Geek0zoid 1,468 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I'm trying my hardest to get into PC gaming, though when I play a game on there, it doesn't always function right. However, I checked the graphics card on my computer, and it seems like that's what's holding me back. Does anypony know of good graphics cards for a guy that wants to play on PC? Luna the Great of all the Russias 3,224 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 (edited) I have a pretty decent set of funds. I'm not looking for anything top-of-the-line. Just something that works for this sort of thing. Well, there is the GTX 760 which I believe is a good GFX card in terms of price to performance and it should be able to run, for example, BF4 on maxed settings at a pretty high framerate (though recommended specs for BF4 says to be 3GB of VRAM). This card is about $250, but of course the price depends on where you plan to buy it from. There's the GTX 770 for roughly $80-$100 more that will provide significantly more performance but perhaps less worth it in terms of price to performance. So I think either the GTX 760 or 770 will be great choices for you as non ridiculously priced GFX cards. As for AMD GFX cards, I have no idea. long gone 8,929 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I usually see AMD graphics cards being recommended for budget builds, due to their performance for their price. I've personally never used AMD before though, I've always been an Intel kinda guy.
Milk Wave 454 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I have a pretty decent set of funds. I'm not looking for anything top-of-the-line. Just something that works for this sort of thing. I look for the Radeon HD 7770, 7790, 7850 and 7870 honestly, those are good. Also try like an R9 270x too if you want, i'm all for AMD Radeons. Nvidia's i'm not too fond of for now, just because looking up reviews and stuff AMD in the mid-higher range of cards are usually cheaper for a little better performance. If you do go for a Gtx series a 660 ti would do. A 770 also, but meh, still like my Radeons. Also, if you're going for quite nice nice, go for a Radeon HD 7950 which is the same price as a Gtx 760. I looked up the two in fact, the 7950 does quite good and scored a better score vs the 760 for the same price, so yeah. You know me Stephan, so you can contact me for some more stuff. #ComputerGeek4Life A shoutout to Dr-Whooves for making this sweet thing~ Anyway, go ahead and visit my http://mlpforums.com/user/380-sirius-crescent/'>About Me page for my characters :3 Engaged to Steel Crescent as of 5/1/2013
Geek0zoid 1,468 November 24, 2013 Author Share November 24, 2013 Just looked up the pricing of the AMD card. Looks pretty simple and straight forward, though I do know that you actually have to put these things in the motherboard of the computer. I'll probably just take it to Staples or something once I finally get it Signature made by: Rainbow Skywalker My little YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/GeekySteven (Game (Mostly) and Pony Reviews) (Yes, I'm actually active) My Johari Window thingymabob :http://kevan.org/johari?name=StevenEarthPony ASK ME A QUESTION OR TWO!:http://mlpforums.com/topic/85648-ask-steven-anything-you-want-he-loves-answering-your-questions/#entry2228380

A Blithering Div 247 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 (edited) From what I've read, on the nVidia side you want a 760 or higher. On the AMD side, you want the R270 or higher. However, make sure your power supply can handle it. Edit: Also make sure your case will fit the card. A lot of new cards are fairly long and take up two slots: one for the PCIe and another for ventilation. Edit 2: You don't need to reinstall windows. You will however need to uninstall your current graphics drivers and install new ones. Edited November 24, 2013 by A Blithering Div I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?
Demirari 454 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 I recommend the GTX series from EVGA. They are around 150-300$, depending on the card you choose. They should have 2GB of RAM. And they are usually quiet and cool.

Milk Wave 454 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 @, Um... Well for starters, you need a different motherboard, a custom laptop processor, heatsink and cooling, graphics card slot, RAM, and other add ins just for this thing to work. You need to build a desktop honey, laptops like the HP you have aren't customizible. A GTX 760 is still about $260 while a R9 270 is $179. Yeah, you can't upgrade most laptops unless they're already high-end gaming grade, like MSI's GT60/70 series, Asus' Republic of Gamers laptops, Alienware and Clevo/MSI rebrand "boutique" manufacturers like Digital Storm, Malibal, iBuyPower or Origin PC. Once I get this card, I'll pretty much be in the hole in the money department. You're gonna have to wait to really get a good PC then, honestly. It will cost you a lot of money to do things like this, plus the fact that I believe you need to reinstall your operating system if you install a new Graphics card. Since you said your Desktop is slow as dirt, and when I say dirt I say potato in the ground, you really may need to save money to build your own. Trust me, totally worth it. I'm saving up money for Christmas for a $500-550 one and it's doing me well so far. All the parts i've favorited/bookmarked on Newegg so I can see them again, and yeah. Wayzer 1,418 November 24, 2013 Share November 24, 2013 (edited) It also really depends on the rest of your pc specs, no use in installing a gtx 770 if you have a pentium processor for example. So I advice to upgrade your whole system or buy a somewhat cheaper videocard cause you can't get your full potential out of your videocard right now, your cpu will bottleneck it Edited November 24, 2013 by Wayzer107 Aaamazing signature made by the awesome Nectar!
