So recently I've started to look at the storyline for Doctor Who from the old series.  So what exactly happened to Gallifrey?

Oh right! When they where relaunching the show in 2005 they decided to kill it off and make the Doctor the Last of the Time lords.

 

 

 

So basically what happened was: During the last great time war the Doctor burnt Gallifrey killing off both the Daleks and the Time lords. Although the Daleks survived.

I first saw the show from the new series, so I thought Gallifrey was destroyed before the First Doctor and that is what started the show.  I thought he was always the last one.  And I thought that the new doctor we saw in Day of the Doctor was his first incarnation, as in before the First Doctor.
