She sighs, "There isn't really something set I can tell you. Members of our religion follow a Path to our afterlife called the Eternal Night. When one joins the religion, they are sometimes called Wayward Wanderers, in reference to the Path. 'What the night seeist, it keepith in its own wisdom' It matters not to a member of the faith what you've done before joining the Path, what happens after defines them. Many see it as a chance to start over."

She sighs, "After the initial clear slate, it is very difficult to redeem yourself. Most believe it impossible, because they haven't read the texts. 'The night sees all in it's mercy, and judges acts with her wisdom.' Just a few things you should keep in mind so you don't have to re-redeem yourself. Do not kill without purpose. Observe one midnight a month, preferably the full moon. Protect your brothers, your family, and your holdings. Remember your virtues.

There are many positions in our order, though plenty of them are filled. As a high priestess, I am fit to bestow those. In dealing with the faith, obey your superiors." She looks him over, "I can think of a few positions you'd fill nicely. There is a ritual for this I can perform, in which we could be anywhere and you would be recognized. But the only ritual you have to observe is the monthly Moonlight. The official name for observing the night past midnight. There are a few rituals that I have to perform, including one particularly nasty one that involves my dagger, that you neither need to observe nor know of. An interesting factoid; all priestesses are trained to defend themselves." She sighs again, "I am not especially good at fighting. Much better at surviving. And now I'm babling. Listen to me, like I've already gone salt-and-pepper," she giggles nervously.

Cosmo shook his head when she mentioned him joining one of the official positions. "Thank you for the offer, but I only receive orders from Princess Luna. I don't respond well to the concepts of rank or chain of command. I won't reject the words of ponies who know better than me, but in the end I will decide my own actions."

"So you believe in an immidiate karma reset, all deeds good or bad are ignored and only present and future actions matter... That is an interesting idea. I have done many good deeds in the past few years but I can't really say whether or not they're equal to... to my years with my clan."

"As I said before, I am content to discover the afterlife when I reach it. However, The Eternal Night does sound like a peaceful place to spend eternity. Is there an initiation ritual I should go through because I wish to join this practice," Cosmo told her. Altiar was still voicing his approval on serving a pony with religious beliefs and practices. Cosmo grinned and added, "For the record, I think surviving counts as defending yourself very effectively."

Lyth shrugs, "There is a ritual, and it will take time for me to prepare. However, I urge you to reconsider my other offer; it is less to bind you to the religion and more so that you aren't religiously obligated to obey any street-level priest on all spiritual matters. For now, I need some time to myself to prepare your ritual." She had faced away from him so he couldn't see the bright coloring of her cheeks at his compliment. She disguised is as looking out the window.

She disguised is as looking out the window.

(Cosmo's killing time until your ritual is ready.)

Cosmo nodded and gave Lyth some space. When he got back to his room, Cosmo was thinking about Lyth's offer. He looked at the hole in the floor where he'd been arguing with Altair earlier and placed his sword in the spot again (the hole was made so he might as well use it). Altiar was once again reclining against the flat of the blade and knowing what Cosmo was going to ask, he said, "I advise you accept her offer. As she said, most of the positions are filled so there wouldn't be too much for you to do. In addition, you work directly for and are taught magic by Luna, the goddess many of them worship. If there came a situation dire enough for them to order you around to irritating levels, you'd most likely be too concerned with said problem to really care about being told what to do." Cosmo chuckled, "I keep forgetting you've been watching me all these years." Altair wasn't nearly as amused. "I could do nothing else. I only exist through you Cosmo. If you reject me... I am nothing." His words hung in the air and Cosmo's happiness vanished, "Altair... I'm sorry." "That wasn't meant to be a criticism. I respect and, in truth, agree with your reason for ignoring me. I just wish you hadn't... Buck this topic! It makes me get these horrible... feels. I promised you new weapon techniques, lets adjust your fighting style to reflect your new weapons." They began practicing, and with Altair's experience guiding him, Cosmo felt like he could once again fight at the same level as when he had the Black Swans..

"Mkay, time to unpack and get to work," she mumbles to herself. She moved a small dresser in front of the window, making sure to leave one ponylength between it and the wall. She carved a symbol in the front that glowed momentarily, then faded like a burn into the wood. She then placed a dark blue-purple tapestry with a version of her cutiemark outlined in silver thread. Atop this she place two silver candlesticks with white candles, in between which she placed a ball on a small holding circlet. Inside the ball was a smaller whit and black ball, which resembled a crescent.

After setting up the alter, she began the ritual-specific tasks. Standing in the center of the room, she concentrated, focusing her energies on the task at hand. The wood around her began to shift as silver bands wove their way into a pentagram through them. This done, she sat down for a moment's rest. After that, she went and retrieved more candlesticks and candles from her pack and set them at the points of the pentagram carefully. Satisfied, she turned to the next task.

Retrieving white chalk from her pack, she came to her door and drew a glyph for privacy. Her eyes flashed purple and the chalk molded into the door, glowing faintly. She went back to her bag and retrieved a root to nibble on. The magic was tiring and difficult for her to just spontaneously perform and had the side effect of making her knawingly hungry. The root was supposed to have restorative properties, and she soon felt she had the energy to continue. She got up and left her room smiling sneakily. Upon reaching Cosmo's door she quietly summoned two cans of paint and two brushes. Stealthily, she painted a white creasent moon with a purple-blue background, grinning. Vengance is a fruit that sows anger, but I think such a small symbol should be fine. She dried it quickly with a spell and knocked.

Swordpoint thought for a moment. "Why not play one of the ancient songs of harmonic worship? They date back to times when the princesses overthrew Discord with the Elements of Harmony, and the subjects of Equestria worshipped them both as the bearers of harmony. That was well before Luna's banishment."

Rainbow scoffed. "Pfft. Like music is really going to be entertaining."

Cosmo was laying on his bed and thought he heard a swishing sound. He glanced at Altair and asked, "You hear something?" He was reclining and would've appeared to be asleep if he didn't respond, "No, I don't. That swishing is probably your brain repeating the sound of your blades." Satisfied (or at least too tired to argue) Cosmo started going to sleep when he heard a knock at his door. "Looks like the ritual is ready. Lets see what Lyth has in mind." As Cosmo opened the door and walked through it, Altair called out, "Cosmo, wait! It's a trap!" XD Altair grinned evilly, "What mischief do you have planned Lyth?" Edited by TheBreech

She smiled at Cosmo, "Are you ready?" She was wearing a circlet atop her head and a silver chain circled her neck with a creasent moon affixed above her chest. Seeing him more or less ready to depart, she stepped back. "Cosmo, what exactly does Luna ask you to do?"

(...now I know how you felt when I asked for the specifics of your religion XD )

"...She asks me to use my skills for good. Not every threat to Equestria can be cleansed and turned to good. Some cannot be captured and others must be eliminated immediately. The victims of these tyrants and beasts are the jury, Luna is the judge, and I am the executioner... It's not a pretty job and many of these monsters break down and beg in their final moments. However, seeing the ponies freed from them prevents their fearful expressions from haunting me at night. Luna has never asked me to kill anyone who we could deal with less gruesomely. I must clarify however. Although, I'm almost never a diplomat, I don't always have to kill. Many times I'm sent to warn ponies what will happen I'd they don't change their ways or to forcefully liberate victims in smaller numbers." Cosmo stood in the doorway awaiting further instructions or questions for the ritual. Altair was frowning, silently complaining, "...If you weren't preparing a prank then why were you being so stealthy about painting the door... Lyth you're disappointing me..."

After hearing Swordpoint's suggestion, Max started to mentally go over all the songs he new from that period and tried to pick one.

But then he heard Rainbow's remark and just became even more nervous. He hadn't even started playing yet and he felt as if he was already being criticized.

She nods, "By the way, you have a wonderful door. I love the art. It's very... Faithful." She smiles at him, "Such a big leap for the newly faithful to display it so proudly." Leave me by myself for no reason and I'll start activating the runes behind the painting. "So, have you considered my offer a bit more?"

Cosmo nodded, "Altair finished convincing me. I'd like to hear what postions you had in mind, and what responsibilities come with them." Altair peeked from around behind Cosmo and observed Lyth's expression with the calmness of one who literally couldn't be seen by anyone but Cosmo. "What is that look in her eyes... Threatening..? Oh, you set the ward up as a form of punishment if Cosmo upsets you, probably by leaving you behind again. Clever mare, clever mare." Altair suppressed the urge to laugh lest he alert Cosmo of the surrounding conspiracy.

Swordpoint gave Rainbow a harsh glance. "Please, Max, go on. I am certain that it will be lovely." He leaned close to Rainbow. "Can you not see that he is nervous? Please... show him some respect."

Rainbow kicked her hoof as she realized that she was being quite rude. "Um... I'm sorry. Go ahead and play."

"The position I have in mind is called a Nightstalker. Their normal duties, functionally, are to train and help other Nightstalkers, but seeing as you would be the only one it's not a very difficult duty. Beyond that, you would have missions that would be given to you by me, as your appointed priestess, or Luna as you princess. So life for you shouldn't change much. Beyond Luna or I, you would be outside the religious chain. And since I'm basically at the top of the chain myself, you would quite literally be outside the chain. There is a code you are bound to; you would be morally obligated to protect innocent nighttime travelers in your area, but it shouldn't be that big a deal. You only have to help them if they ask, and the Night always rewards jobs well done. Would you be comfortable with that position?" She began to walk to her room.

Relieved a bit, Max lightened up a little and just nodded in response. He got his bearings together and finally decided what to play. He walked over to the big black grand piano, took his seat, and stretched a bit. He took one long deep breath, sat up straight, and started to play.

(OoC: I'd be more concerned with how you're playing a piano with hooves than how the song exists. lol)

Swordpoint cast a spell to keep the ship's wheel on course. He gently glided down to where Max was playing and listened quietly. The music was quite calming, and he could feel the emotion within it. The ancient songs of harmonic worship... I see now why they call them so. I feel so at peace when I hear this.

Rainbow followed Swordpoint, and she found that she was, oddly enough, enjoying the music. Wow... that's not even my style, but I like it. Makes me feel peaceful...

When Max had finished, Swordpoint smiled. "That was beautiful, Max. Would you be so kind as to grace us with another?"

(OoC: Great song choice. The emotions I had Swordpoint and Rainbow feeling were actually my own.)

She stepped into the room behind him and closed the door. It resounded with a hollow boom, as if she'd closed the door to a great hall. Moving to the center of the silver pentagram, "Now it's important that you stay behind the alter until I tell you otherwise. If I get distracted... It would be very bad. And that's an understatement." As she stepped into the center of the pentagram, it began to glow and hum with magic. Her mane was whipped back out of her face by a soundless, unnoticable wind. Her eyes began to glow, and she began to chant, though the words didn't sound very specific and couldn't really be made out beyond feeling powerful. The window opened leisurely and a powerful beam of moonlight came in, energy pooling into a circle at the foot of the window. Slowly a pony began to form, until an infinitely old and seemingly ageless alicorn appeared. The pony looked at the pentagram and smiled. "Always ceremonial with that one. Hasn't missed a full moon in ten years." She looks to the alter confusedly, "I had thought you were already a part of this... Oh, what is the mortal word? Ah yes, I believe it was religion. No matter, you are here now. I will ask you to remove the pendant she made for you. Whilst she used my magic, she meant for it to work. It would effectively repel my blessing unless I disabled it, and I'd rather not disable it, seeing as she practically drank herself incoherent." The voice was strong, but was not seemingly spoken. More thought. She waited for him to fulfill her request.

Altair said nothing but made it clear Cosmo shouldn't argue. Removing Altair's sheath from its harness, Cosmo set it aside. Doing so disabled the amulet as it was no longer in contact with Cosmo. Almost shocked beyond coherent thought Cosmo simply stood and waited for the Alicorn to continue.

"It is customary at this moment for me to impart wisdom to you," she says, walking to him. She stood across from him, "As one who has seen much, you know there is much I could tell you, but this is what I will leave you with; forget the pains of the past, and look instead to what the future can bring. You cannot change what has been, only what will be." She closed her eyes and leaned forward, tapping her horn to his forehead. He felt a brush of energy rush through him, and suddenly the dark corners of the room didn't seem so dark, and the sounds seemed louder (His hoovesteps would be softer) "Normaly, this is where I'd leave you. However, my preistess would like to bestow upon you a spiritual duty." Her eyes glint with humor, "Do take it easy on her, she has never had a, what do you call these things... Relationship? Yes, I do believe that is it. Now, repeat after me if you will; I, Cosmo, ensure that I will protect the innocent from the nights dangers, and uphold the honor of the night."

"Thanks Captain. I'm glad you liked it." Max gleefully said with a bright expression on his face. He couldn't help but blush a little bit at the complainants he was receiving. It felt really nice to hear them, especially since he had a bit of low self-esteem. Then, as the Captain was walking away, a shred of hope came down upon him. Maybe he would make a friend or two on this trip.

"I, Cosmo, ensure that I will protect the innocent from the nights dangers, and uphold the honor of the night," he repeated. The words felt so natural to him, and yet, so powerful. "I joined this church sooner." Cosmo said to Altair who still within range of conversing. "Amazing Cosmo... A goddes just made a request related to you dating Lyth, one her priestesses who you already have affections for, and all you think about is the religion you're joining?" Its called focusing on the ritual with said goddess now shut up," Cosmo replied. Altair was silenced by the fact that Cosmo was correcting him, on such a matter as opposed to the usual reverse. "I suppose I'm getting carried away with looking out for your happiness, aren't I Cosmo?" he asked silently, lest he disturb the ritual before him.

I am an expert in whatever you don't call me out for not really being, and don't know enough about to realize I have no clue what I'm doing   :)
