Like you said, some of the are very "dog-like." For example, I love dogs too - I don't have one only because of their strong pack instincts, they get upset if the pack leader is not home often enough (and of course you get behavioral problems if they think they are the pack leader and not the owner!). To satisfy my desire for a pet I can walk on a leash and who likes water, I would like to get one of these: Here's a good website for them: http://www.a1savannahs.com/about.htm As you can see, it is huge! It the size of a medium dog. The biggest problem with Savannahs that I see though, is the price. But, let's say I'd be happy with just a swimming cat, then you have the Turkish Van. That cat is the ultimate swimming cat. What if you want a cat that is completely docile, the kind of cat a little girl can put in doll clothes and push around in a stroller? Then you have the Ragdoll. These large sweet cats have a reputation for going limp like a ragdoll when picked up. Cats are not for everyone, but, much like MLP, if you do not look deeper and with an open-mind, you might miss out on something great. Whatever you do though, do not get a cat without doing your homework first - I think that really should apply to any pet. Know the pet's needs so you will both be happy. And in my case, the cats wait until midnight when I'm trying to sleep to make all 1000 of them. -_- Oh my, do they have Siamese blood in them? The Siamese are the chattiest of all the breeds and any breed related to them will also talk up a storm. If you want them to sleep when you do, make sure to do plenty of play with them to tire them out. In fact I remember our Black Labrador, that guy would disappear for days just to be found in the middle of Tijuana. Really I swear that dog would actually understood what my dad wanted and than do it. Here's an example of the greatness of dogs. Oh, being Chilean I perfectly remember that video when it came out and always think of it when I need to say something about dog's loyalty. The one they showed on TV was actually longer and showed how the dog pulled the other one from the street completely. Anyways, despite that and despite I find dogs cute and all, I prefer cats. I've never had a dog, only cats. Cats are way cooler. Instead of moving around barking and drooling over everything, they just sit there, and ask you to pet them. Ocassionaly they hunt a bird or something and bring it in, wich is not that cool, but the rest is. It's house dogs that anoy me. Where I live there are lot of stray dogs and I totally love them. They better not decide to euthanize them or I'll freak out. Stray dogs are way too cool, they are nice and playful and gentle and cross the street when the green light is on, they might be a bit dirty, but who the hell cares, they would never harm any human. However house dogs bark all the damn time, specially those tiny ones who feel like they rule the fucking world. There's one in my street who always barks at me and I happily chase it if nobody's watching, and he runs like a chicken. Man dogs are so damn stupid. There's even a fucking dog next door who climbs up to our wall and barks at us when we are in our own yard! MAN WHY THE FUCK DO THEY DO THAT! I WANT TO KILL THAT DAMN DOG (And her name is Dolores... heheheh) Anyways, cats are gentle, peaceful, cool, smart, require little care, aare great companions and most importantly THEY DON'T BARK. If a stranger comes, they will happily go over to them and ask for petting, or hide if the cat doesn't like them, but never BARK! OMG BARKING IS SO DAMN ANOYING! I, personally, like both of them, for I like pretty much all animals. I don't really like house cats that much, I prefer cats to be outside and semi-feral. Dogs are nice as a house pet. My dog is soooo fluffy. My parents brought me to the US when I was 4 years old but I go back there at least once a year. In fact, my parents flew back to Chile last night.. So cool! As for dogs in Chile, everytime I have been there (Los Angeles, Chile) I always see lots of stray packs. It is the weirdest thing - you'll have a pack consisting of things like 1 German Shepherd, 1 Pug, 1 unidentifiable (Kiltro!). I have never felt threatened by any of them. And yes, that's exactly what I mean about stray dogs, they are everywhere, but they are always just hanging around doing nothing. And if you pet them, they let you! About that, a friend of my father who lives in Europe came here a couple of years ago, and he was so surprised to see the dogs on the streets that he though that dogs were to us like cows are to indians. Savannahs are neat but it's not just the price that's a pain, they are bred from Asian Leopard Cats and Servals, so they do not come from any domestic cats (Bengal cats looks much like a Savannah but are completely domestic). If you're look for a cat that you can walk on a leash American Bobtails and Siberians are a good choice as they are large (all cats can get used to being walked if they aren't skittish and you start to walk them from a very young age), they also have very dog-like personalities (nothing as close to the Bombay which is nicknamed the Velcro Cat). If you're looking for a cat that likes water the Turkish Van is known for that (I just noticed you also said that). However, all cats can adjust to water if you bathe them weekly/biweekly from a young age. Also, Ragamuffins are good for docile cats too, they're bred from the Ragdoll and Abyssinian~ Personally though, I would adore a Bombay, Cornish Rex, Siamese (modern) or a Sphynx <333 I could seriously talk about cats all day~ I wanted to be a vet for a long time, but my talent is more with art. Still, I have a passion for animals c: Mostly cats, rats, horses -though I barely know anything about horses- and dolphins~ <33 "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." Lol, I've been to India - the cows are everywhere and they do as they please without anyone bothering them. So yes, it is a valid comparison. Savannahs are neat but it's not just the price that's a pain, they are bred from Asian Leopard Cats and Servals, so they do not come from any domestic cats I thought the formula went African Serval + domestic = Savannah and Asian Leopard Cat + domestic = Bengal. Both of them have wild genes but also domestic genes - that's why they can be kept as house pets. The people from that Savannah website I posted are trying to develop them as an actual domestic breed and not just a wild hybrid. That's ok if you are in a rural environment and you are talking about barn cats that are going to control your rodent population. Otherwise, being outside markedly shortens their lifespans due to all the outside dangers and it can be devastating to the local songbird population. Cats are great at catching mice but they will also kill your pretty singing birds. Even if well fed, cats will kill - they are predators and that's what they do. Oh, and here's a general message for everypony - please do not declaw! You have basically mutilated the cat and now it is even more dangerous because if it is mad, instead of clawing you, it will go directly to biting which can inflict deep puncture wounds and infections. If you already have a declawed cat, I am not judging you - I am just suggesting it is not done in the future as it tends to cause more problems than it solves. Dogs are clingy and needy. yeah, pretty much this for me. i love dogs as well as i do with cats, but i strongly prefer cats to dogs, maybe because i've owned one from a young age almost half my life. cats are a lot more ''me'' than dogs: they're not as demanding, clingy, or active as dogs are. i love interacting with other peoples' dogs when i am able to, but owning one? no, too much work to be worth it. i'd rather have a cat. it's not too hard to take care of one, and they can be pretty damn cute and cuddable when they want to. i find them a lot more fascinating than dogs, what with their independent nature and all. but i have to agree that dogs are much cuter than what cats are. but i still highly prefer cats to dogs.
