 History bored me like everything else, though I don't think that's so much the subject's fault as much as it is that we never seemed to talk about the interesting aspects of anything, only the stuff I'd personally find boring.

I don't know if anyone here read them or if they have them in America but I always used to read Horrible Histories as a kid. I think that's what got me hooked on the subject.

My uni course was mostly modern history, the 19th century up until the 1970s or so. But I also did some further back stuff like the French Revolution.

Oh ok, sounds pretty interesting I'm more for the older history, like the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. That's my favourite period.

I am interested in most history really.

 

I've been reading quite a few historical novels lately. I read War and Peace a couple months ago and now I'm reading some WW2 novels.

 

I also like quite a few bands who sing about history, specifically;

 

Amon Amarth (death metal band who sing about Vikings)

Alestorm (Folk metal band who sing about pirates)

Sabaton (Power metal band who sing about war)

 

Edit: I forgot to mention Nile. BRUTALLY heavy death metal band and all of their songs about ancient Egypt.

War and Peace just looks insane to read, it'd take me ages to finish.

 

I've heard quite a lot of Sabaton's music. A very good band indeed, but I might have to take a look at Amon Amarth, that sounds awesome
