Twilight felt sympathy in Wildcard. I know how you feel. I was once like that too. I get ordered to take on a really dangerous task by the princess, and I think that it can't be done... But you just need to have confidence in yourself. I know you. You're strong. You may be no Element of Harmony, but anypony can pull if off if they try!

 

The Crystal Empire was within distance, the four ponies near the entrance.

The Crystal Empire was within distance, the four ponies near the entrance.

"Thank you Twilight." Wildcard answered and felt a bit calmer. Then he smiled and added "It sure helps a lot to have a good friend by my side"

When they entered the crystal empire the colt was stunned by just how beautiful everything around them was. The buildings shimmered in the sunlight and ponies made of chrystal trotted cheerfully around the streets.

Sure, Wildcard. Glad I made you feel better. She smiled as she entered the Crystal Empire. She can always be stunned by the shimmering beauty of the town, but it was no time to become distracted. Alright guys, let's go! Princess Cadence is waiting for us! As the ponies make their way around the town sightseeing, they eventually reach the castle, and see that Princess Cadence is in her throne next to some royal guards.

 

Halt! You cannot enter here! Says one of the Royal Guards. Wait, you're princess Twilight. Apologies, I didn't see you there. Are these two other ponies here to aid you on your journey?

 

Yes, they are. Twilight responded. 

 

Then you may enter.

 

Twilight comes into the Princesses' throne room. Cadence! We're here! 

 

Oh, Twilight! I'm so glad you're here! Both Cadence and Twilight precede to do their friendly song.

 

Sunshine, sunshine, ladybugs awake! Clap your hooves. and do a little shake!

Twilight gets back up, looking at Wildcard and Quick Shot, bushing slightly. *Ahem..* It's a... Thing we did since we were young...

After some dashing around of her own, as well as Big Macintosh and Applebloom flitting around the house gathering her things, Applejack was finally packed. Big Mac lifted her saddlebags onto her back and Applejack almost fell over with the sudden weight. "Whoo-ee! Whaty'all pack in there Big Mac? Half o' the orchid?" she laughed jokingly.

"Eeyup" Big Mac replied, opening one of her bags to reveal it was packed full with shiny red apples.

"Well...gosh, I was only jokin' with y'all but, thanks!" She smiled, putting a hoof around Mac's neck just as Rainbow Dash arrived.

"Hold yer horses RD, i'ma comin'!" she called as she opened the door and trotted down the path. "So, where we at now? Train station right?" she reared up on her hind legs, calling out a classic "Yeeeee-haw!" before galloping back the way they had arrived and being waved off by her family.

"That's nice" Wildcard smiled. "It's lovely to see two princesses just being themselves" he added. Though their dance may look a bit "silly" at first glance it was really heartwarming to look at, he thought.

 

Then the pegasus turned to Cadence and introduced himself.

Oh, Applejack and Rainbow and getting the rest of their stuff back in Ponyville, and Rarity and Fluttershy are near the train in Canterlot so it doesn't leave without us.

Okay, I suppose you can pass what I'm about to say to them. Now, Twilight and Wildcard, listen up. I've been trying my best to find out what this danger is, and from what I've gathered, it is indeed a living being. I also sense it's powers are very strong. It's debatable whether it's what the Elements of Harmony can handle, but... It's worked very well in the past, I'm sure they can work... Cadence saying with a very slightly unsure face that none of the ponies can see. However, I haven't done much of the research, Shining Armor would know more about that, which is why Quick Shot is probably talking to him in the first place... Twilight, you should follow Quick Shot.

Cadence brings Twilight in close.

And... Just watch your back around him. He's a mercenary, and I don't want you to get hurt...

Yeah, of course, Twi" Wildcard answers and follows the unicorn. "Never thought that I would meet the prince, I mean...your brother" the pegasus says with excitement.

Once they have reached Shining Armor, Wildcard greets him with a little salute.

"Hello Captain...er...my name is Wildcard....and..." the pegasus feels nervous for a moment and pauses his sentence. Wildcard has heard a lot of stories about Shining Armor and talking to the prince of the Crystal Empire and Captain of the Royal Guards feels somewhat unreal. He swallows down his nervousity and continues to introduce himself.

"I am a friend of Twilight and will try to help her with this mission."

Shining Armor looks behind him to see Twilight, Quick Shot, and Wildcard. He calls out to the troops: Okay everyone, stop! I have some business to attend to. Practice your weapons for a little while. He first walks to Twilight. Hey, Twily. He rubs her head playfully. I suppose you're trying to save Equestria from the thing? 

I am. And Cadence told me you had some more information on it? I'd really like to know.

 

 

Shining turns his head to Quick Shot, then back to Twilight. I do... Hang on. He turns back to Quick Shot. Go over there, Quick Shot. I'll talk to you in a minute.

 

He turns to Wildcard. Haha, no need to be nervous. It's nice to meet you, Wildcard. I'm so glad you can help my sister out.

 

He turns back to Twilight. Okay, so here's the situation. From every piece of info I found out from my troops and Cadence, it is not natural, and it's... Very dangerous. It's got no weapons, so I assume it's got magic on it's side. It has got no know history of being inside Equestria, so obviously it's from far away. That's all I know. Perhaps you can find out more on your journey.

 

Thank you, Shining Armor... I suppose you need to talk to Quick Shot now, huh? 

 

Yeah, let me talk to him. Shining Armor walks away with Quick Shot and the two begin to converse.

"Yeup, Big Mac did a fine job packin' me some food...and the rest of Equestria, it seems" Applejack chuckled as she galloped underneath Rainbow Dash. "Just brough ma'self the essentials though, couple a' ropes, sleepin' bags 'n' whatnot. 'Bout you Rainbow, what'd you bring?"

What Rainbow was really thinking about was the thing they were up against. This unknown danger is worse than anything they had ever encountered, because they didn't even know what it was.

Applejack was doing her best to try and avoid thinking too much about what they might face, but it still kept rearing its head. Eventually though she managed to pull her mind back to meeting up with the rest of the group, they where surely far ahead of them by now.

Not far now, we're almost there! They soon arrived at the train station and rested with Rarity and Fluttershy while they waited for everyone else to arrive. Huh I wonder how Twi and everyone else are doing at the Crystal Empire. Hope they get here soon before the train arrives.

Fluttershy saw Rainbow Dash and Applejack first and flew over to greet them.

"Oh, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, I'm glad you're here. I wonder if the others are very far behind..." she said as she met them and flew alongside Rainbow.  Rarity She landed beside Applejack on the platformand looked around the station. 

"Oh, I hope they're doing alright. Anyway, if the train arrives before they get back, we can nicely ask the conductor to wait."

Quick Shot nodded and stalked over to the other end of the field. He took out a whetstone and began working on his kukri- a single-bladed, curved blade that he used when enemies got up too close. It also worked well as a machette. He continued sharpening the blade.

"So were up against something magical? Then I am optimistic with a good mage like you by my side. I know you are worrying because Celestia was overwhelmed...but to be honest". The colt looks around and continues whispering "It seems as if Celestia has become weaker over the last years and that your powers might even have surpassed hers. Have you ever thought about that?"

Wildcard looks at the sad mare and answers, trying to sound optimistic.

"Listen Twi, I don't know how powerful the princess is, but I am sure she will be able to rule this place wisely for a long time. I am just thinking that she might depend on your help a bit more often."

The pegasus puts an hoof on her shoulder and smiles

"But I am sure her faithful student will be able to deal with that."

@@Twi Rubix, Quick Shot looks up. "Ah, hello, Shining Armor. One thing that I have learned- overheard, really- on my way over here. The Inquisition. What does the Inquisition do when the princesses are unavailable? They take over the government in all but name- temporarily- until the issue is under control. Luckily, this hasn't happened for centuries, but I overheard several of them talking about it now." He shook his head. "I need you to do me a favor. I don't even care if it's you or some emissary. While Wildcard, the Elements, and I are out dealing with this, I need you to delay with Grand Inquisitor Karma as long as possible. Because if the Inquisition gets control, they are going to send out half the army- and if Celestia couldn't deal with this, then what are the chances that the army could? They'll get thousands killed."

 

He paused.

 

"Also, on a less serious note, you still owe me a bag of bits from that mission a few weeks ago. I brought Captain Flash Sentry the- arrowed- head of that spy, just as you asked."
