Derpy talking and not offending anyone is possible

If the whole controversy never happened in the first place than it might actually work, but I think the genie has already been let ouf of the bottle. Exactly what explanation would there be in the show that Derpy can't speak when we have already heard her speak in The Last Roundup? Granted in the edited version they did alter the voice and made the eyes less derped but we still heard her speak. I think the controversy may well have been avoided if they gave Derpy her own episode instead of a brief speaking role so they could have fleshed her out a bit more and made it clear that she is not an offensive stereotype. The name while I don't believe is offensive is also problematic because a lot of people think it is an insult, and the voice while I don't think is offensive I don't believe suits Derpy and something like the voice youtube user Balddumborat used for her Derpy videos would have suited Derpy better without people thinking it is a stereotypical "retard" voice.

 

Now that the controversy has happened although Derpy can be salvaged it will be a lot more difficult and far less likely, but I think is something that is well worthwhile. And the best way to do is to have an episode, one where it shows that Derpy is not a stereotype. It could be that Derpy is not retarded or has any disability of any kind but that she is falsely percieved as being retarded because of her walled eyes and clumsy child like nature and there could be some ponies that mean well but still have the wrong idea. These sort of issues are common not only with people with disabilities but even with people who are seen as different who may not even be disabled.The people who keep saying things like "she is just a background pony" are missing the point completely. It is because Derpy has such potential to reach out to so many people and give such a positive message that it is okay to be different that Derpy is bigger than just one background pony and bigger than even the show itself.

 

I have myself have been falsely labeled and called "stupid", "retard" and things like that even though I am not because of my Autism so to me and many others who have been singled out for being different (disabled or not) you people saying that "she is just a background pony" have to at least try to understand how personal this is to us and the people that complained need to actually listen the people they are claiming to speak on behalf of instead of just assuming things.

If she has a verbal role and people don't find her words offensive, then that'll make my day.

 

All the same, I'm satisfied with her making background cameos even though I'm really edging to hear her speak again in another episode, and with her original uncensored voice.
