TheMarkz0ne 962 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 You think the show would have been possible back then. or we didn't have the technology back then to produce that kind of animation. You think MLP would have blended perfectly with the other cartoon cartoons
Steel Crescent 841 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 Thats an interesting question.I'm not really sure if they could pull off the look they do for the show now in 1999/2000.But it would probably do well, just not as well as it does now.
hawkflame 3,313 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 I'm trying to think, though, if the Brony audience would have been there like it is today. Internet forums and message boards were big, but they weren't *as* big or ubiquitous as they are now. Believe me, I was in college then (the first time around) and well into anime fandom. Back then, the internet was still something of a new thing for a lot of people. For bandwith reasons, avatar sizes were limited (if there were avatars) as were images in sigs. And no Youtube and no Deviantart to spread the Brony culture? It would have been a very, very different situation for the fans back then. Hell, no one had the bandwidth to upload episodes back then. And how many people watch the show online as opposed to on television? 1 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
Harmonic Revelations 8,837 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 Fascinating question, the answer is that yes, the show would have been successful, but it wouldn't have had as much internet culture around it. Although that was pretty much THE age of forums and the like, they still were not as big as they are today. Also, OP you seem to make a lot of hypothetical threads about how things or times could be different, do you have a TARDIS?
~Silver Essence~ 2,625 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 To be honest, almost! Reason why? Well, the powerpuff girls existed at around that time, and was both appealing to little girls and boys. So if this was around, there could be a big chance, but the fandom would be different at that era in time...
Argumedies 1,748 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 (edited) I doubt it. Like its been pointed out. The internet wasn't the same and cartoon network has a nasty habit of squashing fandoms then yanking the rug from under their feet I know they do have fandoms of their cartoons but they would have never allowed it to have gone as far as Hasbro/HUB has. And I seriously doubt it would have gone on to a second season if CN was in charge Edited May 1, 2013 by Argumedies
Rain Dance 132 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 I think that the animation would've been possible, but no i don't think that the Fandom would be ever so big as it is at this day. Wow that got to exactly 100 characters This Amazing Signature Made By Miss Cloud Chaser. Judge my English and get Hell all brought over ya! Anadu Kune 668 May 1, 2013 Share May 1, 2013 Maybe. Power Puff Girls was quite popular despite its "girly" aesthetic. I think it would have been just as much a phenomenon if the internet was as structured then as it is today. I started watching mlp due to a combination of factors. I tend focus on a friend at a convention, but I had seen clips of it before hand and seen various people online mention it. Perhaps I might have been less inclined to watch it if I hadn't seen those. Maybe it was those that spurred me to watch it in the end. Then again its hard to tell I tend to watch a lot of cartoons I probably would have gotten to mlp eventually.
