I don't entirely blame the media. I also blame bad parents, other kids, and just society in general.

There are a lot of causes for why phenomena like this happens. Bad parenting, what kids watch on tv and do out of sight of their parents, the ever changing landscape of society... all of it is just horrible for young, impressionable minds.

Television, mainly. With all the garbage that's on there, and how little parents these days actually pay attention to what their kids are doing, it's not that hard to find something unsuitable at their age.
