Sea ponies anyone?

Kind of a random topic to bring up at the moment, but its something I wanted to share.

 

I was listening to some beach/tropical type of music which reminded me about the sea ponies. I know there was a book made about them and I've heard they appeared in the comics, but what if they were actually made canon. It would be an interesting plot element for the writers to do. Do you think the sea ponies should be made canon, and if you do, what do you think would happen or how would they affect the story?

I think sea ponies were canon in the past, just not in this generation. I'm always open for wanting more races introduced in the show, I don't see them affecting the story unless they are important to the story.

to the new school of the mlps!  Maybe also

more of a cannon and such and in truth

you do not see much of em in the well the

fandom like fics/art sadly......

Anyway, I'm starting to think we'll get seaponies or mermares in the show eventually. I just hope they leave that song in G1, though.

I've actually thought about this before too, if they were to do it I'd be all for it, long as they don't make the sea ponies too different from the orginal land/pegasi/unicorn ponies. Aka they still have the same facial and neck structure they just have the bodies of a sea horse. Like from the first generation of Firefly's Big Adventure:

Yes I grew up with the first generation but I do have a request with sea ponies... please don't make them sing when they talk...have them talk like normal...And give them an obvious special power, like being very speedy in the water, can talk to other sea life maybe? Or, and this may be stretching the idea, but like mermaids, have them be able to come on land for a short ammount of time, like they can walk on land for a bit, grow hooves etc, but eventually, like after a day they have to go back to the water or...well they get sick and.. ya

I own the two newest MLP comics, and both of them have sea ponies on the cover. I haven't actually read them yet so I don't know if the seas ponies are in the comic, or if they're just cover art content.

Thing is, if we were going to have Seaponies, I think it would've happened by now with popping up in the rivers, lakes and ponds of Equestria (and don't get technical. The ones from Gen 1 showed up in bodies of water that weren't the sea either).

 

Though to be fair, we haven't been to a beach/sea/ocean yet. Maybe the creative staff is just waiting for the right opportunity.

 

Celestia knows it would be a good opportunity to market bath/pool toys   (though Hasbro can be really stupid)  

 

And while I'm at it...you think they could bring Steven back with them. It would be fairly appropriate XD
