movies/tv Anyone else think the rating system is bad?

I know some people might get this a lot, but I find the rating system terrible. In England anyway. Most 15 rated films are violent, but barely any of them have nudity or anything like that, i'm not saying have that in every film, but so many movies that contain nudity are 18 rated, when we are supposed to see that, not people being killed. For instance, the old American pies are 15 rated and don't really contain much nudity, as where once we get to beta house they are 18 rated, due to a few pairs of boobs.

The 50 shades of grey movie would always have been an 18 due to whats in the book, but they are making two versions, one that doesn't have loads of scenes, and one that has most of the stuff in the book. I believe that the not so bad version should be a 15, or they should make a rating where if you are under a specific age, say 17 or 18, then you have to be accompanied by someone above that age or a parent.

I'm not saying this cause i wanna see loads of nudity and graphic scenes in movies, i'm just saying it because we typically treat violence in movies as normal, but when there is sex or nudity quite a few people get butt hurt and complain. I doubt that, even with having it at the highest age rating, they would get away with most of the stuff in 50 shades of grey. I'm not saying that we should let little children watch movies with nudity, or even let teens around my age watch it,  but I feel like i'm being treated like a little kid with all the age ratings, I feel that I am mature enough to watch a movie like 50 shades of grey (when it comes out) without being mentally/emotionally scarred.

How do you guys feel about this subject?

The rating system does look like it's been going through a lot of changes over the past few years, I don't really care for the rating system but I do think it does make some mistakes on how it rates movies based on their content.

@@Scootalove, I don't like it because it stops me from watching movies that look good in the cinema. If they give us a decent reason to why movie A is an 18 for having boobs and why movie B is a 15 when someones arm gets blown off then I would be angry, but I would at least have a valid reason.

They won't give us a reason for it, it's more of the lines of they think we won't notice. If this is what other people aren't accepting, then it would stop me from watching movies too.

@@Scootalove, A lot of people don't accept it, but they just have to deal with it. It's unacceptable in my opinion, but there's nothing I can do about it.

Exactly. We might not accept it, but we have to learn that we can't have things the way we want them to be and we just have to accept the fact.

@@Scootalove, I think that even if lots of people got together to try and change the rating system, it still wouldn't be changed. I just wanna watch 50 shades of grey, not for the sex, but for the story.

Hmm, I see. You're more interested in the story than the sex, which is fine.

@@RED20, I haven't really seen swearing in PG films that much, I know that it happens occasionally. As for sex innuendos, by that I guess you mean references to sex, which does happen a lot.

I personally disagree with it, I say that parents should be purely the ones to decide what their children see, and I hate when I see parents decide what children should see purely based on it's rating.

Yeah, it's not common, but you can do it.

Rating system in America is total crap....

One kiss on lips for more than a few seconds = pg13 apparently.... And god forbid a single curse word is found... Parents are WAY too sensitive about what their kids watch.... I grew up watching violent westerns, Arnold swartzaniger films, family guy/ futurama, ext, and a whole lot of porn....... And I'm a perfectly well rounded (albeit introverted) and nice Adult. I'm not a violent person, I never cuss in public...... I'm living prof that what your children watch does not hurt them in the least... So I say screw you rating system.

Yeah, it's not common, but you can do it.

They used the word ass once.... And they got away with it because ass = donkey....

I swear a bit in public, but it's because my friends drive me to shout at them. Iv'e grown up on films like American pie and Total recall and i'm fine. I say do what sparkles said. I just hope that the not so bad version of 50 SOG is a 15. I can watch it by the time it comes out then.
