Need ideas for fanfic

Haven't posted here in a while!

 

I am looking to make a fanfic, but I am running into a few problems.

 

I need some ideas.

 

Fellow bronies, will you please give me a list of ideas that isn't overused when it comes to a fanfic?

There are a few which I am interested about, but I would like to see other people's opinions too, but I will look into it as soon as possible.

I would want the basis to be somewhat of a mystery type fanfiction, with some crossovers. I would want it to be made into more chapters so I can expand.

Okay, here's a simple idea you can try out.

 

A character, whether it be OC or already made, accidentally stumbles into something that they're not supposed to.  That's the truth about magic and other magical things that exist.  Curiosity getting the better of the character, he/she/it continues going down the rabbit hole, just to see how deep it goes.

 

Usually, I personally write HiE stories, so I would've had a human stumble upon it by accident, and having a different thought pattern than humans, knows what to look for and sees things differently.  But that's just me.

 

What can you do?  Maybe he finds out how a unicorn truly does magic, and yet the unicorns never knew and the info to this was always suppressed for some strange reason?  Maybe he comes across some magical artifacts that allow him to do things others cant, which divulges into other forms of magic that hasn't been seen in so long no one knows of them?  Think runes, alchemy, or other things you can think of.  He keeps digging into the mystery of everything while trying his best not to be seen doing it.

 

Does this idea interest you?

Yeah, sort of interests me, but seems that it's been overused. I have read a lot of fanfics, and most of them are sort of like that.

Then all you need to do is put your own twist on it.  Maybe it involves the griffins and minotaurs originally having this type of magic, but it was long ago suppressed and  Celestia doesn't want anyone finding out.

 

Would that help add in the extra twist?  Surely no one's done something like that, and if they have, it's rare to see.  You can easily write your own variation of it.

Just an advice, keep asking "what if" as you think about the plot. First, determine the main plot. You can do it by asking "what if" to yourself. What if Celestia disappear, etc. Then ask "what if" again. What if there's a pony who's accidentally forced to go to an adventure to find Celestia? Ask again. What if the pony meets an old friend during his adventure? Keep asking. What if he falls in love with this old friend? Ask again and again. What if this old friend betrays his love? What if this betrayal leaves the pony heart-broken and he forgets his quest? What if the mare comes back to him? What if the stallion doesn't trust her anymore? What if the mare sacrifices herself to save the depressed stallion?

 

That's, a simple advice from me.

Its just a "What if?" but its very a interesting one to see in motion, What if magic just STOPS working? and i mean, AT ALL, no pony gets new cutie marks, the sun and the moon stops moving, discord can do shit, changelings are dying of starvation and so on, all magic related activities just STOPS and no one knows why this happened, in fact there's absolutely no reason why it stopped working, the day that it stopped was no diferent than the others, it just happened.

I really want to see that happening, since that world is so magic centered they won't know what to do without it, hell, discord will loose his shit just by this.

 

EDIT: In fact, now that i think about it, all cutie marks would disappear with this, also all alicorns would just return to their original forms too, and twilight would be compleately useless xD, HOLY SHIT THIS IS INTERESTING! im kinda regreting giving this idea away now xD

Wow that is a good idea =)

 

I'm going to suggest one more, even though it could be (or not) overused somehow or... well... nevermind... squeak....

 

It is the similar idea to preveous one, actually, but could be improved in some kind of advanture/sad(tragic)/detective story. What if a certain unicorn will come in emmm... kinda paralel dimension, with the similar history, similar events, similar rules, but one exception - there is no unicorns for some reason.

 

I haven't think about this idea for a long, cuz have a fanfiction to finish, but it seems at least... thrilling. I thought about overused "terrable accident on a magic field" with Twilight Sparkle, so she find herself there. She could find her old friends there... or not... or perhaps they will hate her, becouse she is unknow mystery creature, that they are used to fright their foals with... or she just seems wierd?... Why there is no unicorns? Was they there? Are princesses know anything about it? Is draconequues know anything about it? How Twilight gonna adapt to this place? How will she return? Will she returned? Shall she returned? Is there...

 

Oh... nevermind that is just... bad idea ...
