InvaderShy 18 February 10, 2014 #1 Share February 10, 2014 Many of us know Equestria is a magical land (it's said in the beginning), but due gadgets' presence throughtout the series we've been wondering about MLP's rightful epoch. For a good exposing of my theory, I need you to check out on these links: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagicalLand http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MedievalEuropeanFantasy (In this one, click on Western Animation only) According to this link, ponykind is still in its Renaissance time. Now, considering this and the fact we're on 21st century, I can suppose the time they reach to their very own 21st century we'd be already on our 27th or 28th century (2600-2700). In other words, we would be a Type I civilization already, while ponykind would still remain on Type 0 category. If you don't know what that means look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale Now, how did those gadgets appeared in Equestria then? Well, we can say that the same logic of Zero no Tsukaima: Human technology was accidentaly summoned or teleported to Equestria for X, Y or Z reason. So do you agree or not? Scootalove 10,689 February 10, 2014 #2 Share February 10, 2014 Your theory sounds correct. But, I think MLP takes place in the 19th century just how I see it. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Nature's Spell 526 February 11, 2014 #3 Share February 11, 2014 (edited) Like most things with the show the writers keep it very vague. They show certain technology and don't show others. I'm not sure you can equate it with a specific human time. UserNotFound 964 February 11, 2014 #4 Share February 11, 2014 I think it would be an alternate dimension with a different concept to time than we have... After all Manehattan has huge skyscrapers... So they can't be too non advanced... So yeah... Different concept of time .
Castle Bleck 19,387 February 11, 2014 #5 Share February 11, 2014 (edited) Probably same time as here, just different development. Edited February 11, 2014 by Anti-Villain By @Emerald Heart.↑
Jangocoolguy 433 February 11, 2014 #6 Share February 11, 2014 Or we could not think too much of it and just go with it Reveal hidden contents Please repeat to yourself "It's just a show (for little girls), I should really just relax!" "It's like I found a piece of myself I didn't even know was missing!" How do you think WE feel?!
True Rarity 1,240 February 11, 2014 #7 Share February 11, 2014 Well, seeing as how they have farms, and rather modern clothing, and CAMERAS, I think we're a bit ahead of Renaissance. We still have vinyl records instead of CDs, though, so they might be lagging behind a bit. My deviantART
Kitsunin 41 February 11, 2014 #8 Share February 11, 2014 (edited) Personally, I think they have mid-late 20th century level technology, but for their society technology is just less important, so only prevalent in some places like Manehattan. In other places magic is preferred over technology, since both can be used to accomplish the same things, and magic has a more natural feel. The impression I've gotten is that Equestria has whatever technology it is necessary to have, but not more. I think that this is evidenced by the way it tends to show up based on convenience relative to the plot of the given episode, and can vary from old-timey to fully contemporary, to even futuristic.
