Does Luna go to sleep during the day?

I don't think they need to sleep as much as other characters, after all Celestia did Luna's shift for her while she was Nightmare Moon. If that was the case looks like Celestia would of been exhausted if she depended on sleep as much as everyone else.

This is my impression of it as well. In "A Canterlot Wedding", when Luna flies in through the shield, she says to Celestia, "Rest, my sister. As always, I will guard the night." The fact that she used the word "rest" rather than "sleep" was, I feel, specifically meant to imply just that... that the Sisters may have to rest if they exert themselves, but don't actually sleep.

While that is a possibility, the use of the word 'rest' instead of 'sleep' could also be because of Luna's manner of speaking, or her vocabulary. According to the MLP wiki and my memory (of the episode), Luna tends to use archaic terms like "hath," "thy," "nay," and "thou," as well as other constructs.

I did a little bit of research on the term 'sleep' ( I looked up an old english translator tongue.png  ), and one of the results showed that the word 'sleep' could equate to 'rest' in old english!

Soooo, when Luna told Celestia to 'rest', it is possible that she meant to tell Celestia to go to sleep.

But, we still don't know how Celestia fulfilled her responsibilities (for night AND day) while Luna was away.

I don't think it necessary to go to Ye Olde Englishe to conclude that "rest" can be synonymous with "sleep"! laugh.png Even in modern English, the two words are often interchangeable. I just think, from a writer's perspective, that the word choice might have been deliberate, but of course, we can't know for certain... unless there is a tweet from one of the writers out there that confirms or denies the rumour.
