Radost 76 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 I just think that the idea of them going into the human world as Senors at high school sounds like its trying to appeal toward brony's. "You WILL be heavily judged on how you treat others." "Opinion is about perspective, peoples who opinions matter to me the most are those who have the ability to understand different perspectives while maintaining their own opinion." "Projecting your insecurities on other people doesn't solve them, so don't."
GrimCW 658 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 (edited) They claim it, but hasbro is an old school toy company first and foremost. They did claim it due to the oft seen "humanized" pony persona's that people had created prior to the movie (and contrary to the outsiders view, pornographic ones were the LESS common variant). But for that to seem even remotely valid then they would've had to go with a more straight anime style akin to something like Ben10, using very human characters, at best with somewhat pony like ears/tails ala cat girl style. Few, If any, ever came out as brats/monster high variants TMK, and most actually were Cosplayers trying to be the ponies without having massive and expensive fur suits. It was more likely an attempt to create the new doll toy line to compete with the Bratz/Monster High lines, and suck in at the brony phenomena while it was still big enough to create sales worth having. While also keeping it kid friendly enough to try and attract both the collectors of the other dolls, and the children themselves. They may have also intended to start another series, as TBH I find the wrap up for the movie somewhat less than quality even for a kids movie. But canned it when they got the heavy backlash. I don't see why it can't remain cannon though, since everything did return to normal, but alas, someone in Hasbro is listening to the whiners BEFORE the facts are out there, and decided this might be a bad idea. In the end though, no idea. Edited August 10, 2013 by GrimCW
DarligPegasi 315 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 (edited) I think they made it to appeal to the people who put all of their money into Hasbro/Hub's metaphorical pocket. But the whole highschool concept has been used for the longest time, when it comes to 'all girl group friends forever blahblah' to reel in little girls who want to be grown up and have fun all the time in the wonderful magical land that is highschool. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 Kind of a pointless question because we will never truly know but my opinion is this, they most likely made the movie to get into the Monster High-type doll toy line. That was probably their first intention with the film. I don't see that as a bad thing though. Regardless of their intention, in my opinion, the movie was still incredibly enjoyable and there were many little shoutouts to the fandom, which Hasbro easily could have said "No, don't do that." As cliche as the film's plot was and other aspects of it being flawed, I still loved it. Just because Hasbro may say "Hey, do this.", it doesn't mean that they are restricting the writers to extremely specific standards and I think EqG reflects that. Again, it was not uber amazing, but for what it was, I really liked it. 3 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
~Sugar Sprinkles~ 638 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 Well, a lot of the fans I've heard REALLY wanted to see what they were like as humans. And well, Lauren Faust must have gave them what they wanted. I also wanted to see what they were like as humans too. Infact, I drew fan art of them as humans. It sure was amazing. Scootalove 10,692 August 12, 2013 Share August 12, 2013 I don't they made it to appeal to bronies, they made the movie to appeal to the female demographic so they could sell toys and make money from selling the Equestria Girls toys. In my opinion, they made the movie to sell the toys. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Shanks 10,817 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 I think it was made primarily to appeal to girls between the ages of 10-16, they already have girls younger than that pretty much in their corner and they want to keep them there as long as possible. It is the same reason why after the original cartoon ended they made My Little Pony Tales which was basically a teen drama with ponies. But that dosen't mean that the writers didn't have bronies in mind when they were making this, all the references, shout outs and the two appearance of Derpy are proof that they also wanted to throw us a few bones as well. Feather Gem 967 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 They made it to sell toys. But, at the same time, I believe the writers tried to make us like it. I mean, they put Trixie, Vinyl Scratch and even Derpy in it. Everypony knows these are some pretty famous ponies among us bronies even though we don't get to see them too often in the show. Giving Trixie some lines pretty much proven it to me! Cx They wanted us to like it. They might have noticed us all hating on it, and tried to make it right again. I think it worked.
