Going back to the atmospheric ducting type stuff, in a related way.

If you have a radio station that transmits on Medium Wave or AM (around 1000kHz), FM (around 100MHz) and online and can receive all three, you can hear the differences in speed of promulgation.

FM is line of sight, MW has to bounce of of layers in the atmosphere, so it's up and down to the receiver and online is digitised and sent down the wires.

A couple of my flying students were engineers at the BBC and they used to moan that the speed of light was too slow due to the delay down the wires/fibres with transatlantic comms
