Let's talk music!

Music is my favorite thing in the world, so I do believe I'll start a music thread!

So let's talk about music. What's your favorite genre? What's an artist you've recently discovered? What music would you like to know more about?

I am currently listening to an EP from an artist known as "Will Post" that I have never heard before. I just discovered it tonight while listening to Captain Podcast. It's actually pretty great, sort of a driving synth-pop EP, and it was available for free too!

My favorite genres are rap, nerdcore, punk, and ska.

Some of my favorite artists from each:

Rap: Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Astronautalis

Nerdcore: MC Frontalot, The Grammar Club, MadHatter, and... well, it's really not fair for me to even choose favorites from this genre since I'm pretty much submerged into the middle of it.

Punk: Bomb The Music Industry!, The Taxpayers, ASOB

Ska: Streetlight Manifesto, Chewing on Tinfoil, Chicken Poodle Soup

Also, as long as I'm talking about music, this seems relevant to post:

Oh, music! *earperks*

Well, you'll be pleased to know that both Bejoty and I are musicians and we plan to not only make Everfree a welcoming place for musicians, but also to plan a rich and fun music track.

About myself, I've played the piano for over 20 years and I'm getting into composing for independent films. My favorite genres are contemporary classical, classic rock, and psychedelic rock. My favorite bands are the Moody Blues, Phish, Jethro Tull, Porcupine Tree, and Pink Floyd. My favorite composer is James Horner. It's nice to meet other Bronies interested in music ;)

Hey, someone else who likes Jethro Tull!

I like a wide variety of music, but my favorite genres are various forms of electronica, rock (particularly classic rock), filk/dementia, and RenFaire songs.

In terms of making music, I'm a dabbler at best. I sing enthusiastically, but not necessarily well.

I fully support any and all music threads! It's going to be tough narrowing down into any sort of logical set though..

I know! I'll just pimp some epic Vancouver artists.

We could have a music booth?

I was thinking (and i could possibly run it, with the help of other ponies) of having a booth dedicated to musician's music (all the music at the booth is prerecorded, so it doesn't conflict with the music provided by the live musicians).

Have a power-point type of thing go on where it plays through the different songs, and each song has its own unique QR code. The QR code would then link to the musician's webpage where they can listen to the song on their smartphone, or follow up on the musician).

I could set it up so that it runs automatically, and would only need to be checked upon every once and a while.

What do you think?

Hmm, if enough people like my idea, i might head up it at the event as well.

If you have specific pony-related music that you like, you can either post it or contact me directly, and I'll work with the artist(s) to have them featured at the convention (booth).

I've had Mother Mother in my music library for months, and for whatever stupid reason haven't gotten around to listening through the albums! This must change, because these songs are epic.

Iknorite!? I went to their show in Stanley Park for a big event in summer (I think it was Vancouver's 125th birthday) and it was SO much fun. Much dancing was done.

That music festival side of the Vancouver 125 was EPIC. Although when I went, I had only heard of Hey Ocean (obviously) and Said the Whale. I've still yet to see Dan Mangan live, which is one of the highest on my list. Of course, now I have a solid handful of Vancouver indie artists that I'm dying to see!
