I think the 'Alicorns are gods' theory is unlikely now

From both the show and the comics I believe the more we have learned about the Alicorns the more the 'Alicorns are gods' theory seems wrong.

Even Celestia herself at this point seems far weaker than she seemed at the start of the show.

Well alicorns aren't gods just rulers

Gods are worshipped and usually have religions beliving in them

And my OC is an alicorn but It's not a god that would be over powered. She's a guardian

A guardiian or ruler is better than god in this case

With the exepction of Cadence and Twilight, Celestia and Luna are in fact immortal, but they aren't gods, such as been proven that they can live forever but they aren't immune to attacks or assasination since Celestia was clearly hurt in that brief passed glimpse when she fought her sister Nightmare Moon.

That said I never felt the impression that Celestia and Luna were 'worshiped' ever throughout each season, but merely rulers of Equestria, the highest ranking rulers to be fair, as well as the most powerful alicorns in Equestria. But it is starting to get obvious that both these alicorns aren't as strong as they used to be, that or we've not seen them enough in action to prove their powers. Regardless i never thought they were ever worshiped.

I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^

It really depends on your definition of 'God'. In many mythologies the Gods are little more than upgraded Heroes from prior mythologies. The Celts were big on that, as were others. Heck, the origin of the word 'Hero' in Greek originally meant a demi-god. In that system you couldn't *be* a hero unless you were a least part god.

Looked at in the right way, all the Mane 6 were 'demi-gods' when they had the Elements of Harmony, as using artefacts of ancient power like that was sufficient to be classed as a Greek-style Hero.

Pretty much this: they aren't 'gods'... but there is clearly some kind of supernatural power that sets them above others.

Look at Twilight becoming an Alicorn: they don't just glue some wings on: she 'ascends' to her Alicorn state in some kind of magical realm. I think that the Elements of Harmony are representative of a kind of 'favor from the gods' considering that Twilight, Celestia and Luna have all used them.

Even if you want to bring Cadence in, she is described as 'the Element of Love' and may even possess a physical seventh element of harmony (the crystal heart)... though this is just me speculating now.

Never quite forgotten.
