Recommended Posts

Hello~! My name is Boo and, well, I really like MLP! I've been watching it since the first couple of episodes, and it is just truly stellar and lovely. Most of the fandom-y parts of my MLP life have consisted between me and a few of my friends~ But now I have decided to branch myself out and join a nice forum~

My favorite character is Fluttershy ♡ I also definitely relate to her the most; we are both very shy and very quiet and have big hearts and a huge appreciation for animals and nature.

Some other things to know are that I'm nineteen, female, and I'm just finishing up my gap year before heading off to college to major in english education (ᅌᴗᅌ* ) oh, and I really love cute things~! I also really love RPing with my pone OC so you'll definitely see me around there hehe.

Hi Boo, welcome to MLP Forums. :) Fluttershy is my favorite out of the mane six, but I'm undecided as to whether or not she's my favorite character out of all the characters. I relate to her as well, because I am shy and introverted, and I also have a huge appreciation for animals and nature.

Good luck with college. :) I'm sure you'll do great.

Welcome to the forums, Boo.

Cute things are the way of the future! If it can make you "d'awww" then it's worthy of gracing our eyes and will change the world.

But seriously, welcome welcome. I hope you have as much fun here as we do! You'll see me hanging around the Everfree Forest section on off-seasons so if you ever wanna talk, that's the first place to go.

And good luck with college! I've been considering going back myself if I can get any sort of financial aid. Last time I went I kinda dropped out because at the time I hated school and had already dropped out of high school to get my GED. Probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life that I do not intend to repeat. :P

By the way, that's one of the best Fluttershy avatars I've ever seen. +1 Adorable. ;)

Hi Boo! First off, excellent choice in best pony. I don't roleplay much, but good luck with that! If you ever need any help, please feel free to message me!

Oh my goodness! I wasn't expecting so many replies! Thank you so much for the warm and lovely welcome, everyone ~ ♡

@@Discordian, it took a lot for me to realize that I wanted to go to college. I was pretty much dead set on joining the circus (I'm a hula hooper hehe) or just to begin working, because I am very anti-American-school-system (which is also ironic because I'm planning to go into education... hmmm).

Yaaay, so many Fluttershy fans! I'm also a fan of Flitter to be fair... I think they're just so adorable~

But yes! Thanks again you guys :) you all seem super duper lovely and wonderful~

The circus huh? That's quite the unique choice of careers!

Still, whatever brings in the dough, eh? Getting a job isn't easy with or without a diploma of some kind so I hope you find your place when you go looking for a job.

Out of curiosity, what's your beef with the school system in America? I'm neither for or against it either way, I'm out of it and that's all that matters. (Going to college is a little different since you are going for something you want to do instead of just going through the ropes of a pre-selected and very limited choice of classes like in high school.)

Oh boy hehe. I'll try to open this can of worms as minimally as possible.

I suppose my biggest problem with the American education system is that I almost feel as if it is training me to be a good employee for some company rather than actual knowledge for things that are useful. I mean, it goes without saying that this is not the case for 100% of American schools haha, but I know for a fact I am not the only one who feels this way. I feel as if certain subjects are Very Important (Reading/Literacy, Math, Science) and the rest fall under an umbrella of Not Important. Finance, sex ed, and even social studies are being cut from schools to make room for for classes like corrective reading or math. Now I am definitely NOT saying that any of the core subjects are not important, but because of how much it is stuffed down our throats, I am also not learning general knowledge of life skills that I can use every single day. Things like Shakespeare and basic history are supposed to give you an insight into how the world works and how people's minds work, but that isn't getting across to the students. Perhaps that is the teacher's fault at times, but sometimes the most wonderful teachers are hindered by rules, regulations, and state testing.

Most of this boils down to the fact that we are taught for state assessments, and that in-and-of itself is a complete disaster that will probably make me get a terrible headache if I think about it hehe. Even core class teachers feel bogged down and pigeonholed because they could only teach certain topics only because they were on a test, not necessarily because they were interesting or useful or indicative of what students might face at some point in life. One of the great ironies of our system is that teachers generally agree that certain things are important but have no power to create those things.

Additionally, the people who run the school from the background (superintendents, school boards) tend to not know or understand teaching. Again, this may not be relevant to you or your school district, but it's definitely pretty common around where I have grown up. So sometimes you end up feel like you're talking and complaining to a brick wall when you suggest ideas and whatnot.

I'm sorry if this is inelegible or confusing - it's been a pretty exhausting day here haha. Not really living up to my eloquence as a pre-english teacher...  (⌒▽⌒)☆
