Subforum for Fan Clubs

Tia Is Best Pony

Recommended Posts

I can't recall this being suggested, but I do remember holding a personal conversation with Zoop, before, and he said clubs aren't really something they're interested in.

Although, that was more directed towards an actual club feature, rather than a sub-forum...

However, I think it still applies. There's really no need. I don't think they're all that popular (maybe I'm wrong) or in-depth discussion-producing enough to really add to a new sub-forum.

From what i am seeing, there are some fan clubs on here that have some activity, but there are much more fan clubs being made almost as if it's a band-wagon.

Like I think (as an example) the anime fanclub has decent activity, where as many of the ones being made such as Zecora fan club doesn't. Fan clubs are being made because someone else came up with the idea. And now there are fan clubs popping up for every little thing.

I think that because majority of them are not popular or very active, making a sub-forum directory for this may be wasted effort. There are better things the energy/time could be used for than making fan clubs a sub-forum.

Apple Bloom: Completely different topic, but what do you guys think about the pony fan club threads? I usually add them to the main hub when new ones are created, but I've noticed a lot of them being created lately. Some of them don't even have responses. Should we have some sort of policy on them?

~Chaotic Discord~: Forums that make an official, legit system for organizing club threads usually give them their own subforum so it's far easier to keep track of, organize and manage them. Since we tend to be conservative with those, I'm not sure.

Quite amazing that the day after, an actual suggestion thread for this pops up. I'm honestly not sure. Clubs have been getting more popular over time, but we're definitely not at the chocking point for making a new subforum. Probably preferable to leave them be for now.

I'd totally join a club for Pinkie Pie lovers or something like that, haha. But naaahh. I don't like this idea to be honest.

Due to a large number of these being created recently, and them becoming generally more active than I've ever seen them be, I support this idea entirely. These tend to feed off of each other as well. When one club gets revived, it reminds other fans of clubs for other ponies and the result was manageable in the past, but now I think it's causing clutter in Sugarcube.

Is there really any point to making a full board for them if there's already an unobtrusive index for them? I don't really see the benefit it would afford.

I hate to sound like a spoilsport, but I think the test for creating a new board ought be a difficult one to pass. The twilicorn board was added for the sake of fencing off discussions that were starting to annoy the heck out of a lot of people while at the same time giving the forum a decent SEO boost for related searches, the Equestria Girls board added partially for the same reason, and partially because it's going to be a new and potentially significant FiM spin-off, etc.

Im not against adding new boards (heck, I proposed one myself), but they have to really be sold hard to me.

I started it YESTERDAY, give it a little time, patience is a virtue.

I have noticed with fanclubs though that they do tend to have a spike of activity and then die down for a bit until someone decides to rez them. I rezzed the Applejack and Twilight fanclubs after I saw that someone rezzed the Rainbow Dash fanclub and then they saw a bit of a spike for a while which caused other ones to pop up like the Cutie Mark Crusaders fanclub which had massive activity and the Luna fanclub I started did well for a while a still gets the occasional post. I think a subforum might be a good idea because it might make these fanclubs a bit easier to find which might increase the amount of posts in them as I am sure there are people that still don't know about some of them as this site is huge.

The way I see it, the fan clubs are little more than a way of sorting general discussion. I don't see why they need to be their own subforum.

Hello!

Think about it. How many ponies there are? Lots, and lots. That would mean, that lots and lots of fanclubs would have to be made for each of the ponies... And that is a little spammy in my opinion... There are some clubs already in the forum lounge, i think they do the job. smile.png

Plus, there would always be a possiblity for "Club wars" to spark. Invading other club threads, and just wrecking havoc on them! tongue.png

If you look at the OP's in the fanclub threads you will find out that a lot of these clubs have been around for quite some time, especially the ones for the mane 6 and I am yet to see any kind of flaming or "club wars" as you call them in any of them. The closest I have seen to that was this Fluttershy haters club, but it was preemptively locked by the mods before any sort of flame war could start. I am not denying it is a possibility but those situations are exactly what the report function on this site is for.

I think this is a good idea because on the other forums I am on, they both have Fan Club subforums and I feel that it's a great way to talk to people who have the same interests as you and the same love for that thing as you do.

However, there are only 6 or 7 fanclubs that are active daily, but they are active quite frequently monthly.
