So solve problems like that, first set the log to equal n.

n = log base 8 of 2

Then take the base and raise it by each side.

8^n = 8^log base 8 of 2

Since, by definition, x^log base x of y = y,

8^n = 2

We convert 8 to 2^3

2^(3*n) = 2^1

so now we know 3n = 1, so n = 1/3
