The Final Realm

 

"Without a set of Morality, and an absolute power to govern it,

what one set of particles does to another set of particles is irrelevant."

 

Veertus. Is he a god? A spirit of power? or is he simply a powerful unicorn?

Regardless of his stature, he has brought you here, 

The Final Realm

Where there is no law but that which Veertus sets. You have been called here, in your sleep,

For one reason or another, of which veertus knows.

You must obey his wish, pass his trials, and you will be free, with a single wish to make your own.

Fail, and there is no escape from the Final realm.

No escape but death.

 

A simple idea, you are trapped in this realm, with these others, and must pass the trials that veertus puts ahead of you. He will test your strength, your courage, but above all, your morality. Who must you kill? Does this man deserve to die? You will be given decisions with no right answer, to see how you react.

You all start out in the same location: A white space, fringes of grey and black floating about. A circle of grey smoke forms under you all, likely marking the area in which you can walk. Everywhere around that you look is mere whiteness, endless. Before you floats a ball of gray smoke, with purple fringes on the lining. If you look clearly, you can make out a face, and yet you couldn't say exactly what the face looked like, because as you watched it, the memory would fade from your mind.

"Welcome." The voice spoke, booming and yet quiet at the same time. A slight echo followed his every word. "It is time you all begun. Say hi, everyone. You must all get to know each other."

"Great... I have to get to know everypony..." Blazing said under his breath. "So... I guess we should start by figuring out each others names then..." He said. "Either that or go with the more important thing, figuring out where we are." He added. He didn't really care about the other ponies names, he just wanted to know where they were.

Ceres slowly opened her eyes as she groaned, the splitting headache slowly receding from her awareness.  "What in Tartarus did I drink last night to deserve this..."

 

Her eyes fully open, Ceres stopped and stood up in shock.  Something was very wrong.  This was not her room, and this was certainly not anywhere she had ever been.  As the strange blob of grey moved and sounds made their way to her ears, Ceres stared in disbelief.  Looking around, she could see six other ponies in various stages of disarray, some still struggling to get up while others were complaining about the situation already.  Looking around, Ceres could find no indications of a door.  It appeared as if they were on a floating disk of grey among the endless white expanse.  Upon further inspection, Ceres eyes widened and her jaw went slack as she realized that she was standing on nothing but smoke. 'But I'm an Earth Pony...'

 

Testing the ground, Ceres felt somewhat satisfied that it could hold her weight.  Ceres braved the area, making a few passes around the floating disk of the somehow solid grey smoke.  The blob in the center worried Ceres the most, she found herself staring at it for long periods on end, trying to discover the face in the smoke only to be thwarted whenever she was about to come close.  Shaking her head, her black mane sweeping side to side, she took a seat and rubbed both of her hooves to her forehead in an attempt to relieve her of the oncoming migraine of trying to make sense of this nonsensical situation.

 

"Ok, lets go over what we know."  Ceres mumbled to herself.  "Last night I was out drinking with the new crew, I went home and passed out.  I woke up in this place, I can somehow walk on smoke, there doesn't appear to be an entrance or an exit, and there's a talking floating blob of glowing smoke in the center of it all.  Yup, I must be dreaming."

Gloom wakes up to the sound is a mare babbling, He gets to his hunches and rubs his head with a hoof and looks at the mare. "Hey filly, do you mind shutting your noise hole? I got a major hangover and I really really need some quiet right now." He then looked around for the first time. "Where the hell am I any way?" He quickly look at his sides for any stitches, And lets out a breath of relief finding none. "Well, at least I still got my kidneys."

"Yup, I must be dreaming."

 

The smokey form grew, and a grey cloud formed a sort of body beneath him,  round yet flowing behind him, like a cloak would. A thin round base formed on the top of the body, growing out into arms, getting bigger, forming claw-like fingers. The form moved forward, the grey smoke fading behind him as he moved, and he stopped right before Ceres, the grey smoke around the form floating a touch forward of him.

The being hummed, almost as if he was amused by something.

"Oh, ceres." He said, chuckling as he did. "I think you'll find this is very" He lifted his hand, putting the tip of his finger against her neck, lightly scratching her as he quickly followed his finger up to her chin. 

"Real."

Ceres' eyes went wide and her face paled, a shiver rolled up her spine.  She could feel the claw scraping across the underside of her chin, where her sensitive skin was.  This was no dream.  Her mind raced a million miles a minute, but one question persisted above all others in her mind.  She placed her fore hooves down and steadied herself with deep breathing exercises.

 

"What.. who are you?" She said in a shaky, but determined voice.  Her eyes had regained their dimensions and observed the creature extremely carefully.

The form floated back, humming. 

"My name is Veertus." He said, looking around at each pony individually, speaking to them all now. "As for what i am.." In a puff of smoke, he disappeared, another puff appearing behind Gloom. "That is quite a story." He said, teleporting again, this time behind Blazing. 

"A god? Possible..."

Teleporting again, behind Anti. "A spirit? Probable."  

Teleport again, next to Roulette. "A figment of insanity? Could be."

Teleport, above Darkshift. "Perhaps i'm simply a powerful unicorn."

Another teleport, next to Fire Sharp. 

"Perhaps you'll never know." He said, drifting to the center of the room again.

"I did not bring you here to contemplate my existence, no, i brought you here because you all had wished for something. Perhaps you know what it is, perhaps you don't. But there was a wish you possessed, and it is a wish i will grant, provided you prove yourself." He waved his hand beneath him, two portals appearing on the ground. On his right, the dark circle of smoke forming the portal surrounded a city. It was large, but not all that large. On his left the was another, but it was no city. It seemed to lead into a forest, yet there was no path or such in sight.

"You must exit this realm, into the comforting, dull city, or the adventurous, dangerous jungle. I believe once you arrive you shall learn your task quickly."

After Veertus had dissapeared, Anti had more questions than answers. "What is this place? How am I here?" he asked himself. And now, all of a sudden, he had to choose. He thought about it for a while, and stepped forward. Feeling as if everypony was looking at him, he walked towards the left portal, hoping he had made the right choice. He took air and walked inside the huge oval before him without saying a word, ready for the worse. And then, he found himself in the middle of an unknown jungle, all alone and with no clues.

"Well since he went that way... I'll go this way." Blazing said to himself, then walked into the right portal. Please tell me that was right... He thought. He decided that being in a city was better than being in a jungle. At least I can't get lost here... I hope... He thought.

Gloom stands up slowly, still feeling hungover. He looks around at the other ponies, most don't look like they never been in a fight in their life, maybe the big guy has and the other mare with the two sniper rifles on her flank. But the others...not so much. He then look towards the portals and shrugs and heads toward the one that goes tot he city."There better be a damn bar when I get there." He says as he walks through.

Fire sharp looked calm on the outside, but was slightly panicking on the inside. She had no idea of where she was and the smoke like pony that came up behind her had frightened her a little bit. She had only just woken up in this place and now the thing was acting a little bit creepy.  And the wish comment had taken her aback a little, why? 

She left that question to be answered later, and then she looked at the two portals. 

Two of the group went into the city, and only one went in the jungle. Fire had, had enough of the city. She had lost too much to politicians and such, and the jungle was a much better place.

So Fire walked into that portal, following the stallion.

Roulette awoke slowly, and was barely on his feet, before... Something was next to him. He jumped, taking a step back, only to watch the form disappear from his side to one of the other ponies. He didn't catch much- a good deal about a god, or absence of one, and a test. Test? 

 

Uncertain, the large stallion glanced around nervously, before he plodded to the portal that led to the city. He then stopped in front of it. If this was a test, wouldn't that mean he should take risks? No, no, he should stick to what he knew. No...

 

Flattening his ears, Roulette picked a random number, 36, and tapped the ground, alternating the hoof that touched the dirt. He ended on his right hoof, and letting out a breath, shook out his mane and stepped into the jungle. 

 

"Ah, my." He looked around, "This is... Not the north."

Ceres watched as Veertus magicked his way from place to place, stopping only to open two portals.  She was astounded by how quickly everypony seemed to accept the situation.  'Veertus is obviously pulling the strings here, what are these ponies thinking?  They're playing right into his... claw things...'

 

Each pony had chosen a portal.  Sighing, Ceres came to a conclusion.  'Well, I guess I'll have to play along for now.  But the first chance I get, I'm going to turn this sick twisted game back on this freak.'  She looked to each portal, mentally weighing her options.  While she was familiar with the city, something about the way Veertus had mentioned it caused her to give pause to the idea of going to the city.  It was almost as if he were trying to lull them into a sense of false security.  'Well, wouldn't want that to happen would we?'

 

Ceres stood up, a determined look on her face as she walked towards the portal that led to the jungle.  She took a deep breath and exhaled, stepping through the portal.

Veertus Sighed, making an image appear in front of both groups. 

"I feel awfully disappointed, you know. Not once did any of you ask another on what to do. You didn't spend a second consulting each other. How would you ever expect to work together if you don't stop to discuss anything." He sighed again.

"Find one another." He said, pointing to the city for the forest groups and vice-versa for the city-goers. "Once you find each other, we can continue with your journey."

Veertus Sighed, making an image appear in front of both groups. 

"I feel awfully disappointed, you know. Not once did any of you ask another on what to do. You didn't spend a second consulting each other. How would you ever expect to work together if you don't stop to discuss anything." He sighed again.

"Find one another." He said, pointing to the city for the forest groups and vice-versa for the city-goers. "Once you find each other, we can continue with your journey."

"I don't care what that guy says, I'm staying here..." Blazing said to himself. He didn't want anything to do with the other ponies, even if it meant being stuck there. If he was going to be stuck, he at least wanted to be stuck away from the other ponies. At least I'm in the city, I have places to go. He thought.

Ceres emerged in a jungle, next to three other ponies.  The image of Veertus appeared, and after his dialog, Ceres sighed in frustration.  "What an utterly pointless exercise." 

 

Ceres turned to the three ponies, "Alright, we should probably go and find the 'others'.  Does anypony know where we are?"

"Well, obviously we're in a jungle. But the Stallion who seems to be in control here pointed to where the city was, so maybe we go where he says. He wants us to get to the others so he probably gave us the right direction, and it doesn't really matter if it isn't the right way. I'm only doing this so I can go back."

Fire Sharp had suggested and she felt that was enough for now, it was easy to see and she wondered why he did not see it earlier.

Ceres sighed, 'This one must be dense.'  

 

"I meant if anyone knew where we are specifically!  You know... so we can find the others and get out of here?  Or do you honestly plan on doing whatever this... thing... says without question?!" Ceres gestured to the image of Veertus.  She almost face-hoofed, she couldn't imagine that anypony would actually want to be controlled by someone else.  Ceres was always in control of her life, and having her strings being pulled felt like she was being violated in some way.

"I know just as much about this place as you do, so I'm not gonna be able to help." Blazing said, then went to search the city more. If I"m gonna be stuck here, I want to be alone, and away from him... He thought. Chances were he was going to get followed anyway, but he had to try at least.

 

Gloom gets a little annoyed by the way he said that . "What up your ass?" He says still following him. "Also, I think we better stick together. Cause I'm pretty sure you ain't gonna be much use in a fight. So you better stick with me, or some crap dished out from that...I don't know what he is but I'll call him bastard, might happen. And we should find others. Strength in numbers, right?"

"Strength in numbers won't do much with that, thing..." Blazing said. He had no idea what else to call it but "thing". He kept walking figuring out everything he could about the town. "I'm just gonna look around this town and find anything that's useful to me." He added.

"Like what, a weapon or something? I doubt you'll find anything of use in the shit-hole, there ain't a single store open. Also, I don't see any being other then us, so we might be able to break into someplace. Plus, you're a unicorn, why not just use your magic or something? "

"Do you really want to know? Do you really want to bucking know?" Blazing asked. "I don't have any magic! That's why I've learned to make a weapon out of almost anything." He explained. He just needed something, even something simple, and he could make a weapon out of it with time.

"Oh pity you. So you can't use magic, so what? And don't get all huffy, not my fault I didn't know. So don't bit my head off for a damn innocent question. Mr. pity party." Gloom then pulled out another knife that was hidden under his stomach, and he tosses it at the other pony. "And here, use this."
