Keaton recoiled ever so slightly when he read Screwball's reply. Not out of disgust or anything similar, but because the thought of a pony speaking like a dog struck him as... odd.  Granted, he was in an Insane Asylum, but still.

 

'Well that's a bit more useful than me.' He wrote, jokingly. 'You could be your own guard dog, if you wanted!'

 

Keaton almost let out a small chuckle at the thought, but stifled it out, keeping it unnoticable.

 

'As for me, everything I try to say comes out wrong. Really wrong. Like, I tried to thank one of the nurses earlier today, and all that came out was "Pomegranate."

 

He turned the notebook so Screwball could read the whole message:

Ooc: Just a small point here: Eddie needs to quit being so confrontational; even big bads in mental asylums do eventually settle down, cuz the alternative is worse. Also, this RP is based on Victorian era asylums so lobotomy is not banned. Joy refuses to use it in the insane asylum, but Dume has no such scruples.

 

Alec shrugged. "Your funeral, kid. Was nice knowing you while you still had a fully functioning brain." He started packing his medical bag, prior to leaving.

 

 

 

Poppy thought, then her eyes lit up. "Of course!" she exclaimed. "A new patient, only recently arrived. I or one of the doctors could introduce the two of you."

"I'll just go get one," Moonshine replied. "They have note taking pads out in the front." She went to the front of the library and quickly returned with a pad and pencil.

'Actually, Not too many ponies know of my disorder. Only my parents, the guards, and the people in this Asylum.  My parents tried to keep me in solitude from the rest of the world, and as such I never really left my house. On my 19th birthday, I broke free from my parents, and left to explore Equestria. I used quill and parchment to converse with others, and if they questioned, I told them I was born mute. It worked for almost 2 years, until some Canterlot Guards found me out and forced me to speak. Apparantly, it's impossible for ponies to be mute. At first they thought I was playing stupid, but after a week or so, they sent me here.'

 

'Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure today's my birthday, give or take a few days. I'll need to find a calendar soon.'

Vinyl stood up and gave a nod of the head to her acquaintances. "I think I'm gonna go now. I still don't know if I should go over to Sunset and Moonshine or just go back to my room, but I'll figure it out. Maybe I'm just not as social as I thought I was... Anyway, au revoir." With that, she left. After a little bit of thinking and pacing around the back of the room, she decided she'd just go to her room. Once she was back, she laid down on her bed, buried her head in her pillow, and started crying.

Ooc: oh right it was only banned in 1950 i think, my bad, and my OC was not being confrontational at all, matter or fact, i had it planned to make him ya know calm down after you made a post, so i hope theres no hard feelings?

 

 

Eddie looked confused as alec was about to leave his cell, Eddie stood infront of the door not letting the doctor leave "hey wait wait stop! where are you going you cant leave doc, look alwaight ill be calm as a tree just please do not do that...that method, and my brain is functional no need for insults, if you dont believe me you can have one of those sessions where you talk with me and write stuff down, just come on man you really made it sound scary with that method" Eddie looked nervous as he also looked scared, last thing he wanted was to wake up with a black eye and a dead brain

Sunset took the notepad and stared at it for a moment. Thinking on the events of the day, she had an idea and started drawing. The pony she had arrived with had terrified her with her yelling and screaming, but upon hearing that she had schizophrenia, she had probably been hearing things. So, it gave her the idea to guess at what she had been hearing and seeing. 

She set the pencil down and showed it to Moonshine.

 

((Think Symphony putting her hooves over her head and a bunch of creepy figures reaching for her.))

 

 

The shadow looked down at Rowan and cackled loudly, ignoring her question and darting away, disguising itself as a normal shadow elsewhere.

Symphony released her hoof from her ear and looked up at Vinyl."Okay, it looks like they've left, but..." Vinyl had already turned around and was heading elsewhere. She furrowed her brow, but returned her attention to Rowan.

"You can talk to them? i've never even tried that..."

"Of course," Poppy replied, warmly. "I'll ask one of the other nurses to go and see where she is." She got up and looked into the main staff room, where a few nurses were sitting having coffee.

 

"Starlet?" she asked a pale peach pegasus mare with a cream mane and tail, "Could you be a dear and go and see if you can find Sunset anywhere?"

 

Starlet smiled and replied, "Right away." She drained her coffee cup and walked out of the staff room.

"My parents always knew of the way my sister and I were," Screwball wrote. "We were born like it. My parents at first tried to isolate us, but both of us were becoming restive and eventually, they decided to send us away. I don't really get on with my sister, and we fought quite a lot, but they always took her side over mine, so I was quite relieved that they chose to separate us."

Ooc: Tis ok.

 

Alec stopped. "Well," he said, "If you're sure that you're going to calm down, I could arrange a session with you. It'll be in one of the secure rooms, but you can talk freely. I would much prefer this to the alternative; I'm far more keen on equine methods than Dume is. I think I could fit you in this afternoon, in fact, if that's OK with you."

Moonshine looked at the picture. "That's very good," she said. "Is that of the patient who was with you when you arrived?"

 

"I started talking back at them when they really started bothering me," Rowan replied. She noticed that Vinyl had left, but did not comment. "It seemed to work, somewhat, but other ponies thought I was really crazy cuz I was talking to things that they thought weren't there."

Eddie scooted away from the cell door way as he nodded while looking down on the floor "i actually didnt mean the sess-...aah alright, just talking right? because i dont want ya'll doing experiments on me, im serious, its bad enough that im in a....how is it called...eeeh...criminal mental asylum! if that social worker didnt order those doctors to diagnose me i would probably be in some prison or dungeon and not having this talk with ya, and this afternoon you mean as in tommarow? because i have no idea if i was brought here today or a week ago...." Eddie turned away from alec and sat down holding the top of his head in confusion "...i dont even remember when or how i ate...i think it was 10 minutes ago or something..." he looked up at alec "i dont even know who you are"

'Do you ever think you'll be able to speak normally? Judging from what I've seen here, this Asylum is based on helping ponies reform, not on keeping ponies locked away from the rest of the world. It'd be nice, in my opinion, being able to speak properly and what not.'

Sunset nodded. "Th-thank you... y-yes, she was yelling at things that weren't there to shut up, s-so it gave me an idea..."

Symphony's hoof returned to her muzzle.

"Well, I've sort of tried, but it's mostly been me yelling at them to quiet down, but they've never listened. Not that I expect them to, really, but sometimes it can keep me from a breakdown."

"Don't panic, just talking," Alec replied. "You lie on a couch, and talk about things to me. Nothing else, I promise. And my name's Alec. Foodwise, don't worry; I'll get right on it. One of the nurses will bring you some food."

"I don't know," Screwball wrote, "But I hope so. Sometimes I hear a random word come out mixed with the barking. If that ever happens, and they let me out, I'm going to change my name and move someplace else. A fresh start."

At that moment, the nurse called Starlet appeared. "Is Sunset here?" she asked, kindly. "Nurse Poppy sent me to fetch her as there's a patient with a similar affliction who'd very much like to meet her."

 

"I started doing that, and at first they didn't listen," Rowan replied. "Then, much to my surprise, they did seem to hear me and sometimes they even go away when I tell them to. Not permanently, but it's progress."

Sunset hid behind her mane. Somepony wanted to meet her? She wasn't sure she wanted to go, but the nurse would easily be able to find out anyway, so she timidly raised her hoof. 

"M-me..."

 

Symphony's eyes went wide. 

"Huh. They leave you alone sometimes if you tell them to? I need to try that sometime."

Eddie didnt really believe alec, it didnt make sence to him about the scheduled session, but then again he had nothing to lose and its for sure that he really had nothing to live for, just endless thievery witch sooner or later might get him imprisoned "so this is THAT kind of prison huh? where you serve food to the patients through that small window in the cell door...but im not complaining, i wouldnt want to eat in the cafeteria, i dont like how ponies look at me and that kind of stuff, so i would prefer to stay here....in my cell, so till we meet again doctor Alan" Eddie avoided eye contact with alec as he didnt want to give up his real name and start a friendship with him,

Eddie thought if he seemed wierd and anti-social then alec wouldnt even think to befriend with Eddie

'This place is huge, there's bound to be more to it then just this.' Keaton thought, while turning the notebook for Screwball. 'But I wonder if we're allowed free roam of the whole building?'

Vinyl used her magic to send a message to Glory, telling her that she'd failed to interact with the other ponies and that now she was in her room, working on a painting to relax and express her emotions. "I just can't seem to do it, Glory. I'm still horrible at talking with the others. Luna, why did this whole thing have to happen in the first place?"

Starlet smiled warmly. "Don't look so scared, dear," she said. "I really think you could help this patient."

 

"Yeah," Rowan replied. "Sometimes. More so since I started yelling at them. And at least here, nopony looks at me funny."

"Don't worry, I wouldn't let anything bad happen now that you're officially a patient of mine," Alec replied. "I'll come and collect you when it's time."

 

@@Pinkie Paranoia,

 

"There's the library, and we can go outside, too," Screwball wrote. "I work outside, too; with the animals sometimes and sometimes in the garden."

Glory rushed to Vinyl's room, giving her a hug. "Don't worry, Vinyl," she said, soothingly. "It's a start at least; remember that every journey starts with the first step. And you've made that first step."

Sunset highly doubted it. She continued to hide her face behind her mane, but rose from her seat.She didn't want to meet any pony, but she wasnt in the position  to turn down anypony's request right now. She turned to Moonshine.

"S-Sorry, I-i have to g-go and... M-m-meet some pony, I-I guess..." she mumbled.

 

Symphony sighed. "You're lucky. They've never really listened to me."

'I'm not really too much into reading, so that library's pretty much useless to me. Though it wouldn't help to read up on how to keep a conversation going, my topics are starting to run dry.'

Eddie nodded again as he replied "when its time? you made it sound like an execution date...when will the session begin anyway? and also tell the nurse to get me a piece of paper and a pencil, i need to write something down so i wouldnt forget and to make sence of all...all THIS!" said Eddie as he wa walking around in circles

"I took the first step... Then I tripped and broke my ankle. I failed. I hate failure." Vinyl sighed and shook her head. "I can't do it, Glory. I just don't think this is something I can really fix. I've been so paranoid and shut everybody out for so long that I don't think I know how to interact anymore..." She let go of Glory and sat down on the bed with her

Moonshine smiled. "I'll wait here for you," she said. "Don't worry about it, it might be alright and you might even make a new friend."

 

Starlet took Sunset to the room where Poppy waited with Goldie.

 

Rowan put a comforting hoof on Symphony's shoulder. "They never listened to me at first, either," she said. "Then I started being more forceful in the way I spoke."

"There's a flower garden," Screwball wrote, "And a vegetable allotment. And a farm section. Sometimes it's good to just walk about there."

 

@@Eddie,

 

"About an hour after lunch," Alec replied. "And of course; I'll ask the nurse to bring them in along with your lunch."

"All first steps are like that," Glory replied. "It'll get better, I promise. I had problems fitting in as a filly, I never seemed to belong to any group. The unicorns looked askance at my wings and the pegasi didn't like my horn. I spent lots of time alone, writing in my diary. But I eventually, after my mother urged me to socialise more, got to a point where I could at least relate to other ponies. You'll get there too. And I will be right behind you all the way."

Vinyl leaned on Glory's shoulder and looked up into her eyes. She could feel the energy flowing through them and it was comforting. She laid down next to Glory and let out a relaxed sigh, almost a hum. "Well, as long as you'll support me, I'll keep trying, no matter how excruciatingly painful it can be to drag myself through that. It's almost like a field of glass, but as long as you're on the other side, I'll walk through it."

Glory hugged Vinyl again. "It's always difficult," she replied. "But what makes it easier is thinking about the pony on the other side who's waiting for you, and cheering you on all the way."
