technology Disney's new tactile rendering technology

Many companies works on different mobile and tablet devices which can simulate different types of surfaces. Now comes a piece of technology from the, a little bit unexpected source Disney Research.

They are using electro vibrations in different amounts depending on the friction from the finger to do this.

What do you guys think of this?

Is it cool?

Is it lame?

Will it change anything?

Are you surprised that this comes from Disney?

Is Microsoft's solution idea to tactile rendering better?

What's Microsoft's solution to tactile feedback?

Also, it seems a number of companies are showing their cards on this technology at once. Valve with their Steam Controller...a long while back, there was also a device called the Novint Falcon that you could use like a mouse to play Team Fortress 2; it would resist when you hit a surface, and even give recoil when you fired your gun.
