if a fandom started around another girls toy franchise would you join it?

I would never join it simply because it's a little girls toy franchise fandom. I'd have to enjoy the show, or whatever else was involved with it. Now I would be willing to give it a chance, but that's not to say that I would necessarily like it.

I don't join fandoms to be a part of the fandom. I'm of a fandom because I like the thing it's based on. Usually a video game or a TV show.

On the note of Barbie: I have enjoyed many of the Barbie video games. I wouldn't say I'm part of the fandom though because I like them as games more than the fact that they are Barbie.

Although I don't approve of this whole "Plus-size Barbie" fiasco.

But to answer the question: Yes. If I like something enough to join it's fandom it wouldn't matter it's origins, target audience or what-have-you.

I would say it's doubtful,,,but since a lot of my hobbies started with "eh maybe I'll give it a try" I can't really rule it out completely.  I watched a preview for Littlest Pet shop on the Equestria Girls dvd I bought and it was not my cup o tea.

I wouldn't.... But just to let you know... It's happened... Many older men collect dolls, and there are even forums for them.... It's just dosent get the PR we do...

Doubt I'd ever get into barbies, the dolls I collect Ball Jointed Dolls or BJDs are much more complex, detailed and creativity inspiring. So a barbie would be a downgrade for me...much much cheaper, but yeah lol.    The main English speaking forum Den of Angels is invite only so that's why you don't see much about it.

Eh. There's not much out there. I mean, you have either the ugly barbie dolls, plastic humainoid toys, or My little pony. I don't think there is anything comparable to My little pony. It is mostly the character design. I'm sure most of us aren't interested in gen 3.5- so unless barbie or some other toy got some freaking awesome redesign, I doubt I would become a fan of it.

It depends. If it has a story, then sure if I like it. If it's just there to pander toys to everyone, then no. I spent enough of my childhood hooked on that stuff, I don't need to continue that trend. Then again, we're in the 21st century, it seems like these gender/age barriers on fandoms needs to just die. I mean, when I was a kid, girls playing video games was seen as screwed up, and they were sometimes belittled, but now it's normal.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

For me, I was really only willing to give MLP a chance after I heard the creators also had a hand in Dexter's Laboratory & The Power Puff Girls from my childhood. The fact that the show ended up being awesome I think is a quality of the original creators, and not necessarily my attachment to a franchise normally made for girls.

So I really can't say for sure. I wouldn't be actively searching for a Barbie themed show to attach to in the same way I've done with My Little Pony.

I doubt it.  MLP came about pretty much by accident for me anyhow, it wasn't something I actively wanted to get involved with.  Bear in mind I have no regrets about joining the fandom (if I am even indeed a member, I still feel like an outsider most of the time) and I've met some wonderful folks here.

It would matter not if the targeted demographic for a show was for young girls, or elderly men, etc. For me to join a fandom, the interest I pursue would have to be rather high. Joining for the sake of simply joining a "feminine"fandom would not float well with me as it's just going with the crowd. I join fandoms, as I said, due to heightened interest and desire to mingle with those who also share the interest, not just to be apart of the "next big trend/biggest thing".

I think this show has taught me and a lot of other people to be open minded.  Would I definitely join just for the sake of joining another popular fandom? No, of course not... there would be no point in joining a fandom if I didn't like the show.  But I'd probably give the show a chance if it seemed like something that might appeal to me, and I wouldn't have any problem with being a fan of a show I truly liked regardless of whether it was for a girls toy or not.
