Shanks 10,816 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 shoulda made that clear, sorry I knew what you meant I was sort of agreeing and adding on what you said because I thought it was important to bring up it looks like I was the one who didn't make things clear enough. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
FireBird- 9 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 The fandom has indeed declined... I believe it will aways have up and downs as seasons begin and end. I just hope it never get off its rails.
Fhaolan 4,484 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 Given that we seem to get this exact same topic once a week ever since the end of Season 2 (and maybe before that, but that's when I showed up on the forum), It's started to get a bit wearing. No, the fandom is not declining. The problem is that the internet acts as an echo-chamber where people can congregate with other like-minded people and re-enforce each other's biases in a far faster and more efficient manner than older fandoms did. So you'll get very loud segments proclaiming the death of the fandom, and all they hear is agreement. Then they'll spin out into other forums and proclaim that 'everyone knows' that the fandom is dying, and why are you all still here? Get out while you can, before Hasbro comes and claims your very SOULS! It's all nonsense. Attendance at various brony-cons and meetups are still increasing, various forums are still increasing in membership and traffic. Some people just get a kick out of being miserable and want to share that misery with others.
~/XC- BRONY\~ 310 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 People aren't into the show? Lol, no, bro. People are -too- into the show. They care -too- much about the show and that's why we have two freakin' forums about Twilight with wings and another about High School ponies, with people at each others' throats in each of them We seem to have these 'oh noes things are bad' topics periodically. In the end it just comes down to drama, which is always there. This year we've had a run of intense developments coming up; the big dramatic cliffhanger change for Twilight and the Equestria Girls project have been massive incoming changes for a while now (they've been in development a long time), and just happened to hit us not long after Fighting is Magic died, and people were still recovering from their pointless drama fests. The fandom is as big, creative, active and all-around there as it's always been. Drama clouds up everything and messes it up, but it always goes up and down, allowing for things to settle again. No worries. Best way to put it^ I havent been a brony for more than a year yet, so i cant really say anything because i came in at mid season 3, but i feel like my love for the show has only gotten stronger, mainly because of the people on here and others that make the show more than a show 2 SIgnature by Reverie
Lisa 5,553 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 I'm probably going to receive hate for this, but I don't believe we'll ever go back to the "golden age" of our community. Each day, more and more people are becoming fans of My Little Pony, and when you think about it; that is a lot of people. And out of all those people, you're going to get some stupid individuals. Each day a dumb person is joining our fandom, going around the internet making our fandom look pathetic.
~Master~ Button Mash 2,307 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 In my opinion the "former glory" is still there, just buried below a combination of things: the increase of the community size, as well as the drama. IMO the drama is actually rather isolated, and only the jimmies of a few are really rustled. The problem? Those with said rustled jimmies are really bucking loud. The fact that this drama is happening between seasons probably doesn't help. But like many have said, it will die down. Our community won't fail as long as there's dedicated people like those in this forum to see it through. FoxyCryptid 4,330 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 Yes, but who is to say that the MLP fandom will end up as bad as the Star Wars, Star Trek and Sonic fandoms? Bad seeds can cause problems but so can people who expect a fandom to be perfect and panic when they find out it isn't like many people have done over the last few months. I never did, I said it will take time for things to calm down because we're still recovering from the massive growth season 3 brought. The S3 premiere the most watched cartoon airing in history. Freewave 1,145 June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 (edited) It's weird almost all of the first wave of bony musicians are gone and that really has effected how much i value what the community around me does. Technically a lot of the second and third wave may be as talented or more then those who came before them but losing NACP, PPS, Alex S, Makkon, Glaze, Jackleapp, Silva....it just seems to have lost a lot of that initial magic and musical presence. I can't think of many scenes or genres where the second and third wave captures the same attention (Post-Grunge and Post-Britpop, yeesh) and i think brony music sadly is no different. I can't rattle off my recent favorite community tracks like i used to in the old days. Edited June 2, 2013 by Freewave 1 I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it.. Here's My YouTube..I have several albums on Bandcamp and Pony.FM. Check out the 20+ Musician project Maressey which I am running. That's puzzling, because Silva posted something only a couple of weeks ago, and the last thing I saw from Glaze was only a couple of months ago. Are you sure they've 'left forever' and aren't just busy?

Are you sure they've 'left forever' and aren't just busy? Glaze evidentally (all hearsay from other musicians) is suffering both from combined laziness and writer's block. We really haven't seen a lot from him for awhile. Silva is pulling his older catalog (buy now or its gone) and says he might do some tracks in the future but is otherwise stepping back.... Fhaolan 4,484 June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 Glaze evidentally (all hearsay from other musicians) is suffering both from combined laziness and writer's block. We really haven't seen a lot from him for awhile. Silva is pulling his older catalog (buy now or its gone) and says he might do some tracks in the future but is otherwise stepping back.... I'd rather they step back and slow down than burn out. Too many creative types fall into the entitlement trap in the other direction, believing that they 'owe' their fans something and work themselves to mental exhaustion and some even to breakdown. Or that they feel that they've invested so much time and money into their art already that they 'must' do it instead of having something to actually say with that art. Too many people expect the creative to just constantly generate content, just for their consumption. It's unreasonable, unfair, and in many instance just rude. As a musician yourself, you've probably experienced this. Or if you haven't yet, I'm sure you will soon. Don't fall into that trap. It's a bad place to be, no matter how attractive it is to be 'needed'.
~StatesTheOblivious~ 1,795 June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 We will be like the friggin' Star Trek-fandom. Years after the series finale, we will still do all the stuff we do now. And... Wait, new-Trek-vs.-old-Trek-style debates between FiM and gen. 5. *shudders* Okay that's the only, potentially, uncomfortable thing. I may be a brony for just about three and a half months now, but I don't get the feeling that we are 'unproductive', or 'weak'. And don't Forget: there are at least two things in the future that will not until then test the fandoms strength. Equestria Girls and Season 4. If season four is good, I bet, many will come back. Submissive, maybe even 'obsequious'. And Equestria Girls... Well that's another story. "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." - W. I. Thomas & D. S.
