Arylett Charnoa 4,919 April 10, 2013 Share April 10, 2013 (edited) @@Zoop, Honestly, I can see why someone would be of the opinion that Globals > Sectionals. Why? Look at this guide right here. The entire thing gives the impression of very specific ranks, even calling some of the Globals "Team Leaders" of sections, implying that they are in charge of everything that goes on in that. If you really want to correct that impression, I recommend rewriting this guide. (And removing that really goddamn confusing diagram. Seriously, it makes my head spin and I don't understand it. @_@ It also leads to the illusion of the fact that Globals are higher than Sectionals. And also, that Arylett hates charts. But more on that never.) I'm sure you're probably already discussing rewriting this entry, but yeah. If you guys were trying to give the impression before that Globals and Sectionals were equals, it certainly was not obvious and even contradictory to established information. I can see why Evilshy thinks what he thinks. Anyway, good changes. I thought the whole ranked structure was silly since the moment I left, and made things overly complicated. Other forums I had been to made no such silly distinctions, and just had Admins and Mods, which is honestly the way I think it should be. Also, too many colors. If I was a new user, my head would be spinning for all these complicated color doodads all over the place. I can see why Evilshy thinks what he thinks. It is reorganized, reworded and majorly rewritten. Take a closer look :3 Asides from the diagram, which is still being determined of how to be reworked, that entire page was updated by me, yesterday, directly following the staff group changes. Zoop 8,384 April 10, 2013 Share April 10, 2013 @, you make good points - to be completely honest, the blame for the whole global>section perspective ultimately does lay with us. Many of the things we were doing served to reinforce that perspective, all the way to how the user title listing was organized at the bottom of the index - which was made semi-random not only to avoid the perception that section mods are lower than globals, but also to destroy the perception that Poniverse Staff are below moderators in general. As we move forward with some of our plans, we'll have more and more staff members that aren't involved in moderation, but are at the same time just as important to the community as a whole. Likewise, I agree that the color situation was a bit silly. The entire thing looks much cleaner now, and is far less offensive on the eyes... though I regret that my proposal to make admins pink was shot down nearly universally. As for the chart... we are going to be reworking that. Right now it's... not... truly representative of how things work, especially given that some of the people on it aren't really involved in MLP Forums operations at all.
Evilshy 5,093 April 10, 2013 Share April 10, 2013 It is rewritten. Take a closer look :3 Asides from the diagram, which is still being determined of how to be reworked, that entire page was rewritten by me, yesterday. Doesn't do much to change the ideas and structure it conveys. Also, it still has me listed as an RPW mod. I think it stems from the fact that Globals focus is more akin to a management position, while Sectionals are the ones who go out and do the things. Also, it's pretty ingrained into our culture that more power = higher rank. But this is getting dangerously close to a semantic argument, and I have a strict self-imposed policy against arguing semantics. 1 Signature now 99% less edgy! I think it makes quite a bit of difference. Asides from the official lists, the majority of this lies upon how we organize ourselves in what we do, which will continuie to be worked on as Zoop said. So, agree to disagree :3 And changed.
Nohbdy 4,108 April 10, 2013 Share April 10, 2013 Ah, I had wondered about the titles. I admit that, prior to this thread, I was under the impression that global mods outranked section mods (not that I wouldn't congratulate a section mod who was reassigned as a global mod). Good call with the Poniverse Staff replacing Community Stewards, too. It should help newbies get a better idea of what they did. Still feels hella weird how the PS now have old global mod colors, though.
