now before i ask what i wanted to ask, I'm going to give pause,

to which the more sane members will say
"that means you shouldn't ask it if it gives you pause!"

 

so i tried to think of a worse question that would have been acceptable that fans would have been happy to roll with.

 

"which pony would be most likely to be a cereal killer?"

I think most people would just say pinkie,

we'd get a couple of descents, but a conversation would break out.

 

And I could in fact start with that thread, than make the next one and point back at the killer thread and go "see no one minded that one, so this one should been okay."

 

So any ways (Stop reading now if you don't have a sense of humor)

 

 

 

 

which pony would make the best call girl?  See?  For some reason asking which would be the best killer just sounds more acceptable, is it the fact there is fan precedent for the killer theme?

oh and that's the focus of the thread.

Why does the first idea sound less offensive than the second one?

 

Is it he fact killer ponies are a mass in fan fiction?  Or are killers more socially acceptable than good time ponies?  (and yes I totally wussed out).

Before answering your question, I might just point out that in this context 'cereal' is spelt 'serial'. I'm not usually a Grammar Nazi, but your first question basically asks who eats the most cereal for breakfast... which would probably be Applejack.

 

In response to your question, I'd say it's reflection of western society in general. Violence is, by and large, a prominent and accepted part of our history. Since, to some degree, fiction will draw on these historical elements, it is only natural for violence to be accepted within a fictional context.

 

By contrast, sex has always been far more controversial and seen in a more universally negative light. Most major religions that I know of have historically portrayed sex (and the enjoyment thereof) as being morally questionable. Coupled with the fact that sexual acts could easily have led to death in some cases (I.e through giving birth), you end up with a culture which still has remnants of this leftover despite the structure of society itself having undergone sweeping changes.

 

Plus, clop being controversial doesn't help though that doesn't seem to be too much of an issue here.

I see what you did there. Violence has been around for centuries, and it would be more potent if violence was being accepted on a fictional level.
