in relief to see Windy Running His Mouth. He couldn't be that bad off. "Not quite morning, handsome."

She propped her hooves up on the edge of the hospital bed, careful not to make anything shake. "You were out for a little bit. Lyra and Bon-Bon helped me carry you to the hospital and the doctor says you're going to be just fine in a few days," she lied. "Uh...and I'm not the only one here to see you! Slide Grease ran over as soon as he heard what happened.

"We can come see him now, Slide! He's over here!"

She trotted around to the edge of the bed to sit closer to Windy Runner's face. "You look like hay," she blurted out.

Wait, why would you say that? You are definately the worst sepcial somepony ever!

"I mean, I..." For all the words she knew, none seemed to help. So instead, she leaned in and gave a mute nuzzle to the only unbandaged part of her neck she could find.

That was better.

"So...actually, maybe it is morning." Shoots looked around until she found a clock. It was half past eleven. "Heh. I bet the party's still going though. I heard celebrations like that go pretty late."

Hearts and Hooves day was over in half an hour. The thought saddened Shooting Star more than she would have thought. What would happen when the clock struck midnight? Would her pegasi-driven chariot turn back into a pumpkin, and her glass hoofcards back into a pile of cheap invitations and red sillo cups?

After all the heart-shaped decorations, and extra-frosted candy, and all the music was gone, what would be left, she wondered? Lyra's warning haunted her again. How much did "special somepony" mean? She was special now, but the question was, could one night make her a fi--

Egh. Too weird to think about.

"Really? Then I must get into the circus a lot more then.", Rockshire joked, adding a hint of a laugh to her joking.

"Uh... You want to get something to drink? I haven't gotten anything since rushing over here from my sculpture...", she said, a tiny bit ashamed. "That being said, I'm also feeling famished..."

@@Dawn Stripes,

Windy shook his head softly to clear it; he had lost control of his brain when Shoots had nuzzled him. "How in the hay does she do that? I've been nuzzled by a fair number of mares before, but none of them stunned me like that... Mental Note, learn to keep control of higher brain processing when Shoots does that."

Chuckling quietly, Windy said, "Although the party may still be going on, I really doubt I'll be able to make it back in time to enjoy the rest of it with you. I feel really bad for pulling Slide away from his party though, that can't be fair for him."

Seeing Shoot's face cloud over in thought,  Windy cocked his head in confusion. Shoots didn't even seem happy right now, which was understanding given the circumstances, but still, she looked downright upset. Knowing from past... unpleasant experiences that poor communication was the fastest way to drive a filly away, Windy decided to be proactive for once and try and be in-tune with his special somepony's feelings. As in-tune as a tactless and dense pegasus like himself could be, at least.

"Shoots, you look bummed, which I can understand, but is this because of what happened and the fact that I'm run full of tube now, or is something else bothering you? Because I'll say it right now, I hope you're not feeling guilty over what happened to me, that wasn't your fault at all. Please tell me what's bothering you, I want to help, because I hate to see my special somepony looking sad." Windy pleaded

Shoots buried her head against the clean linen at the edge of the mattress when Windy called her his 'special somepony' again. Might as well enjoy it while it lasted, in case she woke up tomorrow and everything was gone.

There was at lot on her mind, and it couldn't hurt to get to talk to him about it; it was really sweet, considering. There was one thing Slide had mentioned to her in the hall....

"I'm really glad you're--gonna' be fine," she choked, then took a deep breath to steady her smile. "But I...uh..." I'm already afraid of losing you. And I'm afraid if I say it I'll make it true. How sad it that? I mean, I barely even know you---

She nuzzled him again, this time under his chin. It was the best thing she could think to do for him when he didn't look like moving would be a good idea--guess watching him punt a ball is out of the cards for a while--and she needed to reaffirm his solid, physical presence.

"Uh, Windy Runner. Just how much did you have to drink at the party?"

"Thank you, Flame. How did you know that I absolutely love vegetables?", she asked, smiling while beginning to gnaw a bit on one the carrots.

"I couldn't go on with eating junk food. I always stick to a personal diet of veggies and fruit. And with drinks, it's either anything with fruit in it, or just simple water.", Rockshire said, sipping a bit of her punch, a tad surprised that she could taste some sugar in it. "Other than that, I'm pretty lean, if I say so myself."

"How much have I had to drink? Uh, I dunno, a smaller amount than I normally would at a party of that nature, I suppose. When I first came in, I certainly had a good amount, but after I started talking to you, I weaned off the cider to keep a clear head, since I didn't want to embarrass myself. Which didn't really work out according to plan as we both know. But I guess I had a fair amount, but I'm a heavyweight, and have a lot of drinking experience at parties and post-game celebrations, so this wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Why do you ask Shoots?"

@,

Shoots relaxed visibly. "Okay. I just asked because..."

First of all, I have no idea what I'm doing. She wanted to ASK Windy how these things normally went, what if he just laughed at her? How long did being a special somepony last? One of the mares from Wall Wash had been talking about a date she went on with a stallion from Los Pegasus, and it had sounded really fun, but she made it sound like it only lasted one night.

She wanted Windy Runner to stay in front of her. Close enough to touch. Even more than that, she wanted to always be able to count the pony she'd met tonight among her friends--just the way he was. Why she was so particular about that, she wasn't entirely sure.

Something came to her--another plan.

"Hey, Windy?" She snuck close to the ear that lay against his pillow without touching it, dropping her voice, pulling all of the pet-name out of her special somepony's monicker. "You never answered my question.

What is a Pinkie Promise?"
