The mystery of Princess Cadance

So I re-watched Canterlot Wedding, I mean it's an awesome two-party or at least it is in my book.  However, one part got me thinking that I just kind of missed on the first... ok, well this isn't the second time I've seen it ok?  But regardless, after this run, I found myself wondering about something.  Name, why is Princess Cadance foal-sitting Twilight??? I can't wrap my head around it! 

 

She is PRINCESS Cadance during the Canterlot wedding, meaning she's already a princess over some kind of land/kingdom/barony/whatever.  We find out she's princess of the Crystal Empire.  But the Crystal Empire didn't come back until S3, meaning she was its princess even before it returned.  And the Crystal Empire was gone about 1000 years so either Cadance is very long lived as Celestia and Luna, or they gave her that title at some point (and no, I haven't read Crystal Heart Spell so do tell me if that's explained in there). 

 

Basically, I'm curious as to why a princess is a mere foal-sitter.  I tried to reason it and I think I actually found a reason.  You see, being a Princess without a kingdom is a bit of a downer.  Why?  No taxes.  So she's broke.  She tried being a waitress, but it didn't work out as colts kept hitting on her.  She tried being a lifeguard, but it didn't work out as colts kept hitting on her.  So she gave foal-sitting a try and it worked I guess because she got paid a lot and there weren't any colts hitting on her (Shining was totally at the Canterlot Guard Academy).   

 

What do you fine ponyfolk think?  Why did Cadance resort to foal-sitting as a princess???

Princess Cadence is the princess of 'love', as Celestia is Sun and Luna is Moon. Judging by her caring personality, I wouldn't be surprised if foal-sitting is a pure and simple love of hers; a hobby, something she just did when she was a teenager and young adult. Probably has little to do with money or her princess status at all (outsides the relation to her focus being the 'love' princess xP)

My head canon is that she was related to Luna and Celestia-probably their niece or something- and after Twilight was taken under Celestia's wing Cadence was assigned to Foalsit Twi and that she was only assigned the Crystal Empire long after that, but who knows right?

The way I see it, she's not going to be up and ruling empires and all that jazz when she's still just a filly not yet fully grown. I figure she was probably educated personally by Tia in the Princessly ways and such, but had a fair amount of off time to do whatever she wanted with. So she decided to foalsit and what not because hey why not.

 

Alternatively, considering that Twilight doesn't have her cutie mark in the SUNSHINE SUNSHINE sequence this was before Canterlot Magic Academy when Twilight became Celestia's pupil, so that link isn't there. That implies that Cadence foalsitting for Twilight was a happy coincidence, so Cadence was probably just being your average teenager (as a pony) and working odd jobs for spending money. Implying that Tia withheld a stipend for the Princess to be. Probably to teach character, or for the lulz.

I don't know how princess monarchy works but I don't think she was really a ruler of anything until the Crystal Empire re-emerged. Like Prince Blueblood I'm sure they were both highly ranked ponies in Canterlot.

She wasn't exactly a ruler of a kingdom in A Canterlot Wedding but, that was until the Crystal Empire episode. She probably became popular in Canterlot before she was a princess.

I don't think Cadence became a foal-sitter just for the sake of money. Why would she need it if she lived in the castle?

 

I think if you become an alicorn you are given the title of princess until you find your destined kingdom to rule.

 

Maybe Celestia had her do this to get better at getting use at taking charge.

 

Celestia thought it was time for her to earn money and learn to balances well so when she did get a kingdom, she would know the best way to handle money.

 

The last one I have is kinda weak, but maybe Celestia had Cadence watch Twilight when she they were to busy and could not do lessons. This idea became weak because Twilight does not have her cutie mark. Still could just be an animation error.

I think 'Princess' is a title you get when you acend to Alicorn status. You don't actually have to be a princess of a kingdom to receive the title. The title refers to her ruling her particular sphere of influence: love. Twilight's is Friendship, Celestia's is the Sun and Luna's is the Moon. Because they were the first Alicorns, Tia and Lulu took the title of Princess as rulers of Equestria as well.

 

Just my thoughts on the subject.
