flash? wut iz flash? how do i use flash? where can i find flash?

Flash is a program people use to make animations and games, I think it would work for you, but you need experience with technology, HTML, commands, etc....

Theres a program i use to make games called game maker by yoyo games. Its uses visual functions which is alot easier to use than code, though its powerful enough to create some actually good games. I think it can make an fps, but that would take a long time to make, and would require some code.

try to learn action script and flash proffesional for making a 2d game. if you are planning on making a 3d game i would suggest that you look more at in-depth programming like c++, open gl and such, and maybe the a look at the unity engine or make your own direct x 3d engine in c++ and you have to learn a 3d modeling program like 3dsmax, maya or blender in order to design the game

a project like this is almost impossible to pull of on your own without a team and the knowledge. i would estimate that it would take you just a couple of years just to write the game engine alone

you could also make a source engine mod but that would also require advanced c++, lua and 3d modeling knowledge

I'm going to go along with the general recommendation and say your best bet is going with a flash based template. Although Java does have some things to offer… Edited by 83awsm

I don't wanna sound like a downer, but to be honest, I doubt you'll be able to make that game. Making a game takes a lot time and a lot of coding skills and it's not something that you can learn to do in a day. Ideally, you'd have to take a class about programming or something before you can expect to make a somewhat decent game.

There is NO way you could achieve such an ambitious project without any knowledge of coding, (And the fact that you didn't even know what Flash is suggests that you don't know much about this domain) sorry. Unless, of course you somehow manage to get a team with you to do the coding/graphics etc. while you do the planning etc.

Also, if what you want to do is an fps, DO NOT use Flash. it would incredibly hard to program a 3D first person shooter in Flash, trust me. Java or C++ would probably be better.

edit:I did a small ressearch and I found this: FPS-Creator-Free

I have no idea if it's good or not, I have never used it, but it looks like a more reasonable solution for you. It doesn't seem to recquires any programming skills. It probably won't give you much creative freedom, but it might as well do the job for what you're trying to achieve. I suggest you check it out.

Almost all game development requires knowledge of some kind of coding. Be it java, flash, or c++. Flash is very expensive and likely beyond your price range, but there is a free program called game maker. As simple as that. Well it isnt totally free. It comes in a lite version meaning it doesnt feature everything. You can pay cheap to make it though! 20 dollars for the full version. I used it for a while when i was young. Its a bit complicated at first and you need to figure out what the commands and such do, but it is very good. Its in between coding and just simple drag and drop imagery. It will require some tutorials though.

I agree with the above two posts, game development is hard work, and isn't as simple as just deciding to create a game. It takes years of practice to make anything half decent, and requires you (in most cases) to learn in great detail the workings of one or more computer languages, as well as an understand of the infrastructure and processes which run software programs on computers.

Flash is arguably the best option, it's not as easy as the dedicated game builders, but it will give you a lot more flexibility. You could also try the Unreal Development Kit, which is completely free. It's the builder for the game engine used by Gears of War, Bioshock, Unreal Tournament, Mass Effect and other popular games. Their pricing is very fair, I believe it's something along the lines of "a 10% profit share after you earn $5,000" (not those statistics though), so if you planned on selling the game then this could be useful.

Unity is another game engine, which comes with a development kit. It's fairly easy to use, and can be ported to a lot of devices. Although you have to pay for licenses to publish your games up front, which can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

C++ is a programming language. It is used in a lot of programs and games, and can be pretty complex.

For an FPS, your best bet would be to code your own game engine. Unless you have the money to put out for an already existing engine, you'll need to do it by hand. You could use Doom Legacy, which will give you something to start with. Its also been used with a rather great Sonic fangame called SRB2, so its very flexible, but you'll have to modify it for you own use.

I tried building my own engine once before. It didn't make it far at all, even with friends that knew how to program. It ended up being called "Chaos" early in development, because of how chaotic everything was. I worked mostly on the User Interface, but obviously, the engine didn't make it too far.

If you do start working on this, I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure it would turn out pretty awesome in the end.

Have you had any experience with game coding before? It is very hard to find a free or cheap program that does all the work for you, probably even inpossible. Game development is not an easy task, so i would reccomend doing some research on the programs provided. ;)
