As I have expressed several times on this site, I absolutely love the first two movies and consider them among my all time favorites if not my all time favorite period.

Alien 3 is too complicated to fully give an opinion on here, Resurrection is okay entertainment, the AVP movies can go suck a butt, I don't care for Prometheus.

I saw the first movie at a drive in theater way back in the 70's.  As I recall the screen next to the one we were watching had The Amityville Horror on it.  I've not seen the movie since then.  As I recall it was very suspenseful with the music not changing when the alien would appear, though I may be mis remembering.

I saw the 2nd one later on tv a number of times, with different groups, so much so that I burned out on the movie.  I've not seen any of the others, but I did read what said was the script, saying that some scenes may have been changed from the movie version.  Never saw that one either or any others after the 2nd.

I've always had a fascination with Xenomorphs from the Alien movies, even before I ever watched the Alien movies. My brother always had some poster of a Xeno on his wall and when I was a kid and used to play pretend games with my friends I was always the big bad Xenomorph xD

Anyways, on topic I do love the Alien movies, some are better than other. The first 2 were great 3 and resurrection were... eh, I refuse to watch the AVP movies and I watched Prometheus and I utterly despised the movie.

I own the Quadrilogy (odd thing is, there's only a trilogy :P) I find that Alien definitely had the best atmosphere of them all and effectively used the creature to it's fullest potential by not showing it often. Makes for an incredible horror film. However, there's a lot of steam and shaky-cam, which always leaves me disorientated while watching the movie. Aliens is to Alien as TLW is to my JP. While not as high in quality control, that does not mean in the slightest that it skimped on the details and is an equally awesome film in it's own right. I personally prefer Aliens over Alien. Alien3 is a good film, though the creature effects can be lacking (especially the noticeably 2D CGI). The story, when viewed through the special edition, is an incredible emotional roller coaster and the parts without the alien are actually more interesting than the parts with. It's actually a rather grand finale to the franchise what with Ripley sacrificing herself to destroy the queen embryo within her. Everything about the ending is so finite. The music, the shutting down and closing of the prison, which is why I pretend Alien Resurrection does not exist.

Alien is just about the most perfect example of a horror thriller out there. Brilliant cinematography, pacing, and a genuinely threatening creature. The only flaw I can identify is that when Sigourney Weaver strips she doesn't go all the way.

Aliens, on the other hand, doesn't do shit for me. It subscribes to a "more is more" philosophy that for me runs counter to what made the original so good. Also, and I realize this is petty grievance, but using the Gayane Ballet Suite during a stark scene of a ship floating through space? Jeez, Cameron, at least try to be original...

Never watched the others due to loss of interest but apparently I'm not missing much.
