i noticed in sister hooves social (I think that's the name, the episode with sweetie bell and rarity)

in the competition sweetie bell and rarity lose.

and it doesn't take anything away from the episode.

but in rarity takes main hatten and flight to the finish it kinda feels like "the win is a for gone conclusion."

just my thoughts.

I don't think it is.  I think it would in some ways be interesting for them to *not* win, if they achieved some kind of moral victory, like re-establishing her relationship with her sister, or reaffirming another pony's faith in generosity.  I liked the fact that they didn't win in Sisterhooves Social, because that emphasized the most important thing that came out of the competition:  the two sisters bonding and having fun together.  Whether they won or lost was irrelevant.

One of the greatest sports films ever, Rocky, had the protagonist *lose* the fight in the end.  But in a way he won, because he earned a sense of respect, as a down and out two bit boxer who went the distance against the champ.

I think it doesn't take away from the episode because, it would show that not every protagonist is not perfect and also that winning is not everything when you learn that you can still learn something even in defeat. You could say that it doesn't matter whether you win or lose what matters is what you learn.

Because then there would be no MLP.

Rarity winning the fashion show was done to show that you can still win at life by being a good person. Having her lose the competition would have meant that the greedy jerk won through deception, which probably would have gone against that whole message, not to mention bum the audience out.

^Pretty much. Dash getting to live the dream, or at least being allowed to get working on that at the end of "Wonderbolt Academy" doesn't take away from the weight of what she did earlier.
